Fantastic experience: Shadi , Was easy to work with extremely helpful , The best experience renting anything !!!

Negative experience: Very incompetent team, they made promises that they couldn't keep about compensation for poor maintenance, and once I asked about it, they essentially blamed me, even though they were very unclear about everything. Additionally, my building has two elevators, and only one worked at any given time for the past seven months during SG Real Estate's management of my complex; however, within a week of management changing to a more competent team, we now have two running elevators. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!!

Fantastic experience: I rented an office with the assistance of Shadi. She is a fantastic realtor and she has been very helpful from the moment we met. She assisted to get the rate that I am comfortable with and considered my requests along the way. I highly recommend this real estate agency.

Negative experience: SG is run with a level of disorganization that makes even basic requests exhausting. From accounting to maintenance, nothing functions the way it should. Asking for help sends you in circles, getting something fixed turns into a loop of excuses, and trying to modify a payment feels like shouting into the void. The message is clear: it’s about them, not the renter. Your time doesn’t matter, your concerns don’t matter, and accountability is nowhere to be found. If you’re prepared for frustration, delays, and being treated like an inconvenience rather than a paying tenant, this is the place. If you value your sanity, your money, and being treated with basic respect, stay far away.

Negative experience: I experienced difficulty making a payment for my daughter due to a recent personal situation. I contacted the accounting office multiple times seeking assistance or a temporary payment extension, but I did not receive clear guidance or meaningful support. There was no fee waiver provided overall, except for a one-time 50% waiver, and no payment extension or flexibility was offered beyond that. Despite these challenges, I ultimately completed the payment on my own. I hope the accounting team improves communication, clarity, and support for families who are facing temporary financial or personal difficulties.

Fantastic experience: SG has been awesome to work with! CJ specifically has been so helpful in getting us settled in our new home. The process was easy and the communication has been great. Really good concessions as well deals for rent. Over all great experience.

Fantastic experience: kind, responsive and they accept larger dogs. They are open 24 hours for emergencies or if you have a question needing to be answered and are in a different time zone.

Fantastic experience: SG real Estate became the property managers of the units we have been renting. As part of the transition and for lease renewal, worked with one of their staff Shadi. She dealt with the transition very professionally, was very responsive and understood the needs of both sides and helped reach a mutually acceptable solution. appreciate their help.

Fantastic experience: CJ the property manager is amazing and very professional, I had a issue with my online portal account and CJ was able to fix the issue in just a few minutes, and also when I moved in my new apartment, there was an issue with the wall heater, it wasn't turning on, and I was very cold in my apartment, so I contacted CJ the next morning, and in just 15 minutes there was a technician sent to my apartment to fix my wall heater, and the Technician Tony, he was very friendly and professional and knew exactly what was causing the issue with my wall heater, and he ordered parts to have it fixed. I am amazed on how the exceptional customer service CJ and Tony the technician provides to their customers, if anyone who are looking for a nice place to live, with wonderful caring property managers, SG Real Estate located at 2105 Martin Luther King Way Berkeley, CA 94604, is the place to look, you won't regret it. I am a very happy customer and plan on living at my location for quite some time, and that's why I rate this company five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Fantastic experience: A couple of days ago our bathtub and kitchen sink stopped draining.. we left a message and promptly got a email from Ann, the assistant property Mgr. She coordinated with Brenda the Property Mgr and sent out Jorge. Jorge is a jack of all trades that SG relies on. The problem was located quickly, a broken pipe.Jorge got it fixed within a hour and everything was flowing again,,,,yay!” Thanks to Ann, Brenda, and Jorge the problem was resolved quickly and thoroughly….your team rocks…thank you. Fantastic experience: Colter is very friendly and helpful as well as the phone support staff. My experience has been good. Very nice to pay rent online or send payment directly to the office. I am new tenant for only a few months but so far the SG real estate staff has been good to me. The unit that I am renting was renovated with up to date kitchen counter tops, wooden floors, and modern bathroom sink with clean bathroom tiles. Would recommend to anybody in need of an affordable home in Oakland.

Fantastic experience: We have been working with SG Real Estate for a little over a year now and they have been a great company to work with to provide fire and life safety services. Alan M. has been my main contact and he is always easy to get a hold of and coordinate the necessary inspections needed at their properties. He definitely cares about the services being completed on time and the safety of his buildings he manages. I wish all managers were as responsive and helpful as he is.

Fantastic experience: We have rented office space through SG Real Estate for several years and have found them to be very professional and fair. In particular, Shadi has always provided a high level of customer service. She has been attentive to our concerns and quick and efficient in response to our requests.

Fantastic experience: Amazing Company and Amazing Experience, I am a International Student, Jessica and Alice at SG Real Estate, went over and beyond any other company to make sure that all my needs are accommodated and i don't have trouble. Cannot thank them enough.

Negative experience: SG does not respond to emails in a timely manner. They do not resolve emergencies in a timely manner. Major issue that were present BEFORE moving in take WEEKS to be fixed. Perhaps months, because they are STILL not fixed.

Negative experience: I wish i could give 0 stars. They don’t even deserve 1. Horrible customer service, nobody is ever available to take calls and when they do, they never give any helpful information. Do not work with SG. They take ridiculously long time to fix issues and conduct maintenance.

Negative experience: 7/1/25 Contacted David with SG Real Estate asked to view an apartment he had listed onTrulia, Apartment listed as a two bedroom one bath, Unit 28 for $2,079.00 per ad, I explained to him that it would be a trust paying the lease in full for one year. He said that he talked to the owner and the owner was in agreement with this. I did explain to him the Maximum budget Was $2000 a month, but I told him the executor is approving the extra $79. We drive an hour to view the apartment, when we get there the price increased $223!! This property manager David is a shyster and has no problem lying and wasting your time. He has no regard for your time, we have a sick parent we're managing right now, it's not easy to get out and look at apartments and then to top it off have somebody lie and waste your time and gas like this! He'll try and say it was a miscommunication but I have the text message that clearly states "we look forward to meeting with you to view apartment number 28 which is listed for $2,079.00", this was his opportunity to clarify if this was not the case and he did not! We will also be filing a complaint with Trulia And contacting the owner of the building. This was just wrong on every level! Shame on you David!!! Update: we were later contacted by David's supervisor, Jessica. She apologized on behalf of David. I told her we were still interested in renting the apartment and that we would be able to pay for a whole year in advance and that David had talked to the owner and the owner already approved it. Jessica later tells us that this is not the case, that the credit still has to be 611 and their credit was only 580 hence why we were willing to pay for the whole year in advance, it was just a one year term that was needed. Very bad business! Jessica also offered to pay for my gas and my time, that was never followed up on either.

Fantastic experience: So last week , I viewed 4 amazing properties, as a mom of a special needs Child I needed the perfect fit , voluntary agent was amazing , he took time to show me everything and answer my question, as well as seek answers to the random ones I ask ;) … when they had leased my preferred unit prior to my ability to apply , I was numbed but the interactions were amazing so no hard feelings … Than today I was feeling hopeless , still seeking my forever home , and he called , followed up with 4 more amazing listings 3 times to view if I was still in need:) we applied tonight and regardless of the outcome thank you so much for such an amazing experience… my mom heart was so happy and full when working with this team : hopefully we come home soon !!! Wonderful experience will continue to recommend:) Thank you so much sg :) my little was in love /) and so am I …

Negative experience: SG doesn’t care about its tenants, we have had an inoperable elevator for months now at the Overture apartments. Do not rent from them.

Negative experience: How to give no stars? SG is short for Slumlord. 1812 Overture has spent more of the year with a non functional elevator than a working one. Black widows in stairwells, filthy carpets, broken washers and dryers, overflowing trash, repair requests that get cancelled, you name it. SG will give you a song and dance about how great they are but not follow through. Do not rent from them.

Positive experience: SG made positive moves with their maintenance reporting system. They look at your request and will contact you within a business day. I appreciate the positive changes they've made and they are becoming a good property manager in the Bay Area.

Fantastic experience: Our new community manager, Alexus, has made a great effort to make our venue as comfortable as possible, quickly addressing the issues we encountered when moving to the building. She is always smiling and helpful, and she fulfils her role as community manager very well.

Negative experience: I do not recommend renting from SG. They knowingly rent units in at least one building (3416 Piedmont) that is not habitable. They do not fix habitability issues (water intrusion), even when you kindly report the issue for 2+ years.

Fantastic experience: SG Real Estate took ownership of a property I used to live at. The previous owners dodged us for years about returning a several-thousand dollar deposit. The guys at SG, particularly Jessica Vernaglia helped us recover the deposit, even though it wasn't legally their problem (I was preparing to sue the old owners in small-claims court, and was not looking forward to the uncertainty re: whether they even had the assets to pay us off). It's rare to see people at large organizations operating at scale actually care and try to help out other people, so this stuck out to me.

Fantastic experience: When S.G. Real Estate began managing the community that I live in, I wasn't sure what to expect. My experience can be summed up in the following two areas: 1) Atmosphere: SG creates a sense of home in a community (apartment building) setting through a well maintained property, with good improvements to safety and shared community facilities upgrades through various projects. 2) Communication: Texts, emails, and postings around the facility about a variety of issues are addressed speedily. Enforcement of community rules are also swift and tactfully done. Moreover, when repairs are ongoing, SG provides the relevant information needed up front to keep the community members (renters) up to date. And these two areas lead to all other areas of property management (of which I know nothing about) being done well in my humble opinion. It's been a few years now and I must say that SG Real Estate "be putting all others to shame!" as the old saying goes. While no property management group is perfect, perfection in this life isn't about mistake-free actions and words, it's about being complete in what we know and do... ...and SG Real Estate appears to be the complete package in property management excellence.

Fantastic experience: The Piedmont one apartments and amenities are fabulous ! Close to great shops and culture! Jenn gave me a tour and was super professional, friendly and knowledgeable! She helped me with all my questions, no problem. Jenn is also the point person on throwing community events and, as a recreation professional, I hope to collaborate soon. The community room space is awesome and has great potential for some great events for the tenants!

Fantastic experience: Update: I was able to get a status update regarding my garbage bin situation, so changing this review. While it did take a bit of a wait to learn what was going on, their representative Jessica followed up with a detailed email and then a phone call the next morning (sadly the delays are coming from Waste Management). Super appreciate them for addressing my concerns and their understanding of my situation. Lastly, wanted to shoutout Ryan for making the move in process smooth and easy, as well as answering my questions!

Fantastic experience: My son rented an affordably priced single room in 2731 Durant beginning in July 2024 after viewing the property from the SG Properties website (we live in San Diego). He started a summer course at UC Berkeley so moved a bit earlier than most students. The house filled up with diverse, responsible, and courteous tenants who use the shared kitchen and bathrooms respectfully. My son's room, while small, is well maintained with maintenance responding very quickly to minor requests. The walls are thin, but the residents are mostly quiet students. The BEST pro about this location is the 3-minute walk to campus and the closeness to drug stores, restaurants and other amenities. It is also next to some robust fraternity/sorority houses, but my son says it's part of the college experience. :) The SG website itself is very user friendly which is super helpful. Also, the owners of this property are new and committed to transforming this home into a family like setting - they are succeeding!

Fantastic experience: We toured a few buildings (all of them beautiful with nice amenity). The Leasing person was so accommodating that she met us at two buildings and walked us to the 3rd, because my son mentioned he wanted to live at a building where he could meet friends. We settled on The Kittredge and it is top of the line. Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful! There we met Trisha Ann Jessica and later Jake the Community Manager and they were wonderful. I know my son will be well taken care of and safe under their care. Thank you SG Team. The SG Real Estate group is a great group of people lead by CEO David. Managers work hard and put the people first. The Kittredge is lead by their team and is top class service, design, roof deck and study areas.

Fantastic experience: I recently was seeking a rental in Berkeley. I found a lot of rental agencies and agents there who communicated poorly. 2 agents at SG were the exact opposite. They were a pleasure to work with! Ryan and Alyce were both extremely responsive by text and email, and very clear and professional in person as well. I highly recommend you seek out Ryan specifically for SG, as another 2 with that agency did not respond to me at all. Alyce manages the Rumi at King bldg, which is a lovely, clean and safe environment. Good luck Ryan and Alyce!

Fantastic experience: After not receiving a housing offer from school, I found a calrental listing for the Den Apartments. I contacted Brandon the listing agent (on a Sunday), got a quick response and clear instructions on how to move forward. And within 24hours I filled out an application, signed the lease, paid the deposit and now my housing problems are over! The location is ideal and they are going to match me a roommate just like the dorms. I haven’t seen the place physically yet but so far the management service is top notch. Negative experience: Initially happy; not so much now. Waiting for a gate key over two months; they couldn’t care less. Received notice giving me 72 hours to move something out of my garage space-I’m on vacation this week. Expecting to come home to an empty garage. Is this any way to treat a new tenant?

Fantastic experience: Big thank you to Enrique and Jesse! I had come back to my apartment after a week long trip and found that I was unable to enter my apartment. I was worried that I would be unable to get in contact with the management in time but I called the 24 hour hotline and I was immediately put in contact with Enrique and Jesse who promptly helped me out by drilling through the key hole so I could access the apartment and then replacing the lock within a few hours. Enrique was constantly giving updates throughout the entire ordeal and he was a lifesaver.

Fantastic experience: I am so glad that I met Ryan Vo as my realtor. Me and my friends are from Indonesia, it was so hard to connect and sure about the accommodation, but Ryan helped me through the journey, from the Video Calls, Gmeet, even though he wasn’t really familiar with the system (whatsapp) but he managed to installed whatsapp and made video calls several times to walk us through the accommodation. He is such a blessing. The peak was when we found difficulties when we tried to do the payment, and couldn’t enter the unit. Ryan helped us with a top notch communication and trusted us. Fantastic experience: I was looking for a new place to live under bummer circumstances and had resigned myself to having to settle. Then I saw the listing where I recently moved, and I was (am) amazed. The unit is brand new and while they could have made generic and boring (cheap) design decisions, this team went way beyond. There are so many details that speak to a team that cares about creating a quality living experience. Everything from the bathroom fixtures to the kitchen backsplash, amazing amounts of storage, big windows and ac! Speaks volumes about the experience this company wants its tenants to have. I truly feel like this is more of a home than just an apartment. Everyone was friendly, welcoming and helpful during my application and move in process. The ceo even reached out to welcome me to the community! Also my building is full of really great people who aren’t just living in boxes next to each other - people say hello and chat. It is a great feeling to know I’ve moved into such a friendly, community oriented building.

Fantastic experience: Appreciate the responsive staff and event spaces. Have really enjoyed hosting family friendly events there. I've live here for over a year and I'm so happy I moved. Grad school has been much more enjoyable this year as a result. If there were one issue, we are a bit close to Amtrak and the train can be loud, but the event space, modern appliances, and easy access to highway make up for it.

Fantastic experience: I would like to compliment the Telegraph Commons team on their exceptional work with expedited processing of an application and move-in for our son. Trish Ann was flexible to accommodate with the most convenient time (and our rescheduling) for a tour. Since we, parents, were on another coast, after touring with our son, she informed us about what was done and what would be the next step. Jessica worked during evening hours and over the weekend to speed up the application process to accommodate the move-in on the weekend instead of the day of classes we asked for. She was extremely responsive and stayed on top of every step. Gabriela prepared the room on short notice and handed over the keys on the weekend. This team did an amazing job! The way onboarding was done tells a lot about how this place is run.

Negative experience: SG Real Estate is negligent when it comes to repairs. I have been unable to access the inside of my mailbox for over 2 months now and no one has come to fix it, despite repeated requests for maintenance. This is on top of the fact that they had me move into this unit with broken appliances, which they also didn't end up fixing for over a month. The folks at SG Real Estate should be ashamed of themselves.

Negative experience: SG Real Estate is the worst leasing company I have seen in years. The people working there simply don't do anything to help tenants and take the landlord money without taking care of the building. They don't respect codes nor permits. I hope for them they don't get an inspection on the way they manage the units...

Negative experience: As a tenant, I’ve had issues with this company failing to fix things in a timely or thorough manner. We’ve had issues with moving in, several leaks which were addressed timely but not thoroughly (the same leaks had to happen multiple times before they sent professionals to address them) and we’ve dealt with a broken refrigerator for close to a month with no updates or responses from the maintenance team. Francisco, one of the techs, is super helpful and is always very communicative; however, I’m having a very hard time with the management and their unresponsive agents.

Negative experience: I moved into an SG-managed unit in January of 2022. In that time, I've found out that my and my neighbor's heaters were installed without permits, no one has a CO monitor despite SG leases stating that monitors are installed in our units, and my downstairs neighbor has had water leaking into his apartment every time it rains for the last five years. It's only getting fixed because he requested a city inspection. He also had a person from SG show up and say they needed to come into his unit to take photos for "insurance purposes". My power went out last night and the only thing the person who answers the emergency maintenance line did was put in a work order. Original review June 2022: I moved into an SG-managed unit in January of this year. But first, IF YOU ARE A TENANT IN BERKELEY AND SG HAS NOT COMPLETED A LEGALLY REQUIRED MAINTENANCE REQUEST, submit an inspection request to the city (Google "Tenant Request for Housing Inspection" + City of Berkeley) Here are some cool things that have happened since I moved in: -I was given the same keys that were used for the open house -I was not given the code that opens the gate to my building -the laundry room was filthy upon move-in, and Jessica, who sent me a note asking why I rated my move-in low, said that she couldn't do anything about it because the owner does his own building maintenance. The owner of the building is the same owner of SG. -my deadbolt was not up to code (it didn't close). It was only fixed after I submitted an inspection request with the city 38 days after my initial request. It's now loose - but SG backdated the "repair completed" date to 3 days after I submitted the request. That's how they have "most repairs are completed within three days" in their responses. -I had an ant infestation when I moved in. My request to have that fixed was DELETED from the maintenance request system. -my oven is not up to code - it needs to be plugged into an extension cord to turn on. I expect I will also have to submit an inspection request with the city before this gets fixed (same for my now-loose doorknob). -I live in a 6-unit building. There are tenants in my building who leave the building gate open for hours and leave garbage all over the laundry room. SG has not bothered to do anything about this despite my and other tenants' requests for action. Based on my interaction with the property management team, I would avoid renting from SG again.

Fantastic experience: CJ was extremely helpful and kind in the onboarding process! And Alan M. went out of his way to help me when I accidentally locked myself out of my apartment. I wasn’t able to get a hold of one of the original maintenance people I had opened a request with, and was worried about not being able to get into my home. But Alan made sure to accommodate and ensure I was able to get back into my apartment safely. Very much appreciated! We all know how stressful, bad days happen and they really supported me. Felt like a good community!

Fantastic experience: I have nothing but wonderful things to say about SG Real Estate. My application and approval process was very smooth. I want to specifically address two individuals that helped me make my decision to choose the Beacon Hill Apartments: Ms Carmen and Ms Elayshia. Ms Carmen was so personable and good at talking to me about the unit. She readily available to show me the unit right away. When I met her and saw how meticulous she was with the property and how well she knew the tenants, I felt like I had found a safe and warm place to call home. Ms Carmen explained that tenants tend to stay long-term and that sealed the deal for me! The property was clean and well cared for. Elayshia worked hard for me. There was a little hiccup in the beginning with my application, and she helped me through it. She returned my emails, calls, and texts quickly (even outside of business hours). She is very dedicated to SG Real Estate and you can tell she has an excellent work ethic and values her place of business. I forgot to mention that Elayshia was also very personable and kind. All around, a great experience. I was set on another property somewhere else and these two individuals definitely helped change my mind very quickly! Keep these two around. They are outstanding!

Fantastic experience: I recently signed a lease with SG Real Estate in Berkeley and cannot say enough about the experience. Moji and Shadi was Helpful and friendly. Moji and Shadi helped me organized all the require documents to present it to the landlord. And the whole procedure of transfer lease went very smoothly. In addition to the wonderful service we received from Moji and Shadi. I really like the location it is very closed to the campus, a lot of foot traffic. We would highly recommend SG Real Estate and Moji and Shadi.

Fantastic experience: SG Real Estate took over the apartment building that I live in about a year ago and Cesar Montes' hard work in keeping our community safe, and his community rules enforcement has been consistently good. Oftentimes it's easy either to forget or never understand the difficult work it takes to manage a property. His actions have been quick and his communications via text and email both firm and sensitive. Cesar's care for our community is evident in all he does. With just under a year as our management group, the change has definitely been one for the better. While no property management group is perfect, SG Real Estate is perfectly capable of making any living community a place you can call home.

Fantastic experience: Super responsive company with great turnaround times and actual people responding to building issues! Our callbox had gone out for some weird reason and within a few hours, Cesar was able to address the issue and followed up to confirm it was back to functioning smoothly.
