Fantastic experience: The staff at Maclay Real Estate are responsive to communications via all platforms (app, email, phone- it’s great!), they escalate concerns as appropriate (rarely needed). I would and have recommended Maclay to friends and family. We’re renting a house from them. A friend from AZ did the walk through for Us with a rep. from the office since we lived in MN at the time. So far, so good! We’re loving the neighborhood, neighbors are wonderful and agency has been helpful with any questions we’ve had. We’ve had a couple repairs to the washer and the kitchen disposal. The repair company we work with is great to work around our work schedules. And they and thorough and always curious. I would recommend.

Positive experience: as of 1/27/2026 I cannot leave a review that is worth anything as I have no experience with Maclay and as my previous property manager retired suddenly without notice to me as a renter and sold her company to this new one without simply informing me as a tenant beforehand and Maclay has been sending me auto emails and things like that so it came as a complete surprise for a condo I have been renting for 8 years.

Fantastic experience: Appreciate this management company. Everyone is professional yet down to earth and understanding, from the person you speak with initially to the person that comes to the house to evaluate the problem. Negative experience: I rented a house from MacLay for 3 years. Never missed a payment or caused damage to the rented house. But when I moved out, they charged me over 1,5K for "repairs" and missing items that I had no idea existed. I’m shocked… 1. Baseboards were damaged/chewed when I moved in! 2. Carpets were cleaned and shampooed. I have provided the paid i full receipt. But they charge me $225 for "cleaning" the carpet. 3. There were no TV mounts; I used my own. As well as I have no idea about bistro lights, they changed my $200 for. Never took anything from that house….that is absurd!! Wishing them the best of luck! Never rent from this place. Save yourself time and money!

Negative experience: It is a shame there is not a zero star option for Maclay Real Estate, they have went below my lowest expectations when it comes to renting an apartment. We lived out of state and had to rent sight-unseen but we signed a contract for a nice, 2 bedroom unit in a community in Scottsdale. Upon arrival, 08/18/2025, we immediately smelled heavy, stale cigarette smoke throughout the unit, even though smoking is not allowed, per the contract. We contacted the real estate company, Janelle specifically, and she agreed to come and check out the offending odor. While waiting for Janelle to arrive, we decided to complete the property walk inspection and noticed nasty stains in the cupboards, hand prints on the walls, non-functional outlets, the coaxial cable plate broken and no cable present behind the plate, a non-functional oven and hood, stained drapes that REEK of cigarette smoke, and lights left on in the living room that have no way of being turned off, per the repair person they sent out (Shout out to Austin, he has been our only positive experience with Maclay Real Estate). Janelle arrived and agreed there is an odor and will have an ozone treatment done on our unit, offering two days prorated from a future months rent, since the treatment takes 2 days and the unit must be free or people, pets, and plants. As the day goes on and the issues pile up, including not knowing if the unit has an assigned parking space which it was listed as having in the realtor.com listing, we keep getting the run around that they have to reach the homeowner to see about covering an additional day since we will be staying at a hotel for 3 days while repairs and cleaning are completed. We eventually asked to speak to Janelle's superior and we were connected with a person named Brad. Brad could do nothing for us, not even guarantee an additional day of prorated rent for the unit now having no drapes, as Austin was taking them to be cleaned. Brad offered nothing but excuses and eventually hung up on us while leaving myself, my wife, and our cat not knowing when the unit would be livable or when we could complete our move and unpacking, of which my wife will lose PTO now staying in a hotel instead of putting together our apartment. Brad said this is his business but I have never seen someone duck accountability in such a quick and cowardly manner in my life. So, day one of moving in we have no cable Internet and no coaxial, which Cox will install at our expense, no drapes, lights that remain on all night which illuminate our unit with our belongings inside, no promise or written agreement to cover hotel costs or rent we are losing while staying at a hotel, so they can clean and repair a unit which has been empty for months. Maclay Real Estate had months to make this place ready but instead left us with a place that smells like an ashtray, has no window coverings, is dirty, and has numerous electrical and lighting issues. This has been the worst experience I have ever had with any business and they have had nothing but excuses to offer, choosing to hang up on us instead of making right their issues and shortcomings with this unit. 0/10 business

Negative experience: I rented from Brad and Naomi for 4 years,Gary the home owner was a very sweet man always responding to my needs when it came to being his renter.. the last year I was renting I gained a stalker decided as a family member to my dead husband. He moved to Arizona and started dating Naomi and pretending to be my dead husband.. I was unaware of this and Naomi and Kendall my nephew put hidden cameras in my house and Brad approved it.. I was being secretly recorded Mr and my son who.was 13.. Kendall and Naomi was recording 24/7 it went on for months and I was not aware .. my Son was to afraid to tell me so.he always stayed in his room. There were cameras on my shower both bathrooms and there was sexual abuse going on behind my back withy minor son. I became aware of this when my community around me started telling me things were not right. After I found the camera on my drain master bath i Knew there was a private feed that played on a secret website.. Naomi took a bribe from Kendall to stay quiet and this played on for months until I was evicted by Naomi. Me and my son suffered major pain both physical and emotional.. u am. me and my son will suffer for life and I highly recommend you never rent from Naomi... Thank you for listening

Negative experience: I leased a house from Maclay Real Estate in South Scottsdale so I could care give for my 89 yo mother w/Alzheimer’s and special needs brother. For 2 years I paid the lease timely but had trouble getting any of the problems with the home fixed. It took 2 years for garbage disposal to be replaced and was only done 1 week before move out. That is just 1 example of many. When my mother passed away on March 7th of this year I decided to move out at the completion of the lease. Velesha was actually the only positive thing about Maclay. I am born and raised in the valley and owned restaurants for 45 years. When it came time for my deposit to be returned that is when Brad and his company felt the need to hold the deposit hostage. After reading reviews on Yelp I quickly saw that was the normal thing for Maclay to do. Do not sign a lease with this company prior to reading reviews or the same will happen to you. They do this with owners whose property they manage and people they lease to. Check for yourself prior to doing business with them if you’re smart.

Positive experience: I've been very happy with Mackay real estate, thier very quick to fix issues with their properties and have been understanding about life issues and problems that may arise in one's life, I have been extra happy with Melissa my main realtor, she has gone above and beyond, the only thing I feel that could improve is their online payments, I feel it would be a great way to pay your rent if you didn't have to pay-to pay your rent. Outside of that I would recommend Maclay for all your rental or home buying needs.

Negative experience: If I could have given them negative stars I would have. This company and all of its staff are incompetent. They were rude when asked to look into maintenance issues. They lied saying that they investigated said issues (not knowing we had cameras). Failed to do the move in walk through because they had more pressing things to do (like a weekend at the lake on their boat. Thanks to Jennifer MacLay's FB for that info). Sending repetitive emails/texts because they didn't communicate with each other or their staff. Now that we have moved out (lease was up, after being tenants for 10+ years), they are refusing to refund our deposits. AND they are Charging us an additional $413.77 for things that were preexisting that the landlord never bothered to do/fix. We are being charged for painting of walls that were damaged from a leak in the attic before we moved in, that were repaired, but never painted. We are being charged for the installation of light bulbs (that were left provided), blinds that we purchased and light fixtures that we purchased, offered to leave, but were refused to be reimbursed for. All were noted on the move in checklist that we had to submit on our own because they failed to be present at the move in walk through. There's much more that I could mention, but this is the what was listed. Jennifer and Bradley MacLay are bullies not to be trusted. The landlord is an elderly woman in her mid 80's being exploited! Beware!

Negative experience: Do not use this firm for rental management! The do not monitor their contractors that are used to service your property to see if they are doing the jobs properly. You never receive follow up emails with receipts from contractors with the work performed or who was assigned to the job. If you don’t choose to have contractors that you trust placed onto your account as preferred vendors they will use their contractors who will price gouge you as much as 10 times the actual cost of the repair. You have to constantly follow up with their managers to see if jobs were done, or if they are doing their semi-annual property inspection. If you disagree or our unhappy with the work being done on your property it becomes very difficult to have your management team getting their co tractors to correct it. Poor communication, poor execution, and constant turnover with employees makes this firm at best a very poor rental management company! Stay Away …

Negative experience: Horrible management company. After the final inspection and everything we talked about with the charges I was aware of. They had there own private inspection after and made up there own bill to charge me more items that were discussed. The air filter company that was suppose to change out my air filter once a month would came about every 3-4 months.

Negative experience: Jen MacClay is the rudest, most unprofessional realtor I have ever met. She has an attitude if you don't purchase a house quickly or back out of a house. She simply wants a commission and rarely does she give much of an input to help find the perfect home. She treated others I know poorly after going through a home she said she had better things to do with her day than stand around while we reviewed the houses pros and cons. She dresses very strangely as well. Her professionalism is also something to question. She will blame the client at all expenses if she doesn't get her way and if the client doesn't decide on a house to buy. She only cares about making her commission instead of helping a client make the biggest decision of their life. She also seems to dislike what she does - there is no passion in real estate and that is obvious. I would not recommend using Jen MacClay - She also lives in Chandler so unless you live in Chandler she is not quick to adjust her plans to get you in the door to see a home. It is all about her schedule and vacations and nothing is urgent for her. Hopefully I save someone from going through the awful experience I had with her and others I know have had with her.

Fantastic experience: Maclay Real Estate recently took over management at my property and I must say I noticed the difference right away. They very good customer service open communication. I put in an maintenance ticket for my bathroom sink and someone was out the very next day to fix the problem. I would recommend Maclay Real Estate to my family and friends.

Negative experience: In my experience, Maclay does not meet their commitments and generally do not care about the property they manage or the tenants they work with. I’ve rented in Arizona for almost a decade now. No issues with landlords etc. until I had to work with Maclay. The people I worked with were unprofessional, from Samantha Huffman giving us keys before checking if the property was in livable condition, or turning off the home’s alarms. The maintenance employee David, once told me “you can’t have everything you want fixed” while fixing a flooded kitchen sink and garbage disposal. Valesha Burnett lied multiple times to me about conversations I was able to confirm were untrue with the landlord. I don’t want to get too into her attitude, but it should be mentioned, manners/customer service is not their strength. If you must work with Maclay, I recommend developing a relationship with the landlord so you can minimize the need to rely on Maclay. Thank you again to my previous landlord that always helped to do Maclay’s job when they were MIA. It was a good home and a wonderful neighborhood!

Negative experience: I have had an awful experience with MacLay since the day I moved in. Velesha Burnett is a horrible property manager and canceled the cleaners because the house “looked clean” yet there were used coffee pods in the drawers, the white shower floor was black, etc. She then made it seem like she was doing me a favor by fixing her mistake and having cleaners come. Velesha tried to pass a maintenance charge to me the tenant and then lied and said I was told ahead of time, which of course I wasn’t. I asked her for proof of this and she has been avoiding the question and not responding. MacLay is extremely shady and I would never recommend them to anyone.

Negative experience: Nickel and dimers. If I ever needed to rent again and see they manage the property, definitely will not consider.

Positive experience: We know the people personally that are behind this place. They are great people that know real estate pretty good. That being said, there were positives and negatives about our rental experience. The rental was big which was nice but felt our rent was too high for the condition it was in. The kitchen was kind of nice but the oven didnt work properly. Had to to wait three months for finally fixed. It had nice office gaming type room. The carpets were just replaced before we got there. The AC was not turned back on for people to be habitant in it. We suffered hot temps as tried to figure what was wrong trying to use portable AC units. Several fixtures in bathroom were broken and needed repair. Shower was ok nit in condition. Poss some mold stuck in rubber sealent. Door handle broken was kinda fixed. Pool was filthy and not ready to be used much. Kids didnt feel comfortable goung in. Some outlets didnt work. There were paint chips on walls and lots of marks to which we later we were blamed for some if them. They did inspections and came up with us to blame for others mistakes. Samantha was not being helpful in trying to help get more money back. With her and the the other lady they seemed to want to just keep our money. We should have gotten $1200 back but they only would give us $500 or $600 back. Reaaly annoying. They kept saying it was our fault for things we didnt do even we too pics to prove it. C'MON Brad and company! I was was hoping to get VIP service. The way the company handled it was dishonest to say the least. I would hope that they have look at their policies and changed some of them so others could have better experience. I love the Maclays but this experience was not good. I know they can do better. I just hope others have better experience. We wish Samantha and other lady were more cooperative to work with. Pretty disappointing.

Fantastic experience: So far, these last 4 years I'd say that they have been a pretty good agency to deal with. I do know the owner of the place that I reside and have the utmost respect for him and what he stands for. Also, with me being a past homeowner I realize the costs and that I am only a steward of the place and not to destroy it with unsupervised kids, food out of the dining room or kitchen or by having any animal's in the home especially since this particular place is condo and doesn't have much of a yard to begin with. Now with that said, I keep the place clean, keep my shoes in the garage and give back from time to time especially when the items aren't too expensive like heater/ac filters, a thermostat, a burner for a stove, a door pocket for a fridge or water filter replacement, a garage door wall switch or remote, resealing a faucet, having a garage door spring professionally replaced/installed etc. I realize that some items are beyond some people's capability and that appliances sometimes need specialists but it also never hurts to give back and show some appreciation with the small stuf. How do you think the place where you reside would look or even hold up if everyone took and never maintained? And when you do give and have the option, use the original factory parts that will go the distance! Over the year's I even changed every light bulb in the home to led using tasteful warm tones and I surely don't plan on taking any or all of it with me when I leave. I have suggestion to the one star reviewer's out there, show some promise be transparent and do the work without ever being told and maybe then your efforts will be recognized and rewarded in return? You can't reap what you're not sowing!

Fantastic experience: I have leased this property for 12 years not sure when Maclay Real Estate took over. I have had a great experience so far. The few issues that occur have been taken care of quickly.

Negative experience: Awful experience. We went to contract with the home owner, after almost a year the owner decided to hire MacLay. We needed to extend our lease 30 days so they charged us an extra $640 for the next months rent. Then when it came time to get out, Velesha had told us the new tenants were eager to get in, and that we would get reimbursed if we got out early. She also told us if we cleaned the place well we wouldn’t be charged for cleaning. I stayed up two nights in a row until 2-3am cleaning top to bottom, with my 2 & 5 year old sleeping in the car so we could be out early. After being out early, she said the landlord didn’t approve of the reimbursement of the rent for the days we were out early, she still charge us for cleaning, charged $390 for touchup paint (there was literally one tiny spot that was about 1ft X 1ft) and charged $200 for yard maintenance, which was some weeds in area of about 10sqft. She had also told my husband she would provide receipts for the work upon request. Yet when I requested them, she told me per state law she’s not required to. Completely unethically, unprofessional, and dishonest.

Fantastic experience: I recently rented a property through Maclay Real Estate. It was a very stressful time for me as I was also moving during the Christmas Holiday. Maclay made it so easy for me. They responded to all of my questions and concerns that I had during the process quickly. I wanted to overlap my previous lease at an apartment complex and wanted into the new property early so I could have a very special Christmas for my 10 year old daughter in our new house where she would finally have her own room. Their communication was awesome! I also wanted to see if the owner might give me an extended lease so it wouldn't be during the holiday next time. They quickly gave her a call and she was also great and agreed to a 13.5 month lease! Of course every new place has those little things that needs a little attention. They had maintenance here to fix a couple of kitchen drawers and the garbage disposal right away! Also a great team and let me know everything they did. This company has a great relationship and communication with great property owners, their staff and vendors and with the tenants! I have never had a crude experience with any of their staff. They are customer friendly and understanding. Negative experience: This property management group has no emergency maintenance line. Go look for yourself. Their website lists the same general office number as for emergency maintenance. Ya know. The number that has nobody watching it after 4 or 5 PM. My A/C is out, and I currently am unable to contact anyone re: getting it fixed. I will update this review IF they are able to abide by tenants laws and provide me with an emergency maintenance phone number, so I can attempt to eke some comfort out of the last few weeks that I'm under their rotting, skeletal thumb. For those of you curious: when my lease was transferred to MacLay without notice, we notified them of many issues in our unit that the previous management company saw fit to ignore, like photographic evidence of mold in the walls. Their response? "... if you have an inspector come out and if there *is* mold, we will reimburse you..." That's not how this works. We reported water damage (which led to the mold) and they sent a repairman who wanted to do the full job but was only paid to do a minimal patch job, that, less than a month later, is already failing. The kitchen counter is falling away from the sink and backsplash, and they used particle board to fix it. I have photographic evidence and screenshots. I will update further if MacLay doesn't address this quickly. UPDATE: If you read below, the owner responded, and is acting like a petulant child. What a surprise. He also didn't bother to address my other concerns, like the mold. If you're reading this, don't use them. Stay as far away as possible. They will abuse your trust, and you will lose money for it.

Fantastic experience: Maclay Property Management has been great. Anytime we had an issue they were quick to respond and get someone over (this is especially important in the Arizona summer months) to check out the problem. Customer service was amazing. Would definitely recommend this management company to any homeowner wanting to rent or lease their property. Two thumbs up! :)

Negative experience: STAY AWAY! Read the reviews, this company is unprofessional, combative, and have no empathy for tenant rights. Brad responded to a negative review bashing the tenant instead of addressing their issues properly. Up charges on properties that need major repairs. Just money hungry.
