Negative experience: Extremely frustrating experience working with the Nitzani team, including Yaron and Aaron. We had a confirmed viewing appointment but the agent did not show up, causing a complete waste of time. Communication throughout the process was extremely poor and it appeared that the unit may already have been rented without this being communicated. Prospective tenants should proceed with caution when working with this team and ensure that availability and appointments are firmly confirmed beforehand.

I emailed, called, texted and requested a tour on street easy a few times. All communication stop once I gave my full name. I guess I’m not the kind of person they want living there. Negative experience: Renters beware. These agents will tell you exactly what you want to hear, take your money and personal information. Once you’re locked in, they gaslight you about the terms and backtrack on what was agreed to. It’s a manipulative game designed to wear you down so they can benefit. We had the rental terms in writing from Isaac Silvera and were explicitly told to submit a deposit to secure the unit. We acted immediately, submitted the deposit, completed all paperwork the same day, and trusted that we had an agreement. Days later, they suddenly changed the terms and claimed the deal was never finalized. All while continuing to hold open houses after taking our application and money. It became obvious we were being used to attract better offers. Meanwhile, we missed out on other apartments while waiting in good faith. The entire experience was exploitative, dishonest, and unethical. This is why brokers have such a bad reputation in this city. They insert themselves into the process, create unnecessary confusion and pressure, and contribute nothing of value. Don’t assume anything is binding with them, even if it’s in writing. And don't give them your money. We still haven’t gotten our deposit back, and based on other reviews, they'll continue to make excuses about that too.

Negative experience: REAL NY Mishandled My Application, Leaked My Private Financial Info, and Then Tried to Pay Me Off. I applied to a rent-stabilized apartment through REAL NY. I met the income requirements. I had a strong employment history, W-2 income, and glowing references from our previous landlord. I submitted detailed documentation and a medical hardship explanation letter. So why was I denied? Because REAL NY’s brokers—Daniel Edmund and Catherine Okoye—excluded the documents that proved my eligibility and instead shared my and my partner’s unredacted bank statements (complete with account numbers) to multiple third-party agencies without our consent. Yes, you read that correctly. When I asked for answers, I got radio silence. Then an unannounced 46-minute call from Keon Morris, Head of Leasing, who said he "couldn’t speak to" why my private financial records were shared or why I was denied despite clearly meeting the qualifications. He just kept insisting that “nothing illegal happened.” Next, they sent their attorney, Marc Lavaia, who offered me $5,000 in hush money—along with a gag order, a release of all legal claims, and a 24-hour deadline to sign away my rights. When I responded with a detailed rebuttal citing federal, state, and city housing law violations? His reply was: “I respectfully disagree.” That’s it. No legal argument. No rebuttal. No acknowledgement of the brokers’ misconduct or the leaked bank records. Just an arrogant brush-off and a demand that I stop contacting leadership—even though they never stepped in to fix what their team had done. When I escalated the matter to leadership—Louis Adler, Robert Rahmanian, Jill Vaccaro, and Amylia Hecker—they ghosted me. Not a single meaningful response. Just a wall of silence while my privacy, housing access, and health were hanging in the balance. REAL NY didn’t just mishandle my application—they violated my privacy, dodged accountability, and tried to silence me instead of fixing the harm their brokers caused. Do NOT trust them with your documents. Do NOT trust them with your application. And if you’re a regular working New Yorker—no trust fund, no flawless credit score, just a human doing your best—RUN. They will bury the proof that you qualified, lie about what you submitted, and leak your unredacted bank statements—account numbers and all—just to cover their own tracks. That’s not just negligence. That’s exposure to identity theft, financial harm, and full-blown fraud. And when the damage is done, they’ll pretend it’s your fault for noticing. Applying to an apartment should NOT leave you exposed, traumatized and reeling from housing discrimination, fraud, and identity theft. This isn’t just a review. It’s a record. Because what happened to me is happening to too many of us. And if they’re allowed to get away with it quietly, they’ll keep doing it loudly. You’ve been warned. REAL NY isn’t just a bad brokerage; it’s a cautionary tale masquerading as a company. Let this be the receipt they can’t delete. P.S. If you're browsing and see a 4.7-star rating—don’t be fooled. That number isn’t about the firm’s integrity. It’s about a handful of brokers who didn’t fumble the bag. It reflects the easy wins, the frictionless deals, the people who never had to ask hard questions or challenge unfair practices. But if you fall outside their mold? If your application requires nuance, compassion, or—God forbid—accountability? That score won’t protect you. Because once the shine wears off, this firm doesn’t just ghost you—they bury your story, leak your documents, and gaslight you for noticing. Don’t let a high rating lull you into a false sense of security. Look closer. Ask harder. And remember: Behind the five stars is a company that burns people like me alive—and sweeps the ashes under 4.7 glittering stars. That number might reflect smooth closings—but it doesn’t reflect the wreckage they leave behind.

Negative experience: Everything up until the apartment showing was a good experience, Yaron confirmed there was no brokers fee and the rent would be at the price it was listed for. However, once our application was approved and we were waiting for the lease agreement, Yaron stated the landlord decided to increase the price of the unit (over $1k) citing "upcoming renovations" (new floors, window ledges, etc.) — even though the unit had been sitting vacant for over a month and that there was going to be a one-month broker's fee. We asked for the lease to clearly state what would be renovated and which amenities were included to justify the sudden rent increase. Even after multiple requests for the renovations to be listed in lease, the brokers pushed back and did not include the renovation details. On top of that, the apartment was listed as pet-friendly and we clearly told the brokers that we were moving in with two pets, but the first version of lease agreement stated "no pets allowed," which demonstrated lack of attention to details. When we asked for that to be corrected, Yaron dismissed our concerns, claiming it was a “standard NYC lease” when there were clear penalties for not abiding to the "no pets" clause. When we moved in, to our surprise, none of the "upcoming renovations" were completed. On top of that, there were basic maintenance issues (missing bolt on front door - only a push button knob, faulty window locks - things that legally should be fixed), and property management dismissed the concerns until we literally had to cite local housing laws and regulations. Only then did they start to take action. Overall, not a great experience, felt misled from both brokers and management.
