Respect is a two way street in the rental world and they gave it in abundance. It's almost as if they were never there (in a good way) and yet were on the ball with mtx/technical requests as needed. If you're a tenant who keeps up with payments and communications, rent from them and you likely won't want to go anywhere else.

Communication and response is always timely, and they’ve never had an issue with working with me on rent payments or otherwise. To be completely honest, this would have been five star based on communication alone, but I had to make it a four due to maintenance response. Two times I had emergency maintenance required, and both times the response had taken longer than desired. One time it was just for a fuse that had blown, but I had spent almost 2 days mostly without electricity just to wait for a fuse box switch to be switched back on (the box was in a basement that tenants don’t have access to). Regardless, special callout to the office team for transparent and responsive communication. Y’all are holding down the fort

Experiencia fantástica: Shift property management has been very accommodating from the moment they replaced the last company for my building i had been there for 5yrs and anytime something needed to be fixed they came right away maintenence guy ken was super nice, the other management company before them messed up my documentation of my pet deposit and said we didn't pay it..luckily shift property were happy to work with us and was able to give us our pet deposit back, as new home owners this was very important to us! They do care about their tenants and WILL work with you when you need them. We will always recommend shift property management for everything they do!!! (And never united property management)

Experiencia fantástica: We rented a condo via Shift Property Management for nearly 4 years, and we really have nothing but good things to say about working with this company. Jack is awesome, the help they offered was always timely, friendly and competent, and their online portal is easy to use. I have to mention that the owners of the property clearly "dragged their feet" on occasion, but I can't hold Shift responsible for that.

Experiencia positiva: I have used United for several years and liked them. Sam approached me through a mutual friend and introduced me to shift. Initially I liked working with Sam and right away noticed low maintenance fees. This review is edited from my original because i ended up leaving Shift and going back to United. I was opted in to a charity that Sam runs by default. I received an email that I could opt out and ended up in an argument with him, explaining that you cannot opt people in by default to something like this. Issue was resolved but trust was damaged. Later I felt better served elsewhere, primarily due to tenant/landlord focus. I felt that Shift, at times, put tenants before property owners.

I have friends and family in the area but I didn't even need them because Sam and Jack were so helpful during the entire process. They ran rental comps, worked with my realtor so she could drop off keys after closing, and got the house rented a month later. The Shift Management team is always responsive and they even set up a monthly check-in with me to monitor maintenance requests after the tenants moved in. I finally drove by the house during a recent visit to GR and the property is in great shape. I would highly recommend Shift and will be working with them again if I acquire another property in the area.

Experiencia positiva: After renting from Shift for 18 months, we're left feeling they prioritize care of their property owners rather than tending to the tenants renting from them. It was common to have to communicate needs and spell things out more than once in order to get their attention or response. Mulitple times on different scenarios we were met with the response that "this should have been addressed X amount of time ago, sorry" - when we had already communicated multiple times about our lease agreement/needs not being met (black mold in ceiling was only addressed after multiple reminders, same scenario with lawn not mowed for over a month, missing the return of our security deposit within 30 days). Beware that you will need to communicate your needs and remind them of your rights as a paying tenant or you will be overlooked.

Experiencia fantástica: In 2017, I had two rental properties, a duplex and fourplex, in the Grand Rapids area. I was living out of state and had a property manager who was not paying me my rents in a timely manner, sometimes for months at a time, always with a great excuse. (These were my first rentals, I was working in health care full-time and alot on-call hours so in my ignorance and exhaustion, I believed him for way too long.) He would delay rent payments to me, say he had use the money to "do repairs" that I never authorized (keeping his guys busy working through the winter, was my guess) but then he would not follow up with the work I requested that he complete. I arranged to meet up with him on a trip to the area to do a walk-through of my properties. At the last minute (after I was already in the area) he bailed on me, saying he had forgotten and "would be gone at the time, on a cruise of the Great Lakes with his wife." I searched for a new property management company immediately, and thankfully, Shift Property Management agreed to take over the properties. They handled everything to transition rental management to their company and the subsequent cleanup of the rentals, because they were a mess. I am so grateful for the integrity, professionalism and courtesy that I always encountered while working with Shift. Being an out of state and very inexperienced landlord, I learned what it meant to be able to trust my property managers, they were a God-send to me. I can't thank them enough. As a former employee and now using them to manage my own property there is no other property management company I would even remotely come close to using in the area. I've seen the amazing and diligent works that they do for their owners while trying to make the best living situation possible for tenants as well. Everyone is hands on and works together to find solutions that make all parties happy. Those kinds of services are hard to come by these days and Shift is on it!

Experiencia fantástica: In early 2021 I found myself needing to vacate a property I rented from another (well known) property management company. Their handling of the situation told me I needed to stay away from their inventory. I stumbled across the house I'm in currently on Facebook. Fortunately I met the homeowner of this place and my luck would have it, they were with Shift. I was able to apply quickly and move in as soon as the house was ready. Any maintenance issue I've had has been fixed promptly and the first time they come out. Their communication from their maintenance crew and office staff has been to notch. I dreaded my lease renewal as the stories of rent going up have circulated far and wide in this country. Imagine my pleasure to sign for 18 more months at a very reasonable rate. I experienced some medical issues and fell a bit behind, Jack was so incredibly kind and understanding while I caught up. I've lived in this city the majority of my life and rented all over. I will recommend this company to anyone I meet, renter or investor. Thank you all for being human!! 10/10 would recommend.
