Negative experience: We had a very disappointing experience with this realtor Kalana Welch. On the day of our scheduled viewing, we arrived at the property only to be pressured to sign with them as our buyer’s agent before being allowed to see the home. There was no prior notice or disclosure that this listing agent intended to have dual representation, and the tactic felt disgraceful, greedy, and unethical. This kind of surprise and coercion is unacceptable and does not reflect professional or transparent real estate practices. We strongly caution other buyers to be aware of this behavior.

Negative experience: This real estate company was very unprofessional throughout the purchase of a condo we recently bought. They ordered the wrong condo documents which delayed the sale of the property by 2 weeks and cost the seller an extra month of HOA fees. They also didn't make sure the condo was empty during the final walk through and there was broken furniture and dirty underwear on the floor. They did not provide the key pad code for the garage and only gave one garage door opener when there's usually 2. The key to the pools wasn't working properly and we had to pay $50 right off the bat to even get into the amenities. After the sale was made and we ran into these problems, they never called back to answer any questions about the incorrect keys or missing garage door opener. If we didn't like the condo as much as we did, their customer service alone would've made me bypass this property. Be prepared for a frustrating process if they're the company handling the sale of a property.

Negative experience: We were referred to this Brokerage from a mortgage broker we had used in the past. We were advised that this team was one of the best on the island so of course we were eager to work with them. Being that we were off island when we started the process of trying to buy a home, the working relationship started off great. Communication was consistent and frequent and Rustan was informative re areas and requirements etc. Based on initial interactions, we decided to move forward with the process and use this agency to purchase our new home. We were set up with a search on their platform and started receiving regular auto generated emails for properties based on our specs. We were very interested in buying new construction and Rustan did explain the lottery process to us given the demand for new construction on the island. The first warning sign though was when it came time to submit our lottery applications in July and August which we had said we wanted to be included in. The deadline was fast approaching and we had not heard back from this office despite our emails and phone calls. Our applications were eventually submitted within the timeframe but at the 11th hour. By the grace of God, we were selected in the lottery on our second application and unfortunately for us the service was downhill from there. Construction of our home was slated for the end of November. We arrived on island late August and were living in a hotel and had to vacate after 60 days (active-duty military). We had emphasized this to Rustan when we arrived and he had informed us of a rental property that he places buyers in short term and that we would be able to move in to said place until our home was finished. When it came time to move into temp accommodation, we couldn't even get in touch with him and we were left in limbo with nowhere really to stay. Rustan had placed another one of his buyers in the rental he had mentioned to us and it was not available anymore. Instead of telling us upfront though, he strung us along for weeks with the promise of follow up but numerous phone calls and emails went unanswered. When he did eventually get back to us, it was with no real info. We asked for assistance to find temp accommodation because we had searched high and low ourselves but being in the midst of summer, options were minimal and no viable options were proposed and we were again advised that he would get back to us but nothing. At the end, he literally just stopped replying to my emails or returning calls. Luckily, we were blessed to have a family from my husband’s command open their home to us so we had somewhere to stay. Having just moved to the island, living in a hotel and being displaced again for an extended period of time until our home was built was hard enough, but not having the support from your agency that you choose to work with compacted the situation. Buying a home is a huge process and you want agents that support you as the buyer. I don't feel we were provided that by this agency. There was no representation at any walk through, meeting or anything really. They did nothing proactive in the way of representing us, the Buyers. All they did was submit our lottery application. We arrived on island on August 25, 2021 and to this day no one made contact to meet us in person. We didn't even get so much as a phone call on the day of our closing. Instead, I received an auto generated text message from Target advising me that Charlene Tong had sent me a gift card. I was flawed really. All in all, the real estate market is very competitive on island and this is definitely not going to be our last home purchase in Hawaii but we will certainly be choosing our next agent wisely so we are represented as we should be. Sadly, I would not recommend this agency to anyone. Which is a shame because Rustan is a really nice person.
