Fantastic experience: Wonderful act of kindness from someone at Rent a Home today - delivered a meal to a homeless gentleman near Walmart on battleground. Thank you for the inspiring act.

Negative experience: Extremely poor customer service. Wasted a week of our time waiting to see a home we weren't even eligible to rent despite asking for clarification on pet restrictions and being ignored. Don't waste your time like we did, the landlords are garbage.

Fantastic experience: Having owned rental properties, working with various management groups for over 40 years, I feel compelled to leave a 5 Star rating for Rent-A-Home. For me, they have been, by far, the BEST. From their well orchestrated online portal, immediate & courteous response from staff, prompt attention to any issue, I could not be more impressed. I no longer own rentals, simply an owner in a building they manage, but I truly love living here for the last 2 years, appreciating their effort to keep the property up, doing the very best they can to please tenants. I recognize people like to complain on Google about all sorts of things, but having had extensive experience with management groups, being on Condo Boards, it’s a tough business, extremely challenging to please everyone. I assure you, this management team is far more on the ball and customer service oriented than most. I’m considering renting my apartment soon and will definitely hire Rent-A-Home of the Triad. Thank you to Ryan and the Rent-A-Home team for taking great care of us, always doing your best.

Negative experience: I would like to start by saying I had no issues with rent a home but the landlord for 1112 Eagle rd is HORRIBLE! moved in 04/01/2025 and was told to be out by 03/31/26! My little family of five and I thought it was okay until all the problems set in, mold in the kitchen, water bubbles in the walls and a non working fireplace… but that was the least of the issues! The property had erosion REALLY bad! The landlord didnt want to fix it! The kitchen counters were not properly installed and my child almost fell off of it just from leaning on it to get a cookie… by son is 4!! BUT that’s not why we were TOLD we can’t resign our lease…. We were told we couldn’t resign because of our dog that we provided ALL PROPER documents for as well as pictures! Just to be told “we were new to the pet screening process and they NEVER looked at my dogs photos”!! Then was RUSHED TO VACATE the property by the 31st of March! My family and I moved out with 3 days!! Don’t EVER LIVE AT 1112 EAGLE RD IN GREENSBORO NC…. The landlord are vile and just want your money!! The house was not worth the rent given all the SERIOUS issues that needed to be fixed!! WILL NEVER RENT AGAIN!! An: have not gotten my deposit yet but if I don’t there will be PROBLEMS I PROMISE YOU!!

Negative experience: Honestly, not happy about my Experience moved in 09/01/2023 & 11/03/2025 was asked to vacate the property by or on 12/31/2025 ….. was contacted over 28 times by the owner of the property & her realtor rushing me to vacate the property even with rent being paid in full for the month of December was unable to enjoy holiday or even enjoy the last month renting the place.. was out of the place by 12/31/2025 keys dropped in box Haven’t received any type of updates from (Rent A home of triad ) In regards to my security deposit, considering the fact I was rushed out of the property …I wasn’t offered any type of compensation Just basically get out and we’re keeping your security deposit is what it seems. considering the property is already up for sale And then actively viewed by potential buyersmeans that they should have some type of update on my security deposit!! I’ve called the office several times to try to speak with someone and I keep getting they cannot help me. Which is so weird because This whole time I’ve been renting I’ve never been Treated such way …

Negative experience: Please do NOT rent here, especially if the owner of the unit offered is John Jobe. I lived in one of their units for almost four years and was constantly being harassed by my neighbor. Despite detailed documentation and multiple police reports (from me and other tenants!) the owner + management did nothing! My neighbor was constantly harassing me, banging on the ceiling/my floors during daytime hours, screaming, blasting music so loudly it would shake the entire house, he would get up in the middle of the night and bang on my door, shout threats at me and any guests I had over whenever we were outside and he was home, and he even threw objects at my window while threatening to get a dog for the explicit purpose of killing my cat, etc. He also ran out my other neighbor a few months before by screaming at her and trying to break into her apartment in the middle of the night, leaving huge cracks in her door, which again, he faced zero repercussions for. He was genuinely unwell, he would be normal one week and then would be screaming and banging on the walls at all hours the next. I reported this to the landlord multiple times and he did absolutely nothing. I had to go to the police and threaten to charge my neighbor with harassment so he would leave me alone *just* long enough so I could move out. And even then, he was screaming threats at me out of his window as I was packing my Uhaul the day I was leaving. I was afraid to go outside or check my mail for years due to this man and I was completely brushed off and ignored by the landlord who just told me to just "work it out" like it was some kind of reasonable dispute. I am a small disabled woman and I rely on mobility aids to get around, I had no means of protecting myself and felt completely disregarded. I regret ever renting from these people and I would highly recommend you look elsewhere if you value your safety being taken seriously.

Negative experience: This is the absolute worst company I have ever worked with. The only reason we are still choosing to live in our home is because we have a relationship with the owner of the home and the house is perfect for us. Every interaction with this office is a headache. Trying to get a hold of anyone is a struggle and once you do you either get excuses or an "I don't know". Work orders will take a minimum of 6 weeks to be completed and will likely not be done correctly. Waited almost 2 months for my fridge to be fixed, then waited 6 weeks for them to have our floor fixed, resulting in my significant other FALLING THROUGH THE FLOOR for them to actually do something. Going on 3 weeks with no bathroom vanity or sink... wonder how long that's going to take. Erin and Ryan are rude over the phone but when they see you in person want to act like nothing is wrong. We have never once even received so much as an APOLOGY for their negligence. Save yourself the headache, do not rent from these people. update* Yes because we should have had to live for 6 weeks with the floors caving in and your solution was to put us in an air bnb for 6 days when they were only actually working on the home for 2 of those days... great business practice! Moral of the Story: If you want your safety and health taken seriously in your own home don't leave it up to them! <3

Hi Kayla,

I’m really sorry to hear this has been your recent experience. It’s never our intention to make things harder on anyone as we know how stressful home issues can be, especially when repairs take longer than expected.

Regarding the flooring situation: the leak under the house was reported on March 24, and we had a plumber sent out that same day. Once the leak was fixed, he reported that the floor and subfloor had significant water damage. We acted immediately and had to get multiple estimates from different vendors (since flooring and vanity work are handled separately), and the owner's insurance got involved, which added more time. Once everything was finally approved, work was scheduled right away, and we provided temporary housing while the repairs were completed. That floor repairs are now done.

As for the bathroom vanity—that delay came from a change in direction. We had a vanity on order that matched the space, but the owner decided to go with a different one. Then we were asked to switch back to the original. It’s frustrating, and we get that. That said, there is still a second full bathroom available in the home while we wait for the final install, which should happen soon.

We also understand you feel like communication hasn’t been consistent. Our team has been in frequent contact with your household—phone calls, in-person visits, texts, emails—but if that still hasn’t met expectations, we’re sorry. That’s not the experience we want anyone to have with us.
We’ve genuinely tried to be responsive and do what we can to help throughout this process, and we’re still here if you'd like to talk through anything directly.

Negative experience: Your representative called me at 2 minutes to 10 am (my appointment time) and blamed your office for not seeing my appointment on her calender. She wasted my mother, my fathers, and my time and blamed you. I told her she was lying, she would have been better off saying she got held up at another appointment. I had to fill out multiple emails and reply to my text on Friday confirming I would be there, which I was 10 minutes early. She thought the easiest solution would be for us to wai 30 minutes for her. The amount of unprofessionalism is pathetic. Her next brilliant idea was for us to come back at 12pm. Do you think I have 2 and a half hours to risk for her to maybe show up? By the way my father is friends with John Jobe(owner of property) and we will be reaching out to him directly about how his property is being managed. Also, when I finish this email, I will immediately be submitting reviews online everywhere I can. By the way, your employee called me back and said she couldn't believe how rude I was and did not want to wait for her, and then hung up on me. Please fire her.

Hi Heath! I apologize that you had issues during your appointment time on Saturday. I spoke with our showing agent who did let me know that she called you at 9:53am to let you know that she was going to be running about 15 mins. late. While you understandably did not want to wait for her to arrive, the only other solution at the moment was for her to see if you and your family would be available to come back at Noon since waiting until 10:15am would not work for you. We do send out confirmation texts and we appreciate your prompt responses. I am truly sorry that our showing agent was running late. We want to help rectify this situation in any way you can. Please give me a call to discuss further in hopes that we can come up with a solution that works for all parties involved. Please accept our sincerest apologies and I hope to talk to you soon. I can be reached at 743-223-1775.

Fantastic experience: I saw a property on their website and applied without viewing the home. I actually was viewing another home with them and Karen was amazing and I let her know I have a tour with her tomorrow for the house I applied to. Every step of the way the company has been amazing and has helped me get my dream home for me and my son!! The application and everything was a breeze. Strongly recommend!

Positive experience: I’ve been living in my place now for two months. The application process was great. It was smooth and quick. No problems there. The ladies at the office are amazing as well. It’s the issues I’ve had after moving in. I’ve been here two months and still do not have a key to the main entrance. I moved in unaware of a pest issue and even though they have sent someone out it isn’t solving the problem and has actually gotten worse. Plus, now there is a ceiling leak that gets worse each time it rains. Every time I’ve asked about it I’m being told I have to wait. There seems that the issues aren’t being resolved and just put off and it’s very frustrating because the home is beautiful and the area is great for my teenager. But I find myself counting down the months because I’ve never lived like this.

Positive experience: Rent A Home has been great the first face I saw was Karen. Her blue eyes are very warm she is truly an asset. Erin has been great also I had the pleasure of meeting her this past Monday with my son. I am a single mom who is an On Demand Medicare Advisor. Due to my previous FMO over 7000 brokers were robbed of our monies and business. Life hit me so hard it has lasted over a year. Although it took over a good year; my intentions were to be honest and transparent. “You control your controllable.” I did not get a home but it was an experience. Thank you to Rent A Home. One last thing there is a young lady by the name of Taylor, honestly she was not very friendly at all. My first encounter with her was over the phone confirming a property that I saw. As we say in Dentistry she was HOT! A five star would be great but Taylor needs to understand that her anger and attitude comes through. Thank you Erin and Karen you never know what tomorrow will bring. Never look at a persons situation today because it is subject to change for THE BETTER. SHALOM AND SHALOM AGAIN!

Where on your website does it say that people have to be married or related to share a room? Absolutely absurd and quite frankly sounds made up. Tell people these things before you let them see a home if that's supposedly your policy.

Positive experience: We got our keys through triad rent-a-home 11/17/21. Move in was a breeze, at the time we didn’t have enough income so we were able to have a co-signer. We had no major maintenance issues in our home and barely had to reach out to the management company. We have paid all of our bills on time. We did our own lawn care, with there being an exception once when our lawnmower was broken and was getting fixed the following week. I let the company know this, but they still sent a letter stating we needed it done by the end of the week or there would be penalties on our dime. We had to pay the management company for someone to come do the lawn. This and gutters were the only work order maintenance that we needed AND had to pay for per our lease. 11/17/22 rolls around and we re-sign our lease for another year. This time without a co-signer because 1. I didn’t need the co-signer to have my information anymore, and 2. We made enough income at this point that it wouldn’t matter. We decided it was ok that they added addendum (1 page) that states they are able to take half of our rent (almost $600) from the security deposit for marketing fees and re-listing the home. Kind of scummy, but is ok because we were still wanting to stay another year. 11/17/23 rolls around, and we are told the landlord wants to go month to month and does not want to sign another lease. At no fault of triad rent-a-home, our lease went month to month. With anyone not familiar, month to month means the landlord can legally give you 30 days to move out whenever they would like. We were not comfortable with this, as we expressed concern over having to leave whenever they want with no heads up. Sure this might not happen- but with it being possibility- in this housing/renting market- I did not want to risk it. Stability is really important. We decided to send our move out intent form for 2/17/24, hoping that they would not ask us to move out before then, as it was still 3 months away. During move out procedures, they will want to come see your home 3 months in advance of move out to see if it is pretty enough to re-list with you still living in the home. They called it a preliminary assessment. Thankfully we had already begun getting rid of things in the house, so it was a bit messy, they decided to pass on re-listing it with us still occupying it. Move out rolls around- and the co-signer who did not need my information (who is no longer on the lease) receives a text with all of my move out information and date. This should be a privacy concern through triad rent-a-home. Move out was smooth and we are still waiting to see how much of our security deposit comes back. We are now renting through concord management. EDITED TO ADD: called the front desk and Sussana pulled up my lease and confirmed that my cosigner was not on the lease. Brandin was able to pull up and go through the lease with me and apparently my cosigner was not taken off. This was my mistake- not Triad Rent-a-home. They did mention they now have the tenants come in and sit/go through the lease before they re-sign which i think is really important. I did mention that they should specify that the re-listing fee only applies if the lease is broken. I've updated my review to reflect 4 stars despite the issues we've had. EDITED 3/17- they have asked for an additional 30 days to return our security deposit. This will make 60 days without a security deposit. Back down to three stars. This has been a nightmare.

Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc.
Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc.

Hi Hailey! The addendum regarding the re-leasing fee only applies if you break your lease. If you do not break your lease, there are no fees that you are charged for the re-leasing of the home. On the most recent lease renewal that you had signed, the co-signer was not removed which is why he was sent a text regarding the key turn in procedure. Other than the move out date, no personal information was sent in that text to your co-signer. It is our policy to schedule a preliminary assessment once any tenant gives notice so we have an idea of the condition of the property and a heads-up on any turnover work that may be needed after move out. We did not show your property as we were unsure of the owner's plans. Rent-A-Home does not own any property that we manage and it is our goal to provide quality housing at a fair market price. If you wish to discuss this further, please give us a call.

Thank you!

Hi Mr. Mcauthur,

Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc. complies with the Federal Fair Housing Act and treats everyone the same. All applicants have their credit, criminal and background checks pulled. The application is presented to the property owner who makes the final decision. Race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status, and disability status are not shared with the property owner and are not taken into consideration when it comes to making a decision on an application.

Our software shows that you were approved and rented a property that we manage. You moved into the property in April 2022, but we unfortunately had to evict you in August 2022 due to non-payment of rent. We would like to discuss your balance of $3,150.29 with you. Please give us a call to set up a payment arrangement.

If you would like to discuss your review further, please give me a call directly at 743-223-1775.

Negative experience: I don’t recommend Rent a Home for managing your property. I don’t know where to begin. The renter they chose with out my approval was late on the first months rent. A fee was charged to me every time they served papers for eviction. I requested for tenant to be evicted thinking I would get money from the deposit. However charges was taken out of the deposit for removal of trash which was never done. I was told when the tenant that owes me $3000. would now owe me for additional services. So rent a home deduction the bogus charges out of the deposit. Told me I can collect from the tenant. Dealing with Rent A home was the worst experience I have ever had.

Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc.
Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc.

Hi Angie, our application process always allows for the Owner of the property to decide on approving or denying an application. All information was presented to you, and you had the choice to either approve or deny the application. We do not make these decisions without the owner's approval. RAH does not charge a "fee" to file for eviction. RAH pays the cost of court up front, and RAH is reimbursed for the costs of court by the Owner if the tenant does not pay. You, as the Owner, were not charged for repair items that were not completed. Items that were above normal wear and tear were taken out of the tenant's security deposit to reimburse you for tenant damages. We do attempt to collect any balances owed on a tenant's account after move out. The account balance does show up on the tenant's credit report and will be sent to collections if payment is not received. I apologize that the tenant in place did not pay rent on time and in turn, had to be evicted. If you wish to discuss this further please feel free to give me a call at 743-223-1775.

Thank you!

Hi Morgan,

I am so sorry that you had issues with the application process. After research, it does look like the phone number submitted with your application was off by one number. I see where we have previously texted you regarding appointments, etc. At the time you applied, the property had been rented and we did send the number on the application a text informing them that the home was no longer available. You would not have received this text as the number listed on the application was off by a digit. We gave two options - a refund since the application was never processed, or a transfer to a different available property after a tour.

Please reach out to me directly at 743-223-1775 if you would like to choose either option listed above.

Thank you!

Negative experience: I wouldn’t even waste my time applying with them because all applications for properties are presented to the owners at the same time and they choose which applicant that they want to approve. I was told this by one of the staff here. Therefore, you have no chance of getting ahead of anyone else as far as your application (even if you apply before other applicants). I just think that’s crazy! Also, with the first property that I applied to, I was told in person by a staff member there that my application could be “pushed up” in front of the other applicant that had already applied. Although he knew that this wasn’t true hence what I’ve stated. I didn’t know that at the time when I stopped by the office for the first time. I was lied to and I don’t appreciate that. I was short on time with finding a place in which I let them know that then. The application process took longer than it should have. With the second property that I applied to, initially online on their website it was supposed to be ready by a certain date, the date was then pushed back to a later date and then they took it down altogether. I called to inquire about this being that I just happened to see it and because I had asked them to apply my application to the property. I was told by staff that “it’s still not ready and we don’t know when it will be so we just took it down for now.” I don’t think that’s very professional or the way that they don’t answer the phone when you call. I would just go by in person instead because of this unfortunately. I forgot to mention that when I called to check on this property later someone else was approved for it already.

Negative experience: The people that work here are pleasant but the home owners aren't good land lords. When we first started renting we had a few issues which took weeks to get fixed. Then home we rented I guess was acquired by rentahome mid lease. The whole time we lived at 1616 n ohenry there were animals in the walls and it took them days to send someone out who did nothing. So we lived with animals in the walls for 3 years. Despite our complaints nothing was done. Then something under the home broke and water leaked down the street for 3 days. I called everyday to try and get it fixed and the water company would only cover a portion of the bill and the landlord refused to cover the rest so we had to. Despite my daily calls and my concerns about the bill while it was happening. They then had an inspector come to the home and look because we were having so many issues. People stealing screen doors ect. He wrote all this down. Now that we've moved out and asked for our security deposit back. They took the list of our concerns and charged us for them and they want an additional $455 after we had to cover the water bill they were responsible for. They basically sent an inspector out to make a list of things that were already broken so they could charge us when we left. Furthermore they had their handyman come out and put a screen door up which he couldnt hang straight because the wood on the house was so rotten it wouldnt hold. Same with the transition pieces on the floor in the house. No screw or nail would hold because of the rotting wood. Which they now want to charge us for AFTER we told them. The ceiling in our laundry room was so rotten it was sagging he even took pictures to show them. It was never fixed. They will not see the $455 ever. We will go to court first. I would give 0 stars if possible. THE WORST rental experience of my life and my family is military so we've seen some horrible places. They also couldn't tell me the name of the owner of my house so I could file a complaint against him as a landlord. THE WORST

Hi Jennifer,

I am sorry that you had maintenance issues at the home you resided in. As you know, we took over management of the property after you had been living in the home for 2 years. We managed the home for about 7 months before you vacated. While we do work to get all maintenance items handled as soon as possible, we are sometimes constrained by the homeowner. We do not own properties that we manage and unless it is an emergency, we cannot always make the decision to make repairs without the homeowners approval. The items that were charged out of the security deposit were tenant responsibility per the lease.

If you would like to discuss this further please reach out to me directly at 743-223-1775.

Thank you!

Negative experience: This is the worst experience ever they wouldn't give me a virtual tour waited until that following Friday the end of the week at 2:00 to have a tour in person before I could have the tour I was contacted that they had rented it by 1:00 that Friday after that they tell me that it was rented by the person who would filled out an application that morning they had my application for 2 weeks. We play phone tag for 2 weeks they didn't respond to my email voice messages It was just like a big run around and then I realize they were just playing games and they already had decided that they weren't going to give it to me once I sent my ID in with my picture they profile just like all the other rental agencies this is probably one of the worst only good thing is is they gave me my application fee back because they had not yet processed the application they're policy is that you have to see the property first and I understood that but they gave me the runaround for two whole weeks and then I had towait until that following Friday and they would not let me have a virtual tour which is what they offered in the emailweeks before. I am giving two stars only because the young lady who listen to me vent about the process and offered some information about the process was very cordial and I appreciate that thank you

Hi Trina! When you submitted an application for the property, we reached out to you and let you know that before we can process the application you needed to take a tour. We did not hear back from you until 10/24/22, and again, we let you know that you needed to tour the unit before we could proceed with processing the application. You did schedule a tour for 10/28/22, but unfortunately the property had been rented before you had a chance to tour the unit. We continue to show all of our properties until we have a signed lease and paid security deposit. I apologize that you missed out on this property, but am glad that we were able to issue you a refund since we had not been able to process the application. We are glad that you had a pleasant experience with Brandin. If you wish to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to reach out. My direct line is 743-223-1775.

Fantastic experience: I have been using Rent a Home of the Triad for 9 years to manage my rental property. They are the best of the BEST. I live 200 miles away and never had to worry about receiving my rent money (which was automatically deposited to my account) or the condition of my property. They are on top of things. Kerri, Jeff, the Karens and all who have helped me made me feel like part of the Rent a Home Family! Sadly I am terminating my relationship with them as my grandson is moving into my rental home. They have assured me I can always come back if that does not work out. They could not have been more gracious and continue to be of help to me. Thank you! I love all of you and God bless you.

Positive experience: We rented one of the properties they manage for nearly 3 years. For the most part it was uneventful, and any time we needed help (i.e. broken garage opener, water heater failure), I usually just contacted the landlord directly. Felt we had a pretty good relationship. We took great care at move out, making sure everything inside was professionally cleaned, yard mowed and trimmed, gutters cleaned, etc. Instead of returning my security deposit, however, they sent me a bill for $1500 "overgrown yard clean up". Wow. Only time in my life anything like that has happened, and I've been renting for over 10 years from 6 different landlords. Had a couple argue about trimming a bush or wanting exterior cleaning done, but never just been sent a giant bill. And the kicker is it was for work the landlord elected to do over a month before I moved out, and most of it was nothing a tenant would ever be responsible for, mainly clearing land that was overgrown before move in. None of the work was ever discussed with me, no one indicated I'd be charged for any of it, and I was never given any opportunity to complete it. On top of that, the contractor who did the work destroyed some of my plants and left litter all over the back yard for me to clean up. And again, this was done over a month before I moved out, without notice. And there has been no acknowledgement whatsoever of the harm they caused, or the efforts we put in to leave the property professionally cleaned beyond any tenant responsibility. When I protested, they did reevaluate, but they're still holding me accountable for some of it, without offering any justification, relevant invoices, photographs, etc. If that changes, I'll update this review, but as of now I just feel like I'm being taken advantage of. I need proof of relevant charges or my entire deposit back. That seems like a fair ask. Edit: They're now only claiming $250 for untrimmed bushes, which is more reasonable. Still not ok though! - the work was done without notice or warning, over a month before move out - the photos they used as justification are not correct, as the "before" photo is actually a current photo, clearly displaying a sticker that I put up during my tenancy - the bushes were only a little more overgrown at the time they were cut than when we moved in. The landlord had them cut back to the bone, on my dime apparently Still does not feel good. Added 1 star. Will add more if situation is fully rectified. Edit 2: After further discussion, I've agreed to the $250 charge. It's similar enough to what I would've paid a contractor to trim the bushes. The timing and selection of contractor were not Rent-a-Home's fault - that was done by the landlord. Again, I felt I had a good relationship with the landlord so it's still very puzzling ... but I do feel that Rent-a-Home has acted in good faith. At this point, I'm just waiting to receive my check. Added another star.

Negative experience: If I could give this place 0 stars I would, nothing but BIG LIARS. Logan tells me" that the house I wanted to look at will not be ready for viewing until April 20, 2022 and that only myself and another family had applied for it". The family that was in it asked that they not show it until they moved out on the 20th, yesterday 21st they call to tell me that the house is already rented. So the other family viewed and and got approved all in one day, when Logan clearly told me it takes 3-4 days for the application process to be completed. This is the third time they canceled or came up with an excuse not to show me a house. Please do not waste your time and money with these people. RUN AND RUN FAST!!!!

Negative experience: Would give 0 stars if I could, have never left a review in my entire life but they made this so bad I had to do my first: I found my ideal apartment that had everything I was looking for...saw the reviews of Rent a Home and was worried, but decided to pursue the place anyways, thinking “how bad can they be?”It was hell from the start. you’ll find yourself dialing random extension numbers when you call just to get in contact with someone, ANYONE! They don’t answer the phone or call you back unless they need money or need more time . They grant me the courtesy of 2 DAYS prior to my move-in date with a TEXT MESSAGE that my date would need to be pushed back a week later, after arranging utilities, taking time off work, etc. then the following week after rearranging EVERYTHING, they did it AGAIN! I ended up terminating the lease for my ideal location just because I did not want to deal with this “company”. Rent a home made an experience that was supposed to be exciting for me an absolute nightmare. I am overall extremely discouraged.

Negative experience: This was an awful experience from start to finish. Their website is not up to date. They bait you with properties that aren't available so you will pay to apply. The reality is they don't have much to offer. Karen and Tiarra told me it would take 3-4 business days, then changed it to a week, then never called me back. Logan told me he would call back, never did. Don't apply! That's what their business really is, get people to apply for properties that aren't even available. Shame

Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc.

Hi Richard, I am sorry the process was not as quick as you were hoping. As we told you earlier this week we were waiting on your rental reference so we could finish processing your application. We try to finish applications as soon possible, but sometimes there can be delays. As we told your coapplicant yesterday your application is still active for 60 days and we can move that over to another property after doing a tour.
As far as taking applications we do require you tour a unit prior to applying for the property. This way we do not have applicants applying for properties that are not available yet or do not meet what they are looking for. Thank you for your feedback and if there is anything else you would like to tour please give us a call! Thanks!

Negative experience: Just as an FYI for everyone that does rent with this company. On your way out make sure to have a physical walkthrough with management. If not, they will come up with reasons to charge you and overcharge per 'repair'. Then when you dispute it they will not respond. But if you try to sue them, they will claim they are not the correct party. This is a protection so they can sue you, but not vice versa. They will keep your deposit, and you have no chance of ever mediating, or even arbitraging, your dispute.

Negative experience: If integrity means anything, this probably isn't the place business wise. As a tenant, a consumer no tenant, consumer should feel worried to ask for anything to be fixed from fear their going to be treated poorly or only tolerated, gaslighted. My issue was I had drove 8 hrs with both my well behaved kids to tour homes that I was interested in, not any suggested properties which I didn't ask for or need. I wasn't offered a FaceTime tour like other applicants, until after the property I wanted was off the market and I wasn't offered any accommodation for any future FaceTime tours which wasn't available to view, the only response was I can put your name on the list. I wasn't thanked or have a nice day or nothing.

Hi Grace, I am sorry you were unhappy with the service I provided for you today. I worked with you and went through my schedule for today to see if we were showing any properties that worked within the parameters you were looking for. I also printed you a brand new vacancy listing and went through by hand through every single listing to notate for you which properties were no longer available. I then suggested you drive by the listings we talked about to make sure you liked the exterior before setting up the tour as to not waste your time looking at houses you didn’t like. I’m sorry if you feel that I do not have any integrity. We strive to help everyone that walks through our door, and I’m sorry if you feel as though I fell short on that today. Please let me know what we can do to better in the future. Thank you.

Negative experience: I have been renting this house that I am currently living in for 3 years now. The rental company I had previously signed my lease with was AMAZING. Never had any issues whatsoever with them. Then, about 11 months ago the rental company was switched to Rent a Home of the Triad. This is when my problems started. About 6 months ago I noticed black mold coming out of outlets, light fixtures, walls, and door hinges. I contacted them for a maintenance request, which went unanswered. Then the owner of the property (not RAH) came by and literally scrubbed the black mold off of the spots it could be seen and left. I recently called again about the black mold because at this point it is affecting me and my very small children’s health, and was told that they had a maintenance request in and pending. STILL AFTER 6 MONTHS. Now, the mold has progressively gotten worse. It’s inside the walls, and damaging the Sheetrock. During this phone conversation while I am asking about what they plan to do about this black mold that is taking over this house, she asks me when she can set up a time to have an agent come out to make sure it’s move-in ready before I move out in 2 weeks. AFTER WE JUST HAD THIS BLACK MOLD CONVERSATION. Of course the house isn’t move-in ready, it’s a health and safety violation. Now a few months ago I paid for my own mold testing since they cannot seem to find enough care in the world about other people’s health, and of course, there is black mold. I am so worried that after I move out some poor unsuspecting person will move-in to this house unaware of how bad this mold is and how detrimental it is to their health because of how Rent a Home only cares about their money and nothing else. This house needs to be condemned. I am planning to contact the city inspector about this because it is illegally and morally WRONG. I have documented everything about this catastrophe situation including me and my children’s declining health and am preparing to take action. Shame on you Rent a Home of the Triad. ALSO, I am unable to leave a review on Facebook. If that doesn’t say shady I’m not sure what does.

Positive experience: I rented from ROH in the past, never had an issue. The Landlord owner cancelled his contract with them. We had to move out this month (November 30th) due to owner no longer want to rent his property with another rental company. I reached out to ROH cause we saw 2 other Properties that they had for rent. We really thought we had a good chance to get one, but I guess the Landlords have the last word to pick and choose whom they want in their homes, because I see both Properties were still on the market for rent!It was just my Mother and me. But we are thankful that ROH refunded our application fees back ($100.00)

Negative experience: This company is terrible. Absolutely terrible. If you do make the mistake of doing business with these crooks then protect yourself and take a fully thorough video of the condition of the place you rent as soon as you move in. THEY WILL RENT YOU A SLUM AND THEN KEEP YOUR DEPOSIT WHEN YOU LEAVE JUST BECAUSE OF THE GENERALLY TERRIBLE CONDITION OF THE MAJORITY OF THEIR PROPERTIES. There is a reason the reviews here are so bad Where to start? Let's start with the website. It just plain doesn't work. Try and filter your search results and it comes up with 0 results everytime. The pictures they use on their website are often old and not representative of the current condition of the property. They try and streamline the process for slum lords apparently. I asked to view a house that was on the site for $725 a month for a big two bedroom with a big yard. Looked ok in the ONE PICTURE they provided. When I got there the yard was completely overgrown and inaccessible, the house was falling apart. The floors were ALL different colors and materials. Half the floors weren't even level. The website said the house had electric heat. Then the RAH representative opened a closet and aid oh wait I guess it has oil heat. You can't pay rent with a credit or debit card because their system is antiquated. So you have to go get cash in order to pay your rent. Oh but you can pay online but only if you give them your ROUTING number. Again because their system is ancient and no one there cares about the customers experience. Also RAH has lots of listings on the internet that aren't available anymore. But you can still apply for them online for only FIFTY DOLLARS PER PERSON. Even though the property isn't actually available. Not to mention the fact that all of the listings for 900 a month or less are complete slums. Do yourself a favor and do a Google street view of the street the property is on. I saw one listing for 900 a month. The pictures looked strangely cropped but had central heat and air (something very rare for a property on the RAH site), so I decided to do a street view of it. This place was sandwiched in between TWO abandoned houses. Not only that but the street view cam caught a guy hanging out behind the abandoned house doing whatever it is people do when they hang out behind abandoned houses in bad neighborhoods. Every property they list has the price jacked up(in order to pay for the cost of having a middleman) and many are in terrible condition. So what are you getting for all this extra money spent? Nothing good. The house was in bad shape when I moved it. The baseboard heat didn't work and though I complained about it for years they never had it fixed. The water was tainted and it took them over a year to fix it. The windows were falling apart and didn't hold in any of the air from the window a/c units or any of the heat from the space heaters I had to buy. Oh and the breaker would trip anytime we turned on more than 2 heaters. The house was freezing in the winter and it was nearly impossible to shower because there was no power outlet in the bathroom. Did RAH ever fix it? No, of course not. They get paid to make life easier on the slum lords that buy up cheap properties and refuse to make them decent for fear of no other making as much money. Not losing money mind you but just not making quite as much. Even after the landlord started doing some of the repairs( months or years after I reported them) there were tons of problems. I complained that the windows were so bad that you could feel the cold air coming right through them in the winter. So the landlord says he needs to wait until his tax return comes in before he can afford to do the couple hundred dollars in repairs needed. Then after he finally diddling have the windows fixed in the dead of summer, the window a/c units didn't fit the tiny cheap replacement windows he installed. So he waited over a month to finally replace the window a/c units. Months of no a/c whatsoever in 100 degree temperatures and what does RAH do about it? Nothing.

Negative experience: 0 stars!! Got scammed out of a $100 application fee. Upon submitting the app IN HOUSE the front desk girl African American the only HONEST person iin the building stated they don't receive many applications on the property I was interested in and the rep stated that was her first time showing the property upon her arrival. They called my landlord to verify my rental history she was in a setting where discussing personal info was not an option asked they call back in an hour they never bothered to call back. After 3 days I called to follow up and was told there was an issues verifying my income. The requirements clearly stated they would accept bank statements which i provided more than 6 months worth showing i had the capital to cover the rent. Went into the office with adfitional PROOF of income met with the 13 year old income qualifier who was CLUELESS. I asked if there was an issue why I hadn't received a call IN 3 DAYS to let me know no response!!! They said they needed to be sure I had 3 times the rent in monthly income I said I would not only have 3 times the incime but would do 1 better an give a certified check from my bank for the security deposit AND the FULL 12 month lease amount which would have been nearly $15000.00!!! The office manger and her 13 year old side kick looked confused and very green with envy and said.....they would have to ask the owner IF that was ok!!! SMFH!!!!! If paid in full there is NO RISK nor need to income qualify if the payment can be made all at once but their hate let 15 grand walk out the door and I am certain the PROPERTY OWNER would love to know they are paying a management company to help them LOSE money!!!! The goal of that rental company is to collect as many application fees and make up excuses for denying applucations and keep property owners in payments while turning applicants away who can PAY in order to keep their checks coming in for scamming owners who use their service and rent to people that are not very smart or business savvy who wont question OBVIUOS housing discrimination! If they're not careful they just might find themselves getting sued for such unethical illegal and dishonest housing discrimination!!! Take your money where it's appreciated and it surely isn't at Rent A Home Of The Triad!!!!

Good morning, and thank you for your response. We strive to provide the best service that we can here at Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc. When you came in on Friday we spoke with you and let you know that we simply needed additional documentation to verify your income. Since we do not own any of the rental homes, we have to confirm with the property owner that they are okay with the applications we receive for their home. We never said we were unable to work with you, in fact we would love to help you find your perfect rental. As of now you are still in the running for this property. You have never requested a refund for your application, but we would be happy to offer you one if you prefer, and we can return to you all the documentation you have provided us thus far. Please give us a call at 336-272-0767 and let us know what you would like to do. Thank you.

Positive experience: If you already know that the owner of the property is picky(petty) on the renters they select to rent their property be courteous enough to let the renter know during their walk through of the property so they can decide for themselves if they want to put an application in or not for that particular property. We dont have money to give away, have our time wasted, and our credit report with an unnecessary inquiry. I can understand an owner does not want their property damage or have illegal activities transpiring on their property but everyone has a past and it is not always perfect but people do change. Homeowners that are waiting on that perfect renter to come along will have their property empty for a long time.I wonder how many application fees you have in your bank for renters that were not approved and no other property peaked their interest within two months? Your policies should be revised to return application fees to renters that are not approved after two months or can transfer their application fees to other rental companies that have properties renters are interested in. All rental company are getting wealthy off of other people's misfortunes and have no shame.

Negative experience: Someone at my work looking to move jogged my memory. I wrote a concise review on this same account. It seems to have never made it here even after a few years. Maybe I messed something up posting, but if I did I need to find a new line of work. Let me be the next to clarify any doubts, as my memory of a bad experience I had with these guys is clear enough to not recommend even after a few years. It’s not a grudge. It’s criminal how this was handled with me. So let me be concise with this attempt at a review: If you are ever by any company told that there is such a thing as an ‘unwritten policy’, specifically pertaining to a sum of money, you can rest assured this is bogus. Think about it, when you go buy a car, there are many similarities to this process. As with leasing, there is paperwork involved. So these are equally serious and big decisions. The price of the car cannot simply change. An agreement binds these. And so it is true here, that if they make a mistake, YOU will PAY for that MISTAKE.

Fantastic experience: Had a good experience with them. When I first looked them up I found they have people who own places who want to rent it out and they kinda are the go between for the person who rents and the person who owns...so there is only so much I guess they can do but when I've called they always have help out and got my owner to fix stuff that needed it so IDK they've been fine by me

Negative experience: Awful awful awful company. Worst rental agency I've rented from in the last 15 years. Unfortunately been renting from them for over 3 years. Not a single pleasent interaction, whether it's trying to get a repair or needing customer service because of payment issues. Wish I never rented from them. They have a 2.7 rating for a reason. And it probably should be worse. But you cant give a 0 rating.

Negative experience: UPDATE: Contractually, it does not matter whom you received a deposit from. Contractually (per your contract) security deposit will be returned to TENANT. Tenant being me. If my Mother paid the deposit, would you have called her to give her the money back? Please do not reply with snarky comments as I've noticed that you all do with anyone that has a concern with you all's management style. It's truly unprofessional and before you state that you are sorry that's my perception...Customer Service 101...the Customer's perception is YOUR reality. It would have been best if you would have stuck to stating that the manager would give me a call. As I thoroughly just went over my lease NO WHERE does it state that the deposit goes back to the person that gave it to you. SMH...I am attempting to handle this on my own but from the way this is going and the advice that I'm receiving, I see a lawyer is DEFINETLY going to be needed. I had a lease with Rent a Home Greensboro, with a co-signer. My co-signer decided that she wanted to take over the lease and rent a home rolled over my deposit amount to the co-signer without my permission and then informed me that I need to work it out with her...how does that work? Now that I'm attempting to speak with someone higher up to get answers, I can't get an answer nor a response to a scheduled phone call.

And I still had to call you for you to tell me that you’re not taking anymore applications for the property! Then why are you still sending me information on it! I was on online when you first posted it and immediately attempted to contact you. I see why you have so many negative comments! Just because you’re smart enough to pass a course for real estate don’t mean you have the customer service that can’t be taught, it’s human nature! PLEASE READ THE RATINGS!!!! Negative experience: I wish I could give a 0! I have no idea where to begin! I rented a house on the 10th of August and have filed 7 maintenance complaints in less than a month! No hot water, ac not working, water damage, mold! None of these things were visible when I did my initial walk through. Why they were not throughly checked before I moved in I’m not sure. We all know things can happen but 7! Everyone of them were fixed but I went a week without hot water and a week without ac. They did not make it a top priority in my opinion! I feel that these things should have been handled the same day they were reported. They said “we are trying to help you”. I’m not sure how to respond to that. Helping me would mean going over to meet with the person fixing the house not calling me and leaving a message when I’m at work and can’t answer, to tell me to leave a key for the next day! While all of this is quite upsetting that is not why I give them a 1. I filed a maintenance request about the ac on Wednesday night and asked could they send someone over and just use their key like they did the previous times. When I got out of work there was a message saying they didn’t have a key. I called back wanting to know why they didn’t have a key and no one knew. They had a key and now they didn’t and no one knows where it is. That was disturbing! They gave someone a key to my house to work on it but never made sure it was checked back in. I spoke to the maintenance man Jeff who said he could send someone on Friday if I left my key. I was not comfortable about leaving my key but decided to choose having ac over being comfortable! When I got home on Friday my ac was working but my key was no where to be found! I called Jeff and he said he would get the key situation worked out on MONDAY! The key that I already told him I was worried about leaving! I was finally able to get in touch with the man who did the work on Sunday and he said he took the key to Rent A Home because that’s what he was instructed to do! He sent me a picture of the message that was sent to him that said “when your done run it by Rent A Home sometime over the next day or two”!!! Seriously! Rent a Home lost the key they had and now they have my key and I can’t get it back until Monday. I didn’t find this out until Sunday and I am a single mom. I spent Friday and Saturday night wondering who had my key and maybe I watch too many crime shows but I was not comfortable in my home! Jeff didn’t know and at that point I hadn’t heard from the ac guys so I didn’t know where my key was. On top of all this was the attitude from Jeff that this was not a big deal! I wonder how he would feel if he left his key for someone to work on his house and it wasn’t returned. Does he have a wife or daughter that he would feel comfortable leaving at home knowing his house key was missing? Now there are 2 keys floating around! My dad is going to talk to someone this week about how to hold them accountable or if there is anything we can do. I don’t know if it is a lack of communication or just poor management. Also, telling me you are doing everything you can doesn’t make it true! I wish I had read through these reviews before I rented from here. The responses I’ve seen from Rent A Home on here seem to be completely lacking of any empathy and even accusatory toward the people writing the reviews. I’m not sure what to expect at this point but I would suggest you not deal with this company at all!

Negative experience: When I moved into my house, the grass was around 1.5 feet tall. The bushes were a mess and there were little trees growing out of the side of the front porch. When I moved out, the bushes looked the same and the little trees were still there, but the grass was mowed down to a couple of inches. They took $112 out of my security deposit for not "maintaining" the yard. I did more than maintain the yard. I made it look better. They stole $112 from me because I didn't fix their mess. If you rent with this company, be prepared to not get your whole security deposit back. They apparently like to steal.

Kayla -
The condition/maintenance of the yard and landscaping was notably different from the the move in pictures and the move out pictures. Also, we only charged back a portion of the landscaping invoice. I would be glad to review the pictures and invoice at your convenience and feel our handling of this situation is fair and reasonable.

Negative experience: Sorely lacking in decent customer service and follow through regarding inquiries of available properties. Outdated housing inventory listings on their website means that you waste your time searching and contacting them for information. We even completed and paid for our general application fee yet never heard back confirming that our application was approved or not. Don’t waste your time.

Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc.

Hi, Zoester Productions, and thank you for your comment. We are unable to take a property off the market until we have a signed leased and paid security deposit. Thus there is a little gap between when a property is approved and when it is removed from the website. If you give us a call we are always happy to tell you if the property you are interested in is still available or not. Also we do not have a general application, thus it is not a general yes or no as the final decision is made by the owner of the property you are applying for. I apologize if that process was not made more clearly upfront. We continue to work hard to make sure we provide the best customer service we can! Thank you.

Negative experience: Last week I realised that we had not received rent from our tenants since November. When I called rent-a-home, they said that the tenants moved out in October and that they had relinquished management of the property. They also sent the keys to an unknown location. They had made no effort to contact me about this so it was an unpleasant surprise. This means that my house had been unattended to for five months. When I went to go check on the property, I spoke to the neighbors wondering why the tenants left. They told me that the communication with the rental company was so bad that they could not handle it anymore. They loved the neighborhood, loved the house, and wanted to stay. But rent-a-home practically forced them out. This is a shame as we have trusted this company with our property for years.

Fantastic experience: I stayed in one of the homes managed by Rent a Home for just over a year. The office staff was always helpful and when it came to maintenance requests, I never had a problem. In many of my past experiences with other rental agencies/apartment complexes in Greensboro (cough City View) I had very negative experiences, especially when it came to moving out. With Rent a Home, move out was smooth and the charges that came out of my deposit were understandable and not at an inflated cost. I can’t say I’ve ever gotten my list of final security deposit charges and not been infuriated. Now I can. Great experience overall

Negative experience: I had a very bad experience today during a house showing . The agent name was Deborah she very rude to me . Did not answer any of my questions . She was talking to taking to the current resident whole time . She made me feel like my time wasn't important to her . I also call the office ask to speak to the manager no one has call me back . I really feel like this company should do some improvement on their customer service skills . Also feel you should never make make a potential Customer feel like their business is not wanted . Negative experience: UPDATE: Since my last entry I have received several calls from Rent-a-Home management including an extension for our vacate-notice approved by the landlord. Thank you, we certainly appreciate that! ------------------------------- We just got a 30-Day notice to vacate our apartment. Our lease is up next month and we can't find the original contract we signed. We have grown attached to this apartment and I feel frustrated that it was not our original understanding intention to live here for only a year when we rented out this unit. Our experience with this company has been increasingly distressing over the past few months. When we first moved in we had a great experience with this company. The first few weeks, maintenance orders were done promptly and very professionally. As the months went by, they took longer and longer to address small maintenance issues (i.e. running toilets, clogged food disposals, screen window's holes). We also had the uncomfortable experience of having to live without hot water for a week, due to the unit's water heater being so old and in need of replacement. During that time, management stated that it was our responsibility to have renters insurance if we needed to find a hotel for a few nights. I felt as if we were being blamed for this issue. When Disaster One came, they quickly evaluated that it was not our fault that the water heater was not replaced in a more timely manner. They fixed the damage on our unit and the one below, but the old water heater is still there... This notice-to-vacate scared us and it felt like our landlord was just in a hurry to kick us out so he could sell the apartment. But I guess it is the law in NC that if you have rented for less than a year you are susceptible to a 30-day notice-to-vacate. We never thought it would happen to us. The notice we received itself doesn't even explain a reason for this procedure to take place. Only after I called in I learned that the landlord had decided to sell the condo. I felt confused as to why the landlord wouldn't try to give any kind of explanation or prior notice to this legal document about his intentions to sell and vacate us when we are not students or people who move around a lot. I am unsure what is going to happen. I feel angry that a company would enforce a contract pressuring tenants to move out and change their housing needs on what seems to me like an unreasonable amount of time. Maybe we are just not good movers, but I felt cheated and very powerless today dealing with their manager. I wouldn't recommend this business. At least not as a tenant.

Negative experience: First and foremost, all the bad reviews they have on facebook, they had either deleted or his them. I know i posted a review and its missing. Nothing but trouble. I shouldve paid attention to the many bad reviews. When I first looked at the residence I am staying in now, I was misled by information and cancelled viewings from the lady showing the property. When I did view it, she just stood there on her phone. But in such a rush to relocate for my job, I signed the lease anyway. I shouldve kept commuting to sace myself the headache a d credit. Too many people saying what to do all at one time it's confusing on who to believe (this also includes the owners). Some workers are Unprofessional, unreliable, and rude. Beautiful property. Horrible company. The negligence of the company, will cost you a great amount of money. They approached me as some deadbeat tenant when apparently im not. My past landlord of 3 years confirmed i wasn't. When you pay your rent and your fees, they will disperse them any way they see fit to add more charges to you. They do not respond to emails or phone calls in any sort of timely matter. Even after i paid my rent (which i told them i was) they sent me to court. The lady told me not to show up because my case would be dismissed if i paid. Low and behold, she was there and said she "didnt recall" me making a payment. Smh.... please run. Fast

Negative experience: Dunt trust them , they lie about doing their maintenance, we had an issue with our fire place , that they in our face said that they not gonna do it , and we had an issue with the insulation under the house , that we didn’t know about it until our gas bill went sky rocket , and when we complained about it they said that it’s been done , and when we looked under the house to check and we found that it was never been done , they came the second day and put a lock on the crawl space door , all they care about is their commission from the owners !!! Stay away from them , can’t wait until my lease is over !

Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc.
Rent-A-Home of the Triad, Inc.

We respectfully appreciate your feedback. Regarding the insulation, we received the initial service request on 12-21-17 regarding the insulation in the crawl space. This work order was completed on/before 12-26-17. A follow up service request for the same issue was received on 2-20-18 and was completed on/before 2-26-18. A lock was placed on the crawl space door to prevent further intrusion.

Regarding the fireplace, we contacted the owner (not Rent A Home) regarding the request to replace or remove the gas fireplace insert. The owner decided to not replace the gas fireplace insert due to cost and opted to not remove the insert/convert back to a wood burning fireplace due to safety concerns.

I have spoken to the co-tenant regarding these matters on several occasions and would be glad to discuss further at your convenience.

Respectfully,

Negative experience: Homeowners looking to rent out their property need to be warned. There is a major lack of communication with this company. My renter was supposed to move in on a Friday. I had not heard anything from them, so I called the following Monday to be told that my renter had actually moved in on the Wednesday before (which is fine unless I had decided to do one last walk through Thursday night). No apology or explanation and it wasn't until later that day that I received the paperwork from his move-in. When my renter moved to another state and did not pay rent, they did not let me know. I had to continuously contact them to find out what was happening with my property. Finally, when everything was settled I had to call back (and purposefully waited a week to see if they would contact me) to make sure everything was done and find out if I could pick up my keys. From beginning to end and everything in between, I did not feel like this company kept me updated with my own property and would strongly advise perspective clients to look elsewhere for a property management company.
