The Highlands: Reviews
Positive experience: it is a very cute place and the management is good at keeping people informed of changes and whatnot the only complaint is maintenance is a bit slow
Thank you for your feedback! We're glad to hear that you enjoy our property and that our management keeps you informed. We apologize for any delays in maintenance and are working to improve our response times.
Positive experience: Staff is helpful and welcoming, the area is fairly quiet and not too many complaints to be honest! Overall great price for amenities included as well.
Thank you for the kind words! We strive to provide great service and a peaceful environment for our customers. We're glad to hear you're enjoying our amenities.
Negative experience: Terribly high prices for the outdated and disgusting apartments. Multiple missing or broken items when I moved in and the carpet flooring was crusty and my shower drain was clogged full of hair. Only positive is the maintenance is usually very fast and helpful. Building was outdated and they had to replace all CO2 detectors only because the fire department got notified and turns out my apartment didn’t even actually have one and they had to install it. The printer in the computer room would never connect to the computers to be able to print papers when I’ve tried multiple times. Not worth nearly $1,000 in rent payments each month.
Thank you for sharing your experience. We apologize for any inconveniences and will work to address them with our team. We are glad that our maintenance was helpful. Please feel free to reach out to management directly if you would like to discuss this further.
Fantastic experience: Absolutely love the Highlands in Reno! I move in August and I can’t wait. Their customer service is incredible!

We are glad to hear that you are enjoying your time here! Thank you for taking the time to share your experience!
Fantastic experience: Overall the hospitality and care from the staff is incomparable to the other student housing. When I moved in there were a few things out of place with my room and the property manager was very kind and they came and spoke to me personally and fixed it. The maintenance staff is very kind and always eager to help, we are very thankful for their attentiveness to any maintenance issues. It is very clean and quiet. I love the garden style housing because I feel like it’s more adult-like than other nearby living.
Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! We truly appreciate your kind words about our staff and are so glad to hear that your move in concerns were handled quickly and personally. Thank you for choosing our community, we’re grateful to have you here!
Fantastic experience: Accommodation is very comfortable, any problems we have had regarding utilities etc have been dealt with promptly and effectively. I enjoy the competitions and events they organize, they make the experience very interactive.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been living at the Highlands apartments for two years now, and I honestly couldn’t ask for a better apartment community. The staff goes above and beyond, communication is clear, and any issues are handled fast. The property is beautiful, well maintained, and feels safe and welcoming. It truly feels like home, and that’s rare to find when renting. I’m so glad I chose to live here!
Thank you so much for your kind words! We take great pride in creating a welcoming and comfortable community for our residents. It's been our pleasure to have you as a resident of our community for the past two years. Thank you for choosing the Highlands apartments as your home!
Fantastic experience: The highlands is one of the better living options near UNR in my experience. The apartment is nice and well furnished and more affordable than the other apartments near campus. It’s gated and I’ve never had issues with safety. Additionally, maintenance has always helped fast.
Thank you for choosing The Highlands as your living option near UNR! We’re excited to hear that our apartments meet your needs. Our maintenance team is always happy to assist with any needs.
Fantastic experience: I highly recommend The highlands for my granddaughter"s new living space as she continues her Education. My search for a place ended with the leasing Agent Eric.He was amazing as well as so polite with all the questions I had.Eric had the answers I Thank Eric and all the mangers for all the help and answered questions I highly recommend this property with the excellent staff.I Thank you all so much. Holly Ignarro
Thank you for your kind words, Holly! We are so glad to hear that Eric went above and beyond to assist you during your search for your granddaughter's new living space. Thank you for choosing The Highlands and recommending us to others!
Positive experience: Since the management change, most things have become more disorganized. Communication regarding leasing is inconsistent, and while rates have increased, the overall quality seems to have declined. The maintenance team is very attentive and responsive, but seem limited by upper management when it comes to what can be addressed. For example, my unit’s washer and dryer have been problematic throughout my two years here and have yet to be replaced. Security doesn’t seem to be the best as my room mate had his motorbike stolen and the cameras, according to management, caught nothing of the incident. The gates are open during daytime every day except Sundays and have been known to get stuck open throughout the night. The parking situation doesn't usually have problems, however it's common to find the lot filled when an event is going on nearby. The Highlands does occasionally put out deals, but getting a hold of these deals can be frustrating. Emails often go unanswered until said promotions are already expired resulting in having to go in person to get something figured out. Brian along with other maintenance team members have been extremely helpful and are my main reason for renewing for my second year. Given the rates, The Highlands is not a bad place to stay at all in the end. It is conveniently located and walkable for UNR students. The internet is very fast and dumpster areas are usually kept tidy.
Thank you for your review. We apologize for any inconsistencies and inconveniences you have experienced since our management change. We appreciate your feedback and are working on improving our communication and overall quality. We are glad our maintenance team has been helpful and please reach out to us directly to address any concerns. We strive to provide a convenient and comfortable living experience for our residents.
Negative experience: Living at The Highlands has been a negative experience from the moment I moved in. Management and staff consistently avoid addressing important issues and show little to no concern for their residents. Problems are ignored rather than resolved, which makes it clear they don’t care about the well-being or comfort of the people who live here. The entire experience has been frustrating, and I can’t wait to move out in July!!
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations. Please feel free to reach out to us directly so we can address your concerns.
Negative experience: Horrible time living there. Do not come here. This place will trap you and force you to pay a months worth of rent including a move out fee of another month of rent if you decide to move out early. I understand that's usually customary but I am for some reason continuing to be forced to pay rent even though I moved out and signed the move out forms. So I've paid for 3 months worth of rent total not including a false charge for January that took over a week to sort out. Even paying for utilities I didn't use. They won't help you find someone to re-lease your place and you're forced to do it on your own. They are unhelpful and it's better to find somewhere else to live. Also they say they're a gated community but the fence burned down and it took nearly 6 months for them to rebuild it allowing people to just walk inside. My place flooded and they didn't help clean it even though it was their washer machine that broke in apparently a very common way. They didn't replace the washer machine. Someone was shot outside my apartment as well. There's fireworks constantly and I once had someone throw stuff at my window and the apartments barley did anything about it. Terrible experience. DO NOT RENT FROM HERE I do understand some of this is standard stuff but in my experience they take it to an extreme most other places don't take it
Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry to hear that your time with our community did not meet expectations. While we strive to address resident concerns in accordance with our policies and lease agreements, we understand your frustration and appreciate you taking the time to provide this feedback. Please reach out to us at (775) 348-2005 so we can address these concerns.
Fantastic experience: Brian was a great help! Our sink wasn’t working and he fixed it in less than 10 mins! Thanks Brian!!
Thank you for the kind feedback! We’re glad to hear Brian was able to assist you quickly and get your sink fixed. We’ll be sure to share your appreciation with him!
Negative experience: Oven broken and didn’t get deposit back as promised. Won’t answer phone. Update. Eventually recovered my deposit after numerous phone calls. Regardless, why was the oven broken before I even moved in?
Edsel, we regret to hear that you had a negative experience with us, but would appreciate the chance to turn your experience around. Our manager has tried reaching out and would really like to speak with you more regarding this matter. Please reach out to her via her cellphone or contact us at (775) 348-2005. Fantastic experience: Hi! I actually live at the Republic, but our office called the Highlands for a maintenance person to fill in. So they sent Garrett, who is literally amazing. Super professional and effortlessly fixed like four things in one day, that we’ve been waiting several weeks for. Garrett was knowledgeable, sweet, and super fun! 10/10
Thank you so much for your review! We’re happy to hear Garrett was able to assist and get everything taken care of so quickly at The Republic! We appreciate you sharing your experience, and if you ever need anything, we’re always here to help!
Fantastic experience: I live at The Republic Apartments, we had maintenance done over and over on some of the same issues from our maintenance team, but Garrett from the highlands showed up to help and figured out the problems in genuinely 2 minutes flat.
Thank you for sharing your experience! We are thrilled to hear that Garrett resolved your maintenance issues!
Fantastic experience: Brian and cecil do an awesome job. They are courteous, professional and help with any maintenance issues asap.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We’re grateful to have Brian and Cecil on our team, and we’re glad to hear they were able to assist you quickly and professionally. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience!
Negative experience: Apartment safety is low on their list! They had 10 CO monitors going off in the same building and they refused to send a professional to look at the heaters to see if there’s a CO leak. The manager refused to give the information for her supervisor. The manager blamed low batteries on the CO devices. So, 10 different units had their batteries go out the same day. I installed a brand new CO monitor, and the independent unit was going off. Management will be held responsible if anything happens from their gross negligence! A bird could have built a nest in the vent, and that is enough to backdraft CO gas. But, management wants to avoid spending money to have the building inspected.
Hello Dave, thank you for sharing your concerns. We take all safety issues seriously. When the initial requests came in, our team inspected the units and confirmed the detectors were signaling low-battery end of life, not an active CO alert.
That same evening, NV Energy and the fire department completed independent inspections and found no carbon monoxide or gas leaks. Since many detectors were installed around the same time, several reached end-of-life together, which caused multiple chirping units.
Resident safety is our priority. If you’d like to discuss further, please contact the office.
Fantastic experience: Jackson did a great job at replacing our washer and dryer!
Kylah Jackson, Thank you for sharing this experience with us! It makes me happy to hear that Jackson has created a moment that stood out for you as exceptional service. We will be sure to share your feedback with them and the entire team - KUDOS! We are always here to help so please never hesitate to reach out! - Have a great day! - Your The Highlands Team, (775) 386-6382, .

Positive experience: Really nice amenities and location. My roommates are everything I asked for. People at the front office are really cool, they would only need to make sure about certain informations about rent and stuffs like that, but they are always really nice to me
We’re so glad to hear that you’re enjoying the amenities, location, and your roommates—it sounds like everything is going great! Our front office team is always here to help and truly appreciates your feedback.
Fantastic experience: My first year at the highlands! I’ve had to put in maintenance requests and they are usually fulfilled quick and easily! The front desk people are always helpful. The amenities they have to offer are enough for me. My apartment has a great view of downtown. Overall, I am happy with my choice of picking the highlands!
Thank you so much for your kind review of The Highlands! We’re happy to hear that our maintenance team has been quick to help and that our front desk staff has made your experience a positive one.
Fantastic experience: Fantastic place to live. They take care of the property very well and the maintenance is always available. Would recommend
Thank you for your kind words! We’re glad to hear you’ve had a great experience and appreciate your recommendation!
Fantastic experience: great student accomodation. i am living here for one year and it is in great proximity to the university- about a 15 minute walk to the school of medicine. great facilities and gym which is rarely too busy so it saves having to walk to campus to use the gym there. it is a lovely layout and has plenty of green spaces and trees.
Thank you for your review! We’re glad to hear you’re enjoying the convenient location, our facilities, and the green spaces. We appreciate you taking the time to share your experience.
Positive experience: Amazing maintenance crew! Every time we see them they are so kind and helpful! Shout out to Garrett! Only issue was it was dirty when we moved in, which I believe they are working to remedy for the years coming. Nice leasing staff and good community. Request: open the hot tub again!!
Thank you for your kind words and valuable feedback. We’re delighted to hear about your positive experiences with our maintenance and leasing teams. We also want to let you know that we plan to reopen the hot tub soon!
Positive experience: a guy got shot outside my apartment and the plumbing backed up and my bathtub filled with pee. close to campus tho
We’re sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you sharing. Please contact us directly so we can discuss and address your concerns.
Negative experience: You’re better off living at the Edison for pretty much the same price with a roommate (you’re going to have roommates here, matching system is the same as the dorms, and you don’t get to choose your unit.) and much better quality in both management, apartment, and amenities.
Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry your experience didn’t meet expectations and appreciate your input. We’re always looking to improve and welcome residents to reach out with any concerns.
Fantastic experience: the maintenance guy jackson detken came to fix our sink, he was super responsive and nice to talk too. he fixed the problem super quick while explaining what is was that happened. we also talked about anime! overall super cool dude and great at what he does
Thank you for sharing your experience with our maintenance team! We're happy to hear that he provided great service while also taking the time to explain the issue and bond over a shared interest in anime. We will be sure to pass your message along to him.
Negative experience: If you want a roof over your head. But other than that this place is NOT GOOD It is just another student housing but legally unaffiliated with UNR. The apartments are average at best. One issue I have with them the most is their communication and their overall handle of any incident. First, one thing that’s been consistently repeated and is one of the first things that comes up when you talk to a leasing agent/representative is that this is a gated community. While, yes, it does have a gate, but throughout the day the gate remains open and at night no one is seen in the “security box” they have up front. Second, early this year (2025), there was a brushfire directly next to the property. It was so bad to the point where it burnt down a good chunk of the fence surrounding the property. By chunk, I mean several yards, and they were all cut down. That by itself is fine, what was disappointing was that they 1. Did not notify the residents at all - and even if they did, it was to the complexes directly next to said fence. 2. Been months since the fire and did not make an attempt to fix it or put up a temporary fence in place of it. There is NO point in advertising this place as a “gated community” if there is a large gap between the fences. Additionally, there is a bus stop for UNR buses to pick up students (which is not free ~$180 for the pass and parking permit). The bus stop’s light had been broken for the entire time I have lived here, which would be around 2 years. At night, there were no lights illuminating the surrounding area. I (and others) have never understood why there was such a delay in fixing it, as it is a popular spot for residents to get picked up by uber/taxi/friends. As soon as a shooting incident occurred, they decided to replace 3 of 4 lights. There are no readily provided emergency number. Referring to the incident a couple days ago where a man who was a resident here was shot several times within the property and later passed. It was not until over 12/13 hours later (it occurred at around 7:30pm) where they announced the incident. Had I still had issues with my email not being properly registered to the apartment system, I would not have known and if it were to be a mass/targeted shooting, several residents could have been affected as it was early in the night. If the fences were fixed, the shooter would have been caught by now. Each unit has one thing that’s different: desks do not match (one person could get a green desk and the other a brown desk with no compartment space, mirror closet doors or white - not off white, like printer paper white closet doors), the gate breaks all the time, and when it doesn’t it’s either one side opens up and you have to shimmy through or back up and realign. They looove to act like the HOA, but gives next to nothing in return. You cannot have air drying clothes in the balcony. You cannot have decorations/items that are not part of the season out on the balcony. No bikes in the patio. No grills. On paper, no guns are allowed on the premises but there are several people who prop their shot gun in the back of their truck over the summer/hunting season. Management sucks, (not the maintenance! they are great ❤️) they barely answer calls and and the person at the front desk is almost always some 20yr old that does not answer questions or gives you an answer in a way that shuts any other follow up questions down.
Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We’re sorry to hear about your experience and appreciate you bringing these concerns to our attention. We’d like the opportunity to discuss these issues further and see how we can make things right. Please reach out to our team directly at so we can address your concerns.

Negative experience: I dont even know where to begin. My daughter due to an unfortunate and scary situation, that being sexually assaulted while in reno, made the decision to come back home as she has no family in reno and was studying up there. We reached out to the Highlands to see if any way they will allow her out of her contract due to the situation. Police nor school police was able to help file because my daughter had no way identifying the pos who did this. So i reach out to the Highlands , explain the situation as hard as it to speak on , to see if theres anything they can do to help us at the very least get out of the contract. They say No. only way is to find someone to take over her lease. My daughter moved back home, transferred out of UNR and after MONTHS trying to find someone to take over her lease we FINALLY found someone interested who then goes in to check out the apartments only for the Highlands leasing staff to then SELL HER a different option , waived all kinds of fees and offered her an even lower rate. They have ZERO REMORSE for this particular situation. This is the 2nd person we have sent in and somehow walks away with their own lease. I question their morality because how can someone KNOWING the situation take advantage of something like this. I cannot for the life of me understand this. Shows just how little compassion exists over GREED AND MONEY. They care more about getting oaid on this 12 month lease that will not even be used over someones life! *Update* The new Regional director reached out , as this is a newly acquired property and was unaware of the situation. I am so thankful for her understanding of the severity of this matter. She truly is heaven sent & one my family will forever be grateful for
Thank you for sharing your experience. We apologize for any lack of compassion or understanding you may have felt. We’re thankful that our new Regional Manager was able to step in and provide the support and care you needed. Your feedback reminds us of the importance of compassion, and we’re committed to doing better for our residents and their families.
Negative experience: Avoid at all costs. Most scummy people I have ever had the displeasure of talking to. They will nickel and dime you to oblivion. Ended up being charged over 500 dollars in fees after moving out because of things that were out of my control. When I called the property manager she says she has no control over the arbitrary fees a received. Additionally saying there is nobody I can call or contact other than the parent company peak made, which proved themselves to be more useless than the highlands. Overall terrible experience here. maintenance people will walk inside of your room while your sleeping with no regard for your personal privacy whatsoever. Yes they really did that. Apartment was trash too. Vents leak, units smell bad, appliances were old and faulty. it is almost impossible to cook in the units due to extremely sensitive smoke alarms. Bathrooms were moldy upon move in. I could go on. Had several roommate issues throughout my time here and needles to say the leasing staff does not care. They will never take any action if you end up having issues. This place is not worth it and there are better options in this area for far cheaper. Most likely going to have to take this to the Better Business Bureau. Good luck if you end up living here.

Fantastic experience: I lived at The Highlands in Reno for two years and had a great experience from start to finish. I never had any issues during my time there, and whenever I needed something fixed, maintenance was quick to respond. The office ladies, especially Alex and Abby, were extremely inviting and friendly, and always willing to help with whatever I needed, especially during the move out process. I loved the open layout of the complex, which felt more spacious and inviting compared to other places in the area. Being able to have a pet and take my dog for walks right outside my apartment was convenient. Free parking was a huge plus, and I frequently used and enjoyed the amenities. The rent was also extremely reasonable compared to nearby residences. Overall, it was a comfortable and enjoyable place to live, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable and reliable apartment in Reno.
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're happy to hear that you had a great experience living at The Highlands. Our team works hard to provide amazing service and make our residents feel at home. We're glad to hear that our open layout, pet-friendly policy, and amenities added to your overall enjoyment. Thank you for recommending us to others! We appreciate your support!
Negative experience: terrible apartments to stay at. if you are going to the college I SUGGEST YOU GO TO A DIFFERENT APARTMENT COMPLEX. they don’t care about you or your needs. all they want is money. i don’t live there no more…but somehow i gotta pay yall 4k….HAAHHA DUMB PPL YALL WILL NEVER SEE THAT
Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We want to provide excellent service and apologize for any inconvenience you may have encountered. We'll use your feedback to improve and ensure that all of our residents are taken care of.
Negative experience: Thought I should send my genuine honest review. I lived at The Highlands for two years. I moved in a few days after the initial move-in date, so my roommate’s mom went to check on my room to make sure it was okay before I moved in. The carpets were absolutely filthy and there were literal feces floating in the toilet before I moved in. Thankfully they came to thoroughly clean the room before I got there but it took someone else to tell them to clean the room the day I was supposed to move in. The staircases were absolutely filthy, covered in trash juices, spilt drinks, cigarettes, etc. making the community absolutely disgusting. There was also a rotting pumpkin on the grass launched off someone’s balcony in October until they did their annual landscaping in May to catfish people into thinking they keep up with the cleanliness of the property. On top of that, the toilet was continuously running so I put in a maintenance request in August 2023. It took until my room flooding as a result of their negligence in October for them to actually come in and fix the toilet. Then, it took over three weeks and continuous begging to replace the carpet to avoid mold for them to fix the damages that resulted from the flood. Not only that, but my room had 3 hot continuous fans blowing for over a week making it unbearable to sleep in and the bathroom unusable. They then tried to move me into another apartment with another gender with a shared bathroom, which I was not accepting of. Some random lady checking smoke detectors in the apt barged into my room without knocking while I was asleep despite my roommate telling her that I was in the room. Everything else was alright until the second year I lived there. I was having issues with their provided dresser for months on end, being physically unable to open it to access my clothes. I put in over 7 maintenance requests in the span of a year just to fix the dresser for them to come in, retrack it, and then leave because that was all they were allowed to do without permission. It wasn’t until I was told a month before moving out that the issue was the track itself. I was then told that I had to personally ask the community manager to replace the plastic track. She then responds to me in a one sentence email that I have to pay to get it replaced when it was an underlying issue. After I told her I wasn’t going to pay for it because I didn’t break it and the issue was that the 200lb dresser was being supported by some cheap plastic tracks. She then proceeded to charge my account after my refusal to pay for an overpriced 2$ plastic home depot track that can’t support the weight of a 15 year old 200lb wooden dresser just to be able to access my clothes. Aside from maintenance, I also had some issues with the professionalism of the community manager herself. After issues with the reletting fee (being quoted $300 in December and then told $820 in April), Christina was extremely rude and unprofessional during the entirety of our encounters to the point where I had to escalate the matter to reach out to the regional manager to handle things in a professional & realistic manner. Other than that, the only real positives were that the balcony was nice, the leasing girls (Cassie, Sydney, Alex, Abby) were always very kind and knowledgeable, the maintenance staff were great and tried their best to help me out to the best of their ability (Brian and Diego), free parking, and lots of greenery compared to other apts. TLDR: Don’t live here unless you absolutely cannot afford anything else. Apartment comes with old cheap furniture and you’re expected to pay for their repairs even though they probably need to be replaced. Maintenance is always busy due to how many requests they have due to how crappy the appliances are so it may take weeks or months to get to you. Community manager is always on a power trip & doesn’t take students seriously. Students are being milked of random fees and unnecessary expenses. Nasty hallways and walkways. Great leasing & maintenance staff. Would still never recommend though.
Nezha Idrissi - I'm disappointed to hear you had a negative experience at our community. If there's anything else you'd like to share, please don't hesitate to contact us directly. Thanks for taking the time to let us know how we can improve. Your feedback matters, and we hope you'll consider us again in the future. All the best to you.
Negative experience: Horrible place. After you move out, you are billed for things that were damaged prior to you moving in. Even had pictures to prove the damaged things prior to moving in. The stairwells never were cleaned. Just filthy. Don't replace furnace filters. Stay away.
Kimberly Riggle - I'm disappointed to hear you had a negative experience at our community. If there's anything else you'd like to share, please don't hesitate to contact us directly.
Negative experience: The pool has been broken all year even though they still advertise like that have one. half the stuff in my unit has been broken all year too.
Hi Ryan Andrews - we regret to hear you were displeased with your recent experience at The Highlands. Please feel free to get in touch if you'd like to discuss it with us directly.
Fantastic experience: Brian was amazing in helping us with some fridge issues. He came over very fast (we called late at night) and solved the issue very quickly! Even followed up to make sure everything was running smoothly again.
Nicole Woolley, we're happy you found our staff to be so supportive during your experience here at The Highlands. Hope we can be of assistance to you in the future! Best wishes from The Highlands.
Fantastic experience: The staff here have been wonderful and exceptionally kind. Anytime I have any issues, the leasing office has provided me with the information I needed and helped to their full ability. Even the Maintenance workers at this apartment do a wonderful job in making sure everything's running smoothly. Gotta give credit to Cassie (a leasing office workers) and Bryan (a maintenance worker) for always being on top of their game.
Hey Behr Holmes - our pleasure! Happy you had a great experience. We're always here for you! If you ever need anything else, just give us a call or stop by. Have an awesome day!
Fantastic experience: I ended up living at the highlands out of random apartment searching and in visiting many of the other apartments around UNR I would say that the quality and experience of living here have been pleasant and fair. I’ve found that the biggest virtue of living here has been the open layout of the apartment, with open areas of green grass and instant access to the outside areas make it feel much more homely. My roommates and I are also incredibly grateful to the staff and maintenance team who are consistently pleasant to engage with and helpful with whatever issues we have, we recently had an entire dishwasher replaced which we are also incredibly thankful for, with the help of Brian the technician who oversaw the repairs.
We're thrilled to hear you had such a great experience! It's our pleasure to assist! Let us know if anything else comes up, and take care.
Fantastic experience: Brian came to fix our sink and washer right away and super quickly. He’s super nice and explains things. You can tell he knows what he’s doing and is very professional. In my opinion one of the best maintenance guys on property!
Dianna Moran - thanks for letting us know we went beyond expectations! We'll be sure to share with the team here at The Highlands! Hope to see you soon, Dianna!
Fantastic experience: Maintenance is always on time and friendly. Bryan has handled multiple maintenance requests for us in the 6 months I have been here, and it is always done quickly.
Adam Mcgoff - you're our first priority! We're happy our team members went beyond expectations for you here at The Highlands. Hope we can be of assistance to you in the future!
Positive experience: Brian from maintnence is awesome. Super kind, friendly, and gets the job done.
Cam Beckwith - thanks for letting us know we went beyond expectations! We'll be sure to share with the team here at The Highlands! Have a great day!
Fantastic experience: Brian was very efficient and kind while helping me with my issue
Cc Andoo - thanks for letting us know we went beyond expectations! We'll be sure to share with the team here at The Highlands! Have a great day!
Fantastic experience: Bryan was super sweet and nice. Was in and out super quick having fixed two of my roommates sinks. He knew what he was doing and was very considerate of the pets. If you put in a maintenance request, I hope Bryan is the one to fix it.
Edward Roloson - you're our first priority! We're happy our team members went beyond expectations for you here at The Highlands. Can't wait to see you again - until next time, take care!
Fantastic experience: I’ve lived here for three semesters and it’s great. The staff are really nice and helpful. No complaints so far. Would highly recommend
Hey Sam - our pleasure! Happy you had a great experience. Hope to see you soon!
Fantastic experience: Brian on the maintenance team came super fast and was able to fix the heater no problem, thank you!
Heidi - you're our first priority! We're happy our team members went beyond expectations for you here at The Highlands. If you ever need anything else, just give us a call or stop by. Have an awesome day!
Negative experience: I have lived here for almost 2 years now. If you are thinking about living here, please take the time to read this and consider the following before signing.: - Fire Extinguishers and Fire alarms are not checked regularly. A candle had started an oil fire and extinguisher did not work. After checking the tag, It had not been replaced or checked since it was installed. - Mold in bathrooms, and behind dishwasher. I had mold in my shower, and behind dishwasher. I reported this at least once a month and nothing was done about it. These issues also bring mosquitoes and other bugs that will infest your living area. - Not Pet friendly. Staff has no knowledge about animals and will not take proper precautions before entry. 2 days after move-in there was a complaint about my dog, and they gave me less than 24 hours to relocate him. I was still charged a pet fee for the month and charged $250. - Appliances break at least once a month, and maintenance doesn't come for weeks. They do not respond to maintenance calls regardless of the severity (flooding, electrical issues, etc.). - They offer "discounted rates" to people who renew their lease, but offer a cheaper rate to new signers in the summer/ right before move in. - Package room is a mess and Staff is not helpful. They stress the importance of putting the proper building number on the package address, but they are never in the correct bin. When staff is asked about the package, they ask if you have checked every bin, or direct you to a pile of packages that have been properly labeled (just not put away). The Highlands does not care about your general health and safety and will only respond to phone calls about new signers. Please keep in mind that this is not just student housing and your neighbor/ randomly assigned roommate can be someone of any age or gender. This review is not an invitation to the owner to defend their poor treatment of the tenants, but instead a warning for future signers.
Hello Gabriela,
Thank you for your review, we would like to address each item brought to our attention. The fire extinguishers and alarms are checked annually per state requirements. Mildew buildup happens in the shower when residents do not use their fan while showering. This can be fixed by simply putting in a work order and our maintenance team will take care of this! We do not see any active work orders on the account for things listed. As for pets we are pet friendly however, when a dog bites 2 people it is considered aggressive and has to be removed from property. Our maintenance team responds accordingly to emergencies and handles work orders in the order that they are submitted to the system. Specials are run sporadically throughout the leasing season. Rates when we launch are the lowest that we are aware of however, pricing is subject to change at any time. The package room is cleaned up daily before we close as package carriers are in and out throughout the day logging packages. If residents cannot find a package, they let us know in the office and we check before the end of day and follow up with the resident if their package is in the package room. We respond to everyone accordingly. As per fair housing laws we lease to anyone who qualifies. We try our best to match accordingly based on your preferences you fill out in your application and only match coed if resident is okay with it and list that they are okay with it on their preference form.
We are happy to assist you if there are any issues that you feel have not been addressed. Please contact our front office via phone at 775-348-2005 or email us at [email protected] so we can assist you.
Thank you,
The Highlands Management Team
Negative experience: Do not rent here. They will say whatever they need to get you to sign the lease. Unit laundry is broken weeks at a time. Broken smoke alarms. Too many issues to name.
John Vittorino - thanks so much for taking time to let us know about your experience. We're disappointed to hear you weren't satisfied, and may reach out for some more details so we can do better next time.
Negative experience: If you are a parent looking into the highlands for your child in college. PLEASE take the time to read this, and make sure you’re informed of your rights as a renter in Nevada before signing anything. I’ve been paired with roommates over the years that have violated lease rules, including letting strangers SLEEP in my room and commit theft while I was on vacation. This is was in fall of ‘20. Very little was done in response. I understand it may be under new management but it’s been increasingly worse. Every year, the smallest floor plan available that I rent for over $700 is offered at a discounted rate to new tenants while mine gets increased. Lastly, I paid a large deposit in the form of the last two months rent when moving in, as I didn’t have credit, and it’s being disregarded now even after reaching out ahead of time with the proper documentation in hand. Please practice caution and look for a better community.
I'm disappointed to hear this about your experience at The Highlands, and will share your feedback with the team so we can take the opportunity to improve. We hope the issues with your deposit were resolved to your satisfaction and we have contacted you directly. If you need further assistance, please contact our office at 775-348-2005. Have a great day!
Negative experience: This place is a joke. Don't bother calling the office once you live there, they won't answer the phone unless you hide your number so it looks like a potential new renter and more money for them. Then today was just the cherry on top, water was out early this morning, I never received the email they claimed to have sent out notifying residents, but I did receive an email just now letting me know the water may be out until 10pm tonight. A whole day without running water, are you serious? We can get bottled for drinking but we are still unable to shower. This place will find new ways to disappoint you every few months.
Hannah Kingsland - thanks so much for taking time to let us know about your experience. We're disappointed to hear you weren't satisfied, and may reach out for some more details so we can do better next time.
Negative experience: DO NOT LIVE HERE - maintenance is horrible (water and power shut downs for the whole day), your maintenance requests will never be met and things are constantly breaking - communication between residents and the front office is horrendous - I signed for $750 and am now being charged $890/month - location is far from campus with plenty of potholes and road closures/construction on the way here - the pool is rarely open and usually green - the furniture provided is extremely uncomfortable and unwelcoming -free parking you just have to hope your car won’t get broken into - maintenance came to do routine fire alarm inspection and instead of replacing it they simply removed the alarm which is a huge safety hazard Overall, save your time, money, and energy by simply finding a different complex to live in
Hi Kiana Ponce - we regret to hear you were displeased with your recent experience at The Highlands. Please feel free to get in touch if you'd like to discuss it with us directly so we can make it right.
Fantastic experience: Super friendly staff! Sydney was very helpful with the leasing process and made it very easy.
So good to hear from you! Thanks for letting us know. Have a great day!
Fantastic experience: The apartment itself is really cute and homey. I was excited about the prospect of my daughter moving in here as the price seemed better than other places, but then they hit you with extra fees left and right and they promise Gift Cards that they just keep saying, “are on their way”. Furthermore, I have called and emailed about the card as well as some extra charges and no one ever calls or emails back. I TRULY hope they come through so that I can say that one UNR student housing location is not a racket. So far…it’s not looking good. I will update this post IF they give my daughter the Gift Card and if they ever call or email me back about the nickel and dime charges. ***UPDATE*** the apartment did end up giving the gift card as promised and though they were a tad rude about it at times “we never promised a certain date” (said snarkily by front desk person) they came through and that’s what matters to me in the end!! Changing to 4 stars. ****2nd Update** after the year of living in this unit, my daughter has had an overall pleasant experience. I admit to being suspicious of everything due to being burned by other student apts, but Highlands has consistently done what they have said they would do which, is really so much of what makes the experience positive. Sydney and Hailey were sweet and understanding per my daughter. Phew.

Fantastic experience: I was new to the west coast a year ago and decided to move here for a while after a short visit, as an online student through an out of state university I was able to afford living here. Since I’ve been here I’ve met a lot of people who are familiar with the highlands and some of them have had less than ideal experiences, mostly related to bad roommates. Personally, I have had a really good experience, communication with the front office has been quick and clear. I have had no issues so far that were not resolved.
Hi Ezra Robichaud, thank you so much for your positive comments about The Highlands! We are always more than happy to assist you if anything else comes up. Take care!
Negative experience: Subject: Strongly Discourage Renting at The Highlands in Reno I feel compelled to share my incredibly disappointing experience as a tenant at The Highlands in Reno. I strongly discourage anyone from considering this place for rental apartments based on the numerous issues we faced during our stay. From the moment we moved in, it was evident that the apartment was not properly maintained. The carpets were sticky, stained, and appeared as if animals had lived there before. It was disheartening to see corners ripped up, and the overall cleanliness of the apartment left much to be desired. The ceilings were covered in what seemed to be black smoke or grease, cabinets had traces of food and stains, and the bathrooms were plagued with mold. The furnished apartment included couches that were never cleaned. Under the couch pillows, we discovered a horror show of dirty bandaids, used q-tips, food crumbs, popcorn, and old chips. We diligently documented these issues with pictures and spent days cleaning the apartment. Despite reporting the condition immediately upon receiving the keys, our concerns were initially ignored, and we were treated poorly. It took countless emails before we finally received assistance, although some issues like missing window screens were never addressed. In a separate incident, I had a handicap placard due to a major surgery. However, the designated handicap parking spot outside our building mysteriously disappeared. Despite repeated requests for assistance, the Highlands office was unresponsive. It wasn't until I mentioned liability and handicap laws, threatening legal action, that a replacement sign was provided. The final blow came when, a year after moving out and paying our rent in full, we received an $18 collections notice from The Highlands. We were shocked as we had never received any communication about this fee, no emails, calls, or letters. We had walked through the apartment with a Highlands agent during checkout, paid all remaining balances, and yet this unexpected notice arrived. The lack of transparency and attempt to collect a tiny fee without any prior notice is simply ludicrous. I want to caution anyone considering renting at The Highlands to think twice. Take pictures, document everything meticulously, and note names and dates of interactions. My experience at The Highlands was marked by poor treatment and negligence, and I hope this warning helps other students in making an informed decision when choosing a rental property. Sincerely, A Concerned Student

Positive experience: I love that the apartments are close to everything. It makes going to the store or out to socialize really easy. I also like that we have a balcony that we can go out and hangout on. I give the apartments a 4 because they are pretty clean and they have tons of storage in the kitchen so it’s nice because we all claimed a cupboard to put our stuff in. We also have a great view!
Alexis, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review about your experience at The Highlands. We are thrilled to hear that you are enjoying our location and apartment features like your balcony! We truly appreciate your feedback and hope for your continued enjoyment of The Highlands!
Negative experience: DO NOT MOVE HERE!!!! First of all… I lived in the Highlands 4 years ago and everything about their management and staff was terrible. No matter how many times we called them for issues in the apartment such as mold, the dishwasher leaking onto our floor every week, and little things around the apartment that needed fixing… it NEVER got done. For paying over $780 a month (not including utilities) , which is a ridiculous amount to charge college students for an outdated and broken down place… the overall experience was absolutely terrible. There was one month where the Highlands didn’t pay the trash bill and every dumpster in the complex was overfilled so badly and it stunk up the entire place. The manager is rude and will not solve your issues, she will just end up blaming you and is no help whatsoever. Secondly, I have been moved out for 4 years now. They JUST sent me to collections for a past due payment trying to charge me for a room that I didn’t even live in?!?! When I called to tell them I wasn’t living in the room they tried to charge me for, they said that I was wrong and they couldnt do anything about it. This isn’t a summer camp, so whatever “room they assigned me to” I didn’t want… so I moved my stuff into another room to be closer to my best friend. I called the front desk right away telling them I am switching rooms and they confirmed it saying that’s fine and they will change it on my account.. Now all of a sudden they don’t have proof?? So I had to pay a $560 collections fee to pay for someone else’s “damages”. They are a HUGE rip off and I HIGHLY recommend living anywhere else but here.
Madison, thank you for leaving us a review about your experience at The Highlands. We are disappointed to hear that your experience has not been ideal. We appreciate you bringing this experience to our attention. If you are willing, please contact us at (775) 348-2005 so we can work towards a resolution. We look forward to hearing from you.
Fantastic experience: I've lived at the highlands for 3 and a half years. Throughout my time there the staff was always willing to answer leasing questions and any concerns I had. Alexandria was someone who always stood out and took the extra steps towards solving any issues I was having. Thank you for all the help.
Richard, we strive for 100% satisfaction, and it is great to see you had such a positive experience at The Highlands. If you ever need anything else from us, please feel free to give us a call or stop by. Have an awesome day!
Fantastic experience: The highlands has been the home for my son and his good friends for the past 3 years while they all attended UNR. It has been a great experience for all the boys. A big Thank You to Alex on the Highlands team for being so helpful. We could always count on her assistance with the resident portal and maintenance when needed.
Donna, thanks for your praise and kind comments about our team. We're glad to hear we delivered such a great experience. If there's anything further we can do for you, we are happy to help!
Negative experience: This place is well known across Reno for being a dump. There's run down and then there's The Highlands. I've had friends live here while we went to college, and I honestly can't recall ever seeing any of their apartments being hole or mold-free, not to mention they just paint or caulk over the mold! This place is terrible! How they haven't been shut down yet for being slumlords is beyond me. You're better off getting an apartment further from campus because at least you won't incur hospital bills from getting sick from the mold and bugs!! If you care about your health and your kids' health, don't rent from these guys! You've been warned!! Note to management: Instead of asking everyone who leaves reviews to call you, I'd suggest you seriously re-evaluate how you're running your business. You can only go so long with such a bad reputation before it catches up to you. You still have time to fix these issues, REALLY fix them, before someone gets seriously injured or sick and litigates you to the sun and back.
Emmicah, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review about your experience at The Highlands. We are disappointed to hear that your experience has not been ideal. Our manager would really like to speak with you more regarding this matter. Please reach out to us at (775) 348-2005. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate your feedback.
Negative experience: don’t live at this raggedy place. everything was broke and maintenance took forever. and to top it off they add fake charges to your move out so you have to owe them money. you should live on the street before you live here.
Kelly, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review about your experience at The Highlands. We are disappointed to hear that your experience has not been ideal. Our manager would really like to speak with you more regarding this matter. Please reach out to us at (775) 348-2005. We look forward to hearing from you.
Negative experience: This place deserves 0 stars if anything. So much of the administration was a joke. They shredded my money order of $750 and then proceeded to tell me I was behind on rent and used a later months rent for that month. There was pretty much no guilt or acknowledgment of the issue this provides a self dependent college student and then put me into collections for not paying $125 for the move out charges on top of everything. An absolute joke.
Drew, thank you for taking the time to leave us a review about your experience at The Highlands. We are disappointed to hear that your experience has been less than ideal. We would like to work towards a resolution, so if you are willing, please reach out to us at (775) 348-2005 to discuss this further. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to hear from you soon!
Negative experience: Three roommates moved into the Highlands Apartments at the beginning of the 2023-2024 school year and had struggled with many maintenance issues. To their surprise they were assigned an ADA unit (which had 3 kitchen cabinets removed for wheelchair access) of which was never request nor was it noted in the contract. Also, when they walked in they found dirty counters, sticky kitchen cabinets, ant infestation, and paint on the floors. They immediately brought the issue of mold that was in the dishwasher, showers and bathrooms to their attention as a priority. When maintenance came in to look at the mold, they said it was dirt and caulked over it! A bathroom door and a closet wall had been kicked in and just patched with a glob of caulk, not smoothed out. They had ignored our numerous work orders, phone calls and a 14 day notice from Code Enforcement. As time went on, they found black mold and realized this is why the girls hadn’t been feeling well. Once the black mold was reported maintenance came in and painted over it. Initially management and the front office seemed very inviting, but then when you call back, they choose to not answer the phones or fulfill the work orders.

Our manager would like to discuss further with you at (775) 348-2005 so we may find a solution. We appreciate your feedback and hope to hear from you soon.
Negative experience: They charged for damage that was there when I moved in, documented by photos on my move-in report. They also charged for a patch they created when fixing mold in the unit. The mold was due to ice melting through the siding, so not from something I did. I have called several times and no one will return my calls, so I had to pay the bill. You won't just lose your deposit, you will be charged above that when you move out.
Hi there! Thank you for leaving a review about your experience at The Highlands. We are disappointed to hear that your experience has been less than ideal. Please reach out to us at (775) 348-2005. We look forward to hearing from you and appreciate your feedback.
Negative experience: I lived here for a year and had my motorcycle stolen out of the parking lot. They say they have security cameras and a gate so that the apartments are secure but that is a lie. I asked them to look for the footage 3 times down at the office and was never contacted. The highlands is not a safe place I would never live here again. Edit* The Highlands did too little too late. Management needs to take a close look at their staff. Save your money go somewhere else!
Ty Patmont, we regret to hear that you had a negative experience with us, but would appreciate the chance to turn your experience around. We would like the opportunity to make this up to you. Please contact our manager at (775) 348-2005 so we can make your experience a positive one.
Fantastic experience: I’ve been having some problems with finding a new apartment due to some past problems with my current one, so I called the highlands to ask questions about their place and lease. A lovely lady named Alex answered and had an informed answer for every question I had regarding the location, policies, and the lease, and was just overall incredibly helpful! Due to this, I’ll definitely be keeping the highlands in mind as I search for a new place.
Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
Fantastic experience: I went to ask about apartments for next year and spoke with a girl named Rachel and she was so helpful and answered all of my questions!
Hi Taylor O’brien! We're so happy we were able to help you out!
Fantastic experience: After touring multiple locations, we decided on Highlands for our our daughter at UNR. Clean, secure, modern, great facilities and very welcoming staff. Shout out to Hailey for the tour, wonderful welcome, and responsiveness to all our questions!
Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
Fantastic experience: Beautiful units at such a low cost! I wasn't too sure about moving in here but after going on a tour of the unit with the staff member Hailey, i just knew i had to make this my home. I recommend this to anyone looking for affordable but luxury feeling living!
Kevin Cebreros, we are so happy to read such a great review about The Highlands!
Fantastic experience: Today I had a great experience at the highlands. I went in just seeking information, but Rachel was a woman that I spoke with and she was extremely helpful. She gave me details regarding all amenities and was sure to answer all of my questions.
Hi Chloe Bremhorst, thank you so much for your positive comments about The Highlands!
Fantastic experience: I had such a great time stopping at in the Highlands to get some information. Rachel could not have given a better tour. She explained all the amenities clearly and shared the benefits of living at the highlands.
Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
Fantastic experience: I spoke with Rachel today ! And she was very helpful and answered all of my questions ! I have no concerns after speaking with her !
Hi Jasmine Laloulu, we are very happy to have provided you with such a positive experience!
Fantastic experience: Rachel was awesome on the phone for answering any questions I had! She was so helpful and nice.
Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
Fantastic experience: My friend lives at the Highlands and I went to visit her and the apartment complex was so nice! I called to find out more details and spoke to Rachel who was extremely helpful. She answered all of my questions and was very knowledgeable. I will defiantly be making plans to tour soon!
Hi Rachel Warren, we are very happy to have provided you with such a positive experience!
Fantastic experience: I spoke with Rachel earlier this week and she was such a pleasure to talk with! She answered all my questions and gave me as much information as possible!
We appreciate your positive review about your recent experience with us!
Fantastic experience: The highlands is by far my favorite student housing in the area. It’s affordable, and more “homey” than all the rest. The staff are all extremely helpful and dedicated to the care of their residents. One staff member in particular, Sydney, was the sweetest and most helpful by far. No matter what inconvenience my apartment had, she was able to resolve it. She was understanding and thorough, and ensured we were properly satisfied. 10/10 live here!
Bridget Webster, we're happy to hear you had such a positive experience with our team!
Fantastic experience: I took a tour of the apartments because I am looking for a place to stay while I am in school out here. Sydney was amazing! Her information was detailed and thorough and her cheerful and caring attitude made me feel at home and want to become a Highlands resident.
We appreciate your positive review about your recent experience with us!
Negative experience: I would give the Highlands zero stars if possible. I have been in the office many times for maintenance issues and the ladies at the front desk have no idea what they are doing. The manager is usually not here. The staff is rude when you have an issue with the apartment. The gate doesn’t work and I have not seen any motivation to fix it. My washing machine had stagnant water left in it for weeks because it wasn’t taken as an emergency. Now I am on my last straw with black mold growing in my apartment. The Highlands has no clean apartments available, even though rooms have been vacant for months. I am being forced to live with airborne mold due to their incompetence. Mold is an emergency and the manager has been gone both yesterday and today. The only way you will get anything done here is if you have your parents call. The only good thing about living here is free parking and no one cares about loud parties. Edit: The number they provided goes to the front desk. The front desk does not help. I have already talked to your community manager. Also The Highlands refuses to give test result for the mold I’ve been living with.
We are disappointed to hear that you did not have a more positive experience with us at The Highlands. We would like to have a better understanding about your experience. Please reach out to us at (775) 348-2005 at your earliest convenience and we will do our best to resolve this with you.
Fantastic experience: Rachel is very professional and supportive, and offered great merch at the end of the tour.
Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
Positive experience: This place feels homey! The bedrooms are carpeted and the walls aren’t painted a hospital white or gray color like the rest of the apartments in reno. It’s a really good price and the staff is awesome. Sydney helps me get my packages if I can’t find them in the mail room and always answers any questions I have! She’s awesome, I recommend to go to her when she’s there with any issues you have :)
Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
Fantastic experience: Hailey was an amazing tour guide! She was super helpful and very insightful. Would totally recommend her as your tour guide :)
Sarah Crane, we strive for 100% satisfaction, and it is great to see you had such a positive experience at The Highlands.
Negative experience: The place was an absolute mess. They are greedy manipulative place who will charge you after saying they won’t. After over half a year after you leave they start hounding you for imaginary cleaning charges. Greedy manipulative. I and my then roommates had to clean the place when we got there. I cleaned my room when I left. Front desk don’t write anything down leading to them attacking you for money.
Blindtoad Gaming, we regret to hear that you had a negative experience with us, but would appreciate the chance to turn your experience around. We would like to have a better understanding about your experience. Please reach out to us at (775) 348-2005 at your earliest convenience and we will do our best to resolve this with you.
Fantastic experience: Very friendly staff, great place with reasonable prices. Hailey in particular was awesome, felt comfortable asking as many questions as I had. :)
Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
Fantastic experience: I recently toured the Highlands apartments with my 3 closest friends, we were looking into a 4x2. The really cute girl at the desk with glasses, Hailey, gave us a tour and gave us all the insider knowledge like the best times to catch the UNR shuttle and when the cuties are usually on the volleyball court. We can’t wait to move-in in a few months!
Ma'Kayla Porter, thank you for your kind words and this wonderful review! We look forward to your next visit! Take care!
