Fantastic experience: Working with Ligia has been an absolute pleasure. Whenever I had questions during my stay, Ligia was quick to answer during working hours and would get back to me straight away after the weekend. Scheduling repairs was easy even though we didn’t really need to do so except for right when we moved in. Additionally, Ligia helped negotiate between myself and the homeowner after I bought a new home during the lease. All three of us were able to come up with a plan that worked out for everyone in the end. Would highly recommend partnering with or renting through this management company. 5 stars to Ligia especially.

Negative experience: This company will nickel and dime you every chance they get. $50 Lease renewal fee, $55 tenant benefit package every month added onto your rent, $2.50 transaction fee every time you pay rent. The maintenance is pretty good, doesn't take too long but sometimes you need to remind/follow up with them.

Fantastic experience: We lived in a Masterkey property for two years and never once had a problem. The staff, specifically Ligia Pinto, were always extremely quick to respond and fix anything we asked. I would highly recommend renting a Masterkey property!!

Negative experience: Update: See companies response below and run! There is a record of me applying but under my married name not my old google account however I’m sure that was very easy to determine by the spelling of name and the chances of another person with this EXACT spelling applying for that EXACT house. Arguing for the sake of being right is never a good look. I gave my experience and the property response shows again how they aren’t customer friendly. It is a money grab as I stated. Right after this review I got a separate decline email stating we were declined for either income or credit score. Reminder the first one was because it was already rented. The decline then pointed out that our resident score at 802, the range was 350-850 with 850 being the highest lmao what! So further proving we were great candidates . We made the income we made the credit score so this was a reach to cover their bases after I came here and complained. Read the other reviews that are low I’m not the first complaint. If this is how you treat a prospective client imagine signing the dotted line and trying to get anything done. Please be cautious when applying. Went a viewed a property that had been sitting for months. I saw it that morning, and again that evening. Reached out to Masterkey to see if available and was told to apply. Received a notification shortly after that it was already leased. When I called and asked why it’s showing online as still available I was told it takes a few hours to be removed. Mind you this is on every online platform not just one or two. Then I asked why when I called on Friday and asked about availability I was told to apply they didn’t tell me it was leased. The lady said because it hadn’t been until this morning. Today is Wed..biggest bait and switch I’ve ever been apart of. I’ve been a renter for years and yes I know it’s a gamble but this just felt sooo dishonest. This property had dropped the price several times so I’m guessing app fees was a way to rack up some of the loss. A honest company would have said there is an application on file but your free to apply when I asked not that it was available. Save your money and go with a smaller company they seem to still care about people.

Negative experience: Update to the owner’s response below: I submitted his income verification to your company, however, I provided multiple documents to your third party verification company. We called the VA to see what other documentation we could get and they are the ones who advised us to make a HUD complaint. Not against your company, but the third party verification company. You did not try and have a civil conversation with me, you instantly became combative and started yelling at me then hung up on me, rather than letting me respond. I did express how upset I was with your treatment to one of your call representative and she agreed it was uncalled for and was more than likely due to a miscommunication. Hence why I gave you 3 days (2 being business days) to call me back. Instead you are hiding behind your computer trying to play the victim. It’s astonishing and you are even showing on Google reviews your own behavior. My Original Review: I did not have an issue with MasterKey until we went to withdraw our application from a property. My husband is a disabled service veteran and he does have a service dog. Their third party verification company refused to accept his paperwork from the VA. It felt like we were going in circles and we ended up finding a different property during all of this. Since the other property’s verification company had no issues accepting his paperwork, and the house better suited our needs, we decided to go with the other house and other property management company. I called MasterKey to ask them to pull our application and did not ask for a refund on the application fee once. It was $100, not a big deal and I understand they aren’t refundable. I was asked why we were pulling our application so I explained our issues with the third party verification source and stated that the VA advised us to file a HUD complaint. We were not filing a complaint against MasterKey and I thought I made that clear on the phone with the representative I talked to. Mind you, this third party verification source has multiple HUD complaints opened against them currently and they have a D on BBB. That should’ve been a sign from day 1, but we didn’t look into them at first. We got off the phone and I was called back within 10 minutes. The same representative I talked to said I needed to talk with Robert Dell’osso, so I asked who Robert was and the person I was speaking to said he wasn’t sure. But I said okay and let him connect me. Robert started yelling at me that they follow all fair housing laws and they would not take any threats and hung up on me. Had he let me speak for two seconds he would’ve understood I held nothing against MasterKey and I was told I HAD to speak to him. I did not request to speak to him once. I called back and talked with a different representative who once again said she didn’t know who Robert really was. Well looking at their website Robert is actually the president of MasterKey. I asked to be connected with him because I was very upset with how he spoke to me and accused me of trying to say they violated fair housing laws, when I did not. I felt like there was maybe a miscommunication and wanted to give him a chance to clear it up. She tried calling him and connecting me to him twice, but he did not answer. She assured me that he would call me back. I decided to give it a few days because this all happened Saturday. Here it Tuesday evening and I still have not heard back from MasterKey or Robert. I am extremely disappointed with this company’s professionalism, especially from the president of this company. I gave him a chance to call me back and realized he possibly made a mistake. I am honestly glad we are not renting from them because if that’s how the president of the company acts, I cannot imagine how they would handle something as simple as a maintenance request. Robert’s actions give a bad name to Realtors and I truly am disappointed with how this situation was handled. I also have all the phone calls recorded, just like you do. So if anyone wants the truth they can reach out

They have managed our properties for the better part of a decade and have never once had an issue. I will conclude that they have some great accounting, which is shown by high quality financial statements ( I greatly appreciate this as a CPA).

Unfortunately, I live out of state so having someone nearby my rental properties in Cary was a must. Robert is reliable, trustworthy and gets the job done correctly. I do not have to worry at all about my properties or my tenants while he is in charge. Everything is definitely being taken care of the way I would do it if I lived near my rental homes.
