Fantastic experience: Issac did a wonderful job installing our doorbell. He got it to make the exact sound we wanted. He also cleaned up behind himself as well, and wore foot slippers to not leave tracks around the house. He was quiet (didn't disturb us) and was efficient. Glad to have been serviced by him!

Negative experience: I moved into my home January 22 and was giving keys that didn’t work and a lock unit that was not properly working. Craig was sent out to bring working keys let’s just say he was amazing with communication and assistant in all of the doors in the house that weren’t working properly. Negative experience: We have wasted our time more than 4 times trying to do a self guided tour at not one but TWO houses. Each time we have gotten an error trying to unlock the key pad via Bluetooth. You would think companies would confirm this works prior to posting a home for rent. Be warned :)

Negative experience: I haven’t even been a resident for a month. I keep getting fees and the house wasn’t really like it suppose to been. I wouldn’t even known if I wasn’t going in just to check the portal. The house had cosmetic damage which I really didn’t see all of that until I really stated to exam the unit from head to toe and plumbing issues. I want to break my lease already!!!!

Negative experience: I waited two months to write this review to give Mainstreet Renewal ample time to make things right. Unfortunately, they haven’t. We were supposed to move into our home on November 19, but due to unlivable conditions, we couldn’t move in until November 28 — the day after Thanksgiving. This was despite having text evidence that a thorough walkthrough and professional cleaning would be completed before move-in. The home had multiple serious issues: a broken dishwasher, broken oven, a leaking toilet, mice, mold, and overall filthy conditions. These were not minor inconveniences — the house was simply not move-in ready. We had relocated to Raleigh for my husband’s job, and because the home wasn’t ready, he was forced to drive three hours each way on workdays. During this time, we had to arrange alternate accommodations, childcare for our two young children, and I had to be at the house repeatedly to let in technicians — one time, no one even showed up. Because of this situation, we missed Thanksgiving with our family, and to make matters worse, the oven was not repaired or replaced until after Christmas. Imagine going through Christmas without an oven — even though they had more than enough time to fix it beforehand. Throughout this entire process, communication was extremely poor. I received plenty of “sorry” messages and “we’ll fix it” responses, but very little follow-through or clarity. We were offered $490 in concessions, which doesn’t even cover the 1.5 weeks we technically could not live in the home, let alone the additional gas costs, childcare expenses, temporary accommodations, and — most importantly — the irreplaceable time lost with family. I have requested multiple times that the concession amount be recalculated. Each time I was told it would be reviewed, yet I haven’t heard back — and it’s now been about a month. This experience cost us time, money, and peace, and it could have been avoided with proper preparation, accountability, and communication. Mainstreet Renewal had time to fix this, and they failed. I will never rent from this company again, and I would strongly caution others to think carefully before doing so

Unfortunately he didn’t have part with him which was definitely not his fault but ensured us that he will handle it. Today he came back. Remembered our names and got right to work on the issues. Negative experience: The worst experience with a rental company I ever had. They just want money without fixing stuff. Never can get a hold of anyone to talk to when you need something fixed. Went 10 day without sewer before they finally got out drain from the house to the septic fixed. Went 3 days with water to get a pipe fixed that ruptured by the water heater. And Jack there rates ever year by $100 and more and don't do anything to improve the property. I would stay far away from this company

Negative experience: Hey so please don’t ever ever rent from Main Street renewal. You will 100% regret it. Maintenance absolutely sucks and don’t get me wrong it’s not all the workers but definitely some and 1000 percent their management. So like when are you going to come out and actually fix our fridge?.. or are you just going to keep ignoring us. Lol our food has gone bad TWO WEEKS OF GROCERIES COMPLETELY GONE BECAUSE MAINTENANCE COULDN'T FIX IT THE FIRST TIME. Let’s not even mention all the other problems wrong with this house and how shitty your track record has been with actually maintaining the home. Or mentioning the fact you let multiple of your residents go without ac in the summer time because you’re too lazy to actually buy good ac units. Ps. Train your workers better. Been reported to the business bureau multiple times by not only us but many many other residents who have had the misfortune of renting from your company. Don’t listen to the “good” reviews, they are definitely fake.

The only difference between Phil and the other techs is he took the time to listen to my concerns and then provided me with a solid solution. Negative experience: All of the positive reviews are artificial because the nice maintenance workers get bonuses or something for good reviews. They ask you to mention them by name. Mainstreet renewal has a D on the better business bureau for a reason. Their rating there is 1.73 which is far more believable. Absolutely unlivable. We have had plumbing issues from the start. 20 days of the last 30 weeks haven't had water. Afterwards we had a burst hot water pipe which caused the house to have mold deep into all of the insulation under our house and into our living room. We had to harass them for about a month now to fix everything and they still have not added the floor back into the house. My wife has to play middle man between the vendors and the main street support staff because they're absolutely inept and so compartmentalized that the business cannot even function. We had to contact the county to get them cited to do one half of the job and now we are at the state level. This is the most unmanaged property I've ever seen in my life and if we try and fix the problem ourselves, it would break our lease. If you have any issues at all, you're completely on your own, even though you're trying to protect *their* property.

Negative experience: Took them 12 days to repair a broken and overflowing septic tank. Now there's a burst pipe and I have no water. When I tried to call and get it fixed they hung up on me. Their overall rating is artificially high because they ask their maintenance guys (who are always super nice and polite) to gather reviews. I haven't had a floor for 6 days now. "Somebody" at Main Street has been assigned to my case for 8 days now and I've never heard from them. I'm just "supposed to sit and wait for the vendor to call me." When I call the vendor, they say the claim isn't approved so they can't do the work. They basically want the vendor to do double the work for half the pay... And I'm living with an unstable subfloor and no living room for nearly a week now.

Negative experience: Seriously considering a civil lawsuit at this time. Many of the issues others have I have also experienced. Summary Promised move-in conditions not met. Maintenance issues mishandled and delayed for weeks or months. Multiple wasted appointments requiring time off work and loss of wages. Unsafe and unhealthy living conditions from water damage and mildew. Out-of-pocket repairs for problems Main Street ignored. Rent increases despite declining service and accountability. Main Street Renewal has consistently failed to uphold its responsibilities as a property manager. They expect tenants to follow every lease rule while they break their own. They raise rent on time, take payments on time, but never take responsibility for the state of the homes they lease. If you are considering renting from Main Street Renewal, don’t. You will pay premium rent for poor maintenance, wasted time, and the frustration of being treated like your concerns don’t matter.

Negative experience: EXTREME Mold issue in house (201 Lancaster rd. ) I have 2 children. I’ve called 3 times and it’s been over a month and nothing has been done. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. DO NOT move into this property when I leave! They renovated and didn’t seal anything properly. My outlets were literally dripping from moisture. I do not recommend moving into any of their properties.

Fantastic experience: Craig was the most wonderful maintenance technician! My dishwasher was not drying dishes and had mold and mildew growing in it. Apparently the house had sat vacant for awhile before I rented it. Not only did he fully replace my dishwasher, he fixed some of the piping under the sink as well. He stayed and made sure it was working properly before he left. Usually I hibernate away while the maintenance techs work but Craig and I chatted the whole time he worked. He was so nice and down to earth. I wish I could specially request Craig for every job!

Negative experience: Absolutely Awful Experience Avoid at All Costs!!!!! I don’t usually write reviews, but I feel obligated to warn others. If I could give MainStreet Renewal zero stars, I would. This company is hands down one of the worst rental agencies I’ve ever dealt with. Maintenance requests were pretty decent and we were lucky enough to have professionals coming out when needed. Their customer service is robotic and dismissive, it feels like no one actually listens, just a bunch of automated replies. But the worst part? The complete lack of care. You’re not treated like a human being, and more like just a monthly payment. I’ve cried out of frustration dealing with their customer service many times. After the first year which was good. They are known for adding charges to your ledger and expect you not to notice. They thrive off people who don’t challenge them because they expect you to not stay consistent so they can get away with things. We’ve had to request refunds on our ledger multiple times which took them some time to abide by because they are well known for taking their time replying to you when it comes to money. When it came time to move out after four years, we deep cleaned and we retained about 85% of our original deposit which we were pleased about only for them to take over two months to finally send our refund after lying twice that the check was mailed. We had to finally threaten them with seeking legal action in small claims court to finally receive our refund in less than a week after constant back and forth with them Please, please think twice before signing a lease with them. Do yourself a favor: rent literally anywhere else. We truly hope this convinces even just one person. If you have no other choice but to rent with them, then please take at least 2-3 days or whatever time they allow you to thoroughly do your inspections of the property. We were so excited about getting the house, that we missed a few things which were: a cracked window (that they charged us for even though we pointed it out to them) (though after the inspection), all of the door frames were chewed u by what seemed to be multiple dogs. So please inspect thoroughly.

Negative experience: AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS. Do not let the 4 stars fool you as the majority of good reviews are for maintenance people. The only redeeming quality is the repair/maintenance folk. I have been with MS Renewal since June of 2023 and will be with them until June of 2026, and I have not had a single positive experience with the leasing company. If you choose MS Renewal, you're choosing poor service, delayed repairs (even if your septic is overflowing, it'll take them 2 weeks to fix it- good luck with the stench!), and 0 care towards your tenants. This is a predatory business whose whole model depends upon being very difficult to contact and work with.

Fantastic experience: First of all, I want to make it clear, this review is ONLY for my experience with the repairman. Dealing with Main Street Renewal is an absolutely miserable experience. My poor dog and I have been without AC for a week in this 90 degree July weather. I tried to call them for an update and held for an hour and a half before giving up. AC went out and once Main Street Renewal finally sent somebody, Theo had it up and running in no time. Apparently a part had failed and was keeping the compressor from working properly. He was very knowledgeable and gave me advice on how to keep things running smoothly. He also stayed to make absolutely sure it was continuing to cool correctly. If they happen to let you pick your guy for maintenance ask for Theo!

Negative experience: Horrible customer service when it comes to the leasing company. Moved into our rental home in March, and the house had not even been cleaned from the previous renters. Splatters of all kinds of things all over the walls, ceilings, floors, etc. We are still cleaning the walls from how the rental company just does not do their job of preparing a home for new renters. Never in our life have we ever had such a horrible renting experience. Beautiful home…. Shame it is under such a lazy rental company. Negative experience: We’ve been with no AC for more than 10 days, our house is 92 degrees and I have 3 small kids that are on vacation and staying home with me all day. I requested a portable AC but they weren’t even capable of providing that. They took 4 days just to send the maintenance guy, then 2 more days for a technician who said the unit needs to be replaced. Now it’s been 4 more days and nothing. I’m really considering open a small action claim on court because we had a purchase a $300 portable AC for safety reasons and need a reimbursement or deduction from our rent. I already requested that and they didn’t answer. That’s the 3rd time with no AC in a year, first time my husband was able to fix the mistake the maintenance guy did while installing the thermostat, second time we stayed with no AC for 5 days and now we have no AC for 10 days and don’t know when it will be fixed. Terrible customer service, terrible maintenance timing…

Negative experience: Don’t rent from this company if you want basic necessities This company is terrible. The well connections that provide the entire house with water broke. I reported this issue at 11:45am on a Thursday and they didn’t schedule an appointment for someone to LOOK until the following day. Well then they couldn’t fix it so now I’m expected to go until Monday without water before a vendor can come look. No promise to have water restored that day… 5+ DAYS without water.. I have two kids and an elderly woman in this house that currently can’t use the restroom, cook or shower in the home I PAY RENT ON TIME FOR EVERY MONTH. Asked for relocation to a hotel as water is a requirement and was not provided one. Not to mention they left my family without a working AC in 90+ degree weather for DAYS. On two separate occasions and without heat for several days during winter. UPDATE 5/15/2025 I have not had working air AGAIN since 5/10 and the company will not provide an AC unit because it’s 1 DEGREE away from 90. Told me it needs to be 90 degrees. It’s 89!! Absolutely no human decency.

Negative experience: Absolutely terrible company, will never stay in a home from them again, and will make sure to tell everyone I know about how awful their services are. I was notified days before going on month to month status on my rental that I could not due to HOA policies. I was forced to move out in a span of 3 days, and they still charged me for a month of increased rent due to "failure to give 30 day notice" when I was notified days prior that I couldn't go month to month. I called their service line and after being transferred between departments 10 times I was told there was nothing they could do and I was responsible for 2200 dollars when I was the one that was forced to leave unexpectedly, while having still paid my rent every month. I will never stay in one of their rentals again and will make sure to tell everyone how awful this company is. I would give a zero star rating if it was possible.

Negative experience: I rented a Main Street Renewal home in Durham, North Carolina for about 3 1/2 years and I am here to strongly warn against renting through this company. Upon moving in, the home was dirty and some appliances were observed to already be damaged and not in good condition. I should have done an extremely thorough inspection of the property and documented absolutely everything if I had known how they were going to try and nickel and dime us when it came time to receive our security deposit back. Trying to get any issues resolved such as maintenance or random charges that appear on your account is a nightmare. You basically call a call center and sometimes you’ll get someone who is helpful other times you’ll be waiting forever and be on the phone with someone who is not helpful. We were also told by a maintenance worker that our roof had significant damage and there was water damage appearing on the ceiling however, all MSR did was paint over the water damage so I would encourage anyone looking to rent these properties - Do a thorough inspection. This company would likely let the roof fall in on you before they actually replaced the roof of the home. MSR continued to increase our rent, then added pet rent, when a part of the reason we chose this company, was the lack of pet rent and only a need for a pet security deposit. So our rent had increased almost $500 within two years. When it came time to renew our lease this year, MSR was again trying to increase the rent by about $100. We submitted our move out notice then MSR began reaching out with different offers, saying they would take half off a month of rent, come out and fix up the property, and then finally keep the rent the same. I told them if they wanted us to stay they should’ve stopped increasing the rent in the first place. A MSR worker completed a move out inspection when our lease was still an active and told us what concerns to address in order to maximize our security deposit, which were All completed To the best of our ability. Then when it came time to receive our security deposit back, A third had been taken out to address concerns, never mentioned to us During the move out inspection. They charged us for a broken window and Items left in the attic. We never accessed the attic, nor did we even know that the attic was Accessible. Essentially, the other part of our security deposit was going to replace a window that was already in subpar condition. I attempted to dispute, but of course they are a large company and I am one person so there is no fighting them. Be warned this is a large rental company that is greedy and only looking to turn a profit. My best piece of advice, if you do choose to rent through this company document everything thoroughly. See the pictures of the water damage that was just painted over.

Well, that's what happened to me and my family. We were informed that the property was bought by a new owner, not management company back in January 2025. Didn't hear a thing since then. Yesterday, there was a knock on our door from someone with the new company stating the house should've been vacant. Mind you we singed a lease with MSR in October 2024, our lease won't end until September 2025. Extremely unprofessional!! How do you not communicate with your tenants the property has been bought and new management will be taking over?

Negative experience: Was going through the application process and I was pretty uncomfortable with the amount of information they require. For instance logging into your bank account through their website. On looking further into the fine print, this company appears to have pretty in depth financial access for the entirety of your interaction with the company. I did not submit the application nor did I agree but somehow when I called to request a refund I had magically already completed and submitted my application and therefore couldn’t be refunded the money. I asked to cancel my application and I asked about the details of what financial information the company does have and how long they intend to keep it on file. I’ve gotten nothing but call-center run around and unhelpful email exchange. Obviously I’m not getting my $50 back but I thought this was pretty jarring and unnecessary because this is very clearly by design. I can’t imagine if I actually tried to go through with a rental or even if I was a property owner. Getting help from this PM company has to be impossible and very aggravating.

Positive experience: Currently not impressed with this company. We have been without hot water for 3 days, the hot water heater is leaking in the attic and there is NO emergency service!!!! Not only that, when you turn in a maintenance request, you just get a notification of an appointment between 9 and 5 on whatever day they schedule it for, how is that a good way to schedule anything?! You also can't easily call and get anyone on the phone. I recommend NOT using this company as an owner or a renter!

Fantastic experience: Theo addressed the 3 issues that were submitted. Great communication and flexible with appointment times. He checked things out, analyzed possible solutions, obtained parts, returned, and replaced them. Made it a point to tell me to let him know if all items continued to work.
