Negative experience: I will happily post all of the pictures and videos we’ve gathered throughout the year. I’ve rented from this company since March 2025. Within a day or so of moving in, this house had a water heater issue, leaving us without hot running water for many days. In the summer, this house had a plumbing issue which caused sewage water to backup into the shower and tubs. It took several days for them to send a plumber, forcing us to just live with sewage water in the house for days in the middle of the summer. No concern for health. Now, one of the water valves broke, causing water to keep bursting out, forcing us to shut the water off for the whole house. As of this writing, they’ve left us in a house without running water and their only response is “we’ll get to it when we get to it” essentially. All of this for almost $2000 a month in rent. This is unacceptable, as this house doesn’t have a drop of running water currently. (Isn’t that illegal?) Be very cautious if you decide to rent from these people. They will very happily work overtime to take out those $2000 from your account while simultaneously saying “oh well” to an uninhabitable house. Many other places you can rent in the charlotte area for this amount of money.

Negative experience: Truly would leave a one star if I was able to. DO NOT RENT WITH THS COMPANY. They are predatory, never able to connect with someone besides on their virtual chat, give wrong information, and I feel like they find their maintenance people on Craigslist. They allowed someone on the lease to get taken of and gave me and my other roommate no notice. We didn’t sign any type of new lease agreement, and now we have to pay more in rent than originally agreed. I tried to speak to someone about it but they kept deleting my inquiries. They gave me a number to call but they never answered. Do not waste your time or money with them

Negative experience: I live close to a house this company owns. I noticed two high school students wondering around this property that is vacant. They would have broken into this home if I haven't said something to them. I tried reaching out to this so called company to let them know and no one answers the phone. These people just don't know or maybe don't care if their property gets damaged. It happened to another place that an individual owned that I knew. Kids got into his house and built a fire in the living room floor. He had to do the repairs. $$$ I tried to help these people and all they say is call the authorities. Well that didn't do any good the last couple ot times that I tried calling and some of the neighbors. I guess sometimes you just have to look the other way. I wouldn't have rated them with one star but I wanted to leave a review. (Oh! by the way people that rent from these people say they never respond to calls).

Negative experience: if i could give zero stars i would. i am extremely disappointed in the maintenance team’s ability to help in emergent situations. i put in a maintenance request for a sewage clog issue over a week ago & had 1 man come look in my house & tell me there was nothing he could do. then i never was contacted by the vendor your team tried to assign. finally our ONLY TOILET clogged & they still have yet to even assign someone for the repair. i would never recommend renting from this company if they can’t handle a simple toilet clog in a timely manner. now there is RAW SEWAGE under my house & still haven’t heard from a single person about it being cleaned up or fixed. i will keep making negative reviews until i have someone contact me! if you want photos of the RAW SEWAGE under my house i’ll happily post them :) update: funny enough, 15 minutes after i posted this review i was emailed that someone would be assigned to fix the plumbing. i put in my initial maintenance request 12/26 & apparently it’s going to be 1/8 before anyone can unclog my ONLY TOILET. completely unacceptable, how does someone live in a house they pay for with NO WORKING BATHROOM. i guess it takes being publicly shamed in order for these people to do their jobs correctly.

Negative experience: I will NEVER ever recommend AGAINST a place more than I do here. MSR is irresponsible with responding to maintenance requests in a timely manner, and they have their maintenance individuals begging for good reviews (I’m sure there is an incentive attached to this). Which is why you see all of these positive reviews. For example, there was existing mold in my bathroom ceiling - and it took them 3 weeks to acknowledge the issue, come out and see it, and then finally contract a drywall team to replace it. It was a health hazard for myself and my husband - that they didn’t take seriously. Unfortunately I think that’s a commonality for their houses - because in these reviews the only positive reviews is mostly cosmetic issues that are resolved (oh no, my closet shelf wiring broke) They illegally charge after you move out (per the state of NC you are not liable for paying for cleaning/maintenance beyond normal wear and tear) and I recieved a whopping $700 charge with minimal explanation nor documentation). Getting in touch with these customer reps is exceedingly difficult - you’re put through an unhelpful AI bot, and then after you say the right thing - you may get transferred to a real person. They refuse email communication - I had a manager hang up on me mid question. I reported them to the BBB & I hope that explaining my experience renting with them can help you to reconsider renting with them, and choose to rent with any other company. MSR was a nightmare experience for me - they are unfortunately focused on maximizing their property profit than providing a positive living experience for people. And you’ll see them comment back the same automated response every angry review recieved -(and there are many!) but it’s a facade, nothing will change and I will continue to recommend against renting with them.

Negative experience: This is the worst management company I have rented from. We moved in 1 week ago and already have 4 issues. The two most urgent is a refrigerator that does not work and a leak in the living room ceiling. They too 7 days to send someone out only for the technician to arrive unprepared to resolve any of the issues. Not one of the request was fulfilled and we are still without a refrigerator for the Christmas holiday. We have $250 worth of groceries that they refuse to refund us for. This company is HORRIBLE!

Negative experience: Genuinely bad people. Evil, if you will. All properties owned by giant corporate asset holdings companies. Squirrels and mice living in the walls. They do nothing for an entire year. Then, when you renew your lease, they cleverly put pest control as your responsibility and now they call it your problem! They didn't have to do anything. Now I'm going to list the SERIOUS list of things that have been wrong with this house that we have asked them to fix. -Kitchen sink was dropped in without sealant. Water went everywhere. Sealed sink, did nothing about water damage and mold. -master shower was draining into bare earth, and was also leaking into closet. They let it sit for MONTHS. Terrible mold and wood rot. They literally put a fan in there and sprayed mold killer. They replaced the rotten wood THAT WAS SHOWING. Nothing else. They didn't even do that right. -shower was still leaking for several months after that. Finally they sent someone to replace it. This man fully broke the shower and patched it cheaply with calking. There is a literal huge hole in the shower... Shower head and knob are sitting half inch out of the wall... Shame. They still did nothing. -about 50% of electrical outlets were not working. Sent someone out. He said there was no less than 5 LIVE ground wires loose in the wall. -cabinets, drawers, everything in the kitchen is literally falling off the walls. The have the AUDACITY to send me a 10 day notice for some random crap they made up. While not addressing any of the problems. Evil. Shame.

Negative experience: I’m beyond frustrated with Main Street Renewal’s customer service. I was charged a $25 “noncompliance” fee for renters insurance that I already have and have always maintained since moving in. The only reason they gave was that they updated their mailing address — something I was never notified about. I didn’t get any email, letter, or notice that their address changed. When I asked where in my lease it says I’d become noncompliant just because they changed their address, no one could give me an answer. I’ve stayed completely compliant with my lease, but they still refuse to remove the fee. Every time I call customer service, it’s a nightmare. The reps are rude, condescending, and hang up when I ask questions or request a supervisor. They try to twist the situation to make it seem like I’m at fault when I’m clearly not. I even emailed them directly and asked that they contact me through email, but they keep messaging me through the portal instead. They claimed they’d do an internal review, but never followed up. When I tried to file a complaint, I was told that “a complaint cannot be filed.” This company seriously lacks accountability and respect for their tenants. I’ve done everything by the book, but I’m being charged unfairly and treated poorly. Definitely wouldn’t recommend renting from them.

Fantastic experience: I only gave this company a 5 star review bc of Kirby. Kirby was so kind & friendly & came out to help fix the things that needed to be done & put in a request for the mold that’s growing throughout our vents to have a duct cleaning as HVAC suggested yesterday. Negative experience: Do not rent from here. They do not take your safety seriously. We were left with no heat in the middle of January for a week due to a gas leak. Another incident we had the contractor started "repairing our back door" and left the frame off of the door making it unlockable for 2 days. We called several times in an attempt for them to have someone come out to secure the door but everyone we spoke with was out of state and said they could not do anything. After making it through to the property manager they told us we would have to wait or pay for it ourselves with no reimbursement

Fantastic experience: Eric was super! He even corrected the horrible job of caulking my tub that Scott Baker did. Scott used interior caulk for the shower!! Which didn’t last 24hrs& had the nerve to say “it looks so good”. I never checked until he was already gone unfortunately. My 11yr old could have done a better job. Eric 2 thumbs up!

Fantastic experience: This rating is for Terrance G from maintenance (not Mainstreet as a whole) he came out to look at my hot water heater that was leaking and in less than an hour had it fixed!! This was an escalated ticked that was not slated to have a tech come out for 4 days but he squeezed it in the same day. He was courteous and professional and honestly, saved me from having to take my kids to a hotel for the weekend.

Negative experience: Water heater lost hot water on a Tuesday, Submitted a request Wednesday morning when I realized it went out again. Created a maintenance request and haven’t heard anything about it even moving through processing. After multiple chats and calls on Sunday I finally have an appointment for someone to come “check” it on the following Tuesday. 1 week without hot water and no timeframe for the actually fix is so unreasonable. Horrible communication of them just saying your request is processing “soon” very soon. They are quick to remind you rent is due but where it comes to holding up there end of what your rent pays for they drag their feet. Will never rent with this company again.

Negative experience: I just had the rudest encounter with Michael. I called the Maintenance 800 number and spoke with Michael. I was telling him that I had put in a past MR about my fireplace not working and wanted to get a status update. He told me that Mainstreet will not fix the fireplace because they have the right to decide what they will and will not fix. He repeatedly told me that this is a luxury to have and not part of the home and that’s their policy. I asked where this policy was stated, and he noted in my lease and that I should read it. He repeatedly said that it was not his fault that I did not read the lease prior to signing and that is on me. I told him to forward me to the Supervisor because at this point, we were getting no where and he was very rude and condescending. He refused to do so and told me that I was going to listen to what he had to say and If I didn’t want to then I could hang up. He told me also that I was mad because I wasn’t getting my way!! He disrespected me numerous times throughout the call. As a man and a customer service representative you should never speak to any customer in that manner, be disrespectful and a complete jerk. I have never been spoken to in that manner before and I have been a resident for over 3 years. Instead of hearing me out to what I needed to be done and my misunderstanding of this policy he kept saying that it’s my fault that I didn’t read the lease and its not his fault I don’t understand. This back and forth went on for at least 7-10 minutes with him being so nasty and obscene before he hung the phone up on me. I told him that I would be doing the survey to notify the company of this encounter and behavior, he laughed and said I don’t care. If this is the type of representation that you all have for the company that is truly a dishonor. He needs to have some retraining on his Customer Service skills if this is going to be his continuous path and representation of Mainstreet. I called back and spoke with Mau and she was very helpful and nice.

Negative experience: Trash trash trash company!!!! Toured a home that we loved and started the application process. Paid for the app and their site kicked us off and wouldn’t allow us to finish saying we didn’t qualify…. HOW! We didn’t even do the background or income check. Stole our money and have tried getting in touch with someone and all you get is machines and no actual human to talk to. Even had our real estate agent reach out and they can’t even be bothered to answer him. Terrible company and scammers.

Negative experience: Don't rent with Mainstreet renewal! You can only speak with a call center in Texas, and the companies "policies" have no sympathy for their tenants. They would not allow me to break my lease to relocate for a new job... so shallow. The call center would not accept my early termination under any circumstances. I had to put it in writing that I was vacating and that in my lease, and under NC law, they were required to attempt to re-rent the home to mitigate damages. Once they finally complied because of my letter, they "attempted" to re-rent the home by jacking the rent up, and slowly lowering it until my lease term ran out. I would never willingly subject myself to a tyrant like Mainstreet Renewal ever again. Please find a local landlord who has a heart. STAY AWAY!

Negative experience: Don’t waste your time they are slum lords. I am a new resident and am very unimpressed. I have had maintenance requests in the portal for 14+ days now that predate us moving in that haven’t been taken care of yet. Fast forward to this past Wednesday and our A/C went out and it’s been 90 degrees everyday since. The maintenance requests only says request received and good luck getting anybody on the phone they’re useless all you’ll be told is they’re trying to contact/find the manager and someone will be in contact with you and they confirm your number and email address but no one ever follows up. It’s bad enough I’m suffering and sweating just sitting down in my own house we also pay extra in pet rent for our dogs to be here and they aren’t able to get comfortable either! They can’t stop panting and keep licking themselves to cool themselves trying to cool off and I can’t just keep them in my car all day so they can get A/C or keep my windows open hoping there will be a breeze. It’s currently cooler outside than it is inside my home and all I’m asking for is some window units to to help regulate the temperature here until they can get the A/C serviced but I surely will not be waiting 14+ days to see if and when then right this wrong.
