Experiencia negativa: Keyrenter Management Properties – Outrageous, Scam-Like, and Predatory I moved to the Valley from Pennsylvania and had never dealt with anything like this before. Sadly, several locals have since told me that companies like Keyrenter often try to take advantage of renters—and I believe it. 1️⃣ HOA / Pool – Misleading and Pressure When I asked last year to use the community pool, manager Carl told me the owner of the property wasn’t paying the HOA fees and that I’d have to pay an extra $34 every month to use the pool. I told them I would contact a lawyer. Although I had a lawyer available through my job, I didn’t want to bother them for something so minor, and because my daughter wanted to use the pool, I reluctantly paid the fee. This now feels like intentional misinformation designed to squeeze money from tenants. 2️⃣ Move-Out Charges – Scam and Retaliation When I moved out, Carl emailed me an outrageous list of charges: • Spider webs in a backyard tree (which they later admitted “are not your fault and should be removed”). • Cleaning window sills, removing stickers, clearing supposed clogged drains, and other baseless items. I immediately told Carl my lawyer would contact him because these charges were outrageous, a scam, and frankly evil. Only then did he backtrack and remove most of the charges, admitting in writing that several claims were wrong or exaggerated. Yet even after admitting I left the home in “great condition and cleaned,” they still tried to keep: • $95 for cleaning (for a tiny oven spill, a few food spots on the ceiling, and fan dust—normal turnover tasks). • $10 for a “missing trim piece”—something I know was not missing when I left. These are normal wear-and-tear items that a landlord should handle as part of preparing a home for a new tenant. 3️⃣ Predatory Behavior Toward Working Families It was obvious to me that Carl only agreed to review and remove charges because I’m a physician and he knew I could afford a lawyer. That’s unacceptable. Not everyone has legal counsel on call, and companies like Keyrenter should not be allowed to exploit hardworking people who may not know their rights. This is more than a “misunderstanding.” It’s predatory business practice and a serious warning to anyone renting in the Valley. ⚠️ Final Warning If you rent from Keyrenter Management Properties, document absolutely everything—take photos, videos, keep every email, and know your rights. Do not let them intimidate you into paying fraudulent fees. This company’s behavior is scam-like, unfair, and harmful to working families. Stay far away. We all work hard for our money, and no one should have to fight off a landlord’s attempt to steal it. 09/26/2025 Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed message. I do appreciate the clarification you provided about the owner and the fees. However, I stand by my original review. If I had not spoken up about the extra HOA pool fee or the move-out charges, I wonder what else might have been overlooked or added without proper justification. Unfortunately, I am not satisfied with how the business side was handled, and I feel it was not fair to tenants. While I acknowledge the effort to negotiate the final charges, this does not change the fact that the process caused unnecessary stress and lacked transparency from the start. I believe it is my right as a tenant to share my honest experience so that others are aware. Rather than asking me to rethink my review, I respectfully suggest that you reconsider how the company manages these situations in the future—from communication to charge assessments—to ensure fairness and clarity for tenants.

You always were a pleasure to work with and a great tenant. The last day of your lease in your communication to us you said "it has been a pleasure being your tenant", so to read your review there is obviously some miscommunication. Much easier dealt with over the phone but we can do it here since it is your preference.

2-HOA pools charges: If you pay extra and it goes directly to the owner, how did we take advantage of you exactly? (has nothing to do with us). In our advertising we never mentioned pool access. Do I agree with you that owner shouldn't have forced a monthly fee, yes. But legally they could and chose to do so. You need to remove this from your review as it has nothing to do with us. Your attorney would have told you the same.
3-In my email to you listing all move out charges I clearly stated if you see any errors please let me know. All of the charges totaled $380. You decided to not do this but instead claim there should be no charges at all stating every single item was inappropriate. Yet somehow we communicated and together we both agreed on a total of $105. Guess it wasn’t every single item. Your profession has nothing to do with how we do our job. Your attorney, if one even existed would have cost you money and resulted in something not as good as what occurred, you would have spend more than you were arguing for, so I'm confused here. How are you not happy? In essence your complaint is: We did our job so well by communicating and working with you that an attorney was not needed to be involved?
Charges were waived, you were happy. Are you not happy anymore? What you do not remember or realize is that the owner was holding the deposit not us. And as you can imagine, owner was not willing to agree with what you and I had discussed. They had their own idea of what was fair and I think that number would absolutely shock you. Which means you were such a great tenant and because we liked you so much, we covered the difference between what was agreed on by you and what the owner thought was fair.
Why did we do this? To avoid seeing a good tenant battle with a horrible owner, was our anonymous gift. So you could be happy as our relationship ended. But now this? Our only mistake was that we didn’t fire the owner sooner. But realize had we done this, you would have been dealing directly with the owner and not us. We treated you fairly and battled the monster you have all these strong feelings about. All of your complaints are not about us, they are about the owner and the final warning is so inaccurate, unfair and against your actual treatment that I insist you remove it. In general you should really rethink your entire review.

The fast response and professionalism they gave us was always above. Treating you with respect and fast solutions. I bought a house and they made my transition from renting to be an owner easier and helped me with advice. He's extremely responsive despite being the owner. You can tell he's hands-on! Cecilia and Mariana were so friendly and helpful. And Pete from maintenance was so welcoming - he even brought donuts to share during move-in while he worked on a few last minute items (because I requested an earlier move-in date, which they accommodated.) Overall I can't say enough great things about the whole staff. They are certainly the ones to entrust your home to or entrust to lease you a great home!

Experiencia negativa: I would not live here if I were you. They do not give you your security deposit back and make up fake items to over charge you and demand even more money. There were damages and fence was not fixed even before moved in. lol. Other than that, they were good when it came to Mainteance requests and attentive. Honestly, the realtor person was much nicer than whoever the main property manager guy is. But like I said, don’t live here unless you don’t mind your whole security deposit being taken away and trying to take more money from you.

Manager Carl went out of his way and came out to lets us in that night. When we have any issue wih the house, everything has been fixed right away. He was very professional, friendly, welcoming, helpful, and understood exactly what we were looking for and needed for our new home. Our move in process was quick and easy! Something we totally appreciated due to moving from out of state and unfamiliar with the area. Nice home and neighborhood, well kept home, if ever any maintenance issues, Carl and/or Cecilia have them taken care of it right away. Once our lease was up this summer, there was a slight hiccup but Cecilia took care of us and immediately found us a much much better home in a beautiful location! She made sure all of our needs were met and that we were happy here! The move out/ move in process again was very quick and easy. She too is very professional and helpful and caring, extremely friendly and welcoming!! My family and I can't imagine working with any other property management company other than Keyrenter Property Management. Thank you for all that you do!

We researched property managers and found Keyrenter PM and talked with Carl. Two weeks later the property is rented with a long term renter and we could not be more impressed. Experiencia negativa: Several reports were received by multiple formal and current tenants about the Keyrenters Property Management Apartments located in McAllen. Plumbing issues everyday, flooding issues during raining days, NO internet services since 5 months ago, insect infestation issues, trash and poop in grass and living areas, parking issues with neighbors, etc.
I can understand your frustration! Please know that that property you are in we were hired to find tenants only. After a tenant moves in the owner has their own property management company. Pest control, lack of internet, upkeep. These are all issue we can help the current management company know about. But we have nothing to do with the upkeep of this property.
We did have everything to do with your move in process. If you have a review in regards to the move in process we would love to hear how we did! We strive to make things easy and do our best to make your move flawless.

Experiencia fantástica: We moved from Houston and had a hard time finding a house to rent. Houses were moving so fast in McAllen you nearly had to commit the day you saw the posting. We worked with Carl and he sent us a video of the home. He assured us it was a nice home in a nice neighborhood. We love the home! The lease and transition was easy with no smoke or mirrors. They are super honest and we are grateful for all the help and the home!
