Negative experience: My family and I rented a 4 bedroom house, our lease went up on March 31st, I gave them the forwarding address on February 28th. Today, April 29th, I get a letter in the mail from Spire stating that they are keeping the deposit, and billing us on top of that. As it states in Iowa Code § 562A.12 Upon termination of tenancy and delivery of possession, the landlord has 30 days to return the deposit or provide an itemized statement of deductions. Valid deductions include unpaid rent, actual damages caused by the tenant, and certain costs of restoring the unit to its original condition. Failure to comply within 30 days may expose the landlord to liability for the full deposit amount plus possible punitive damages. given that- the letter we received was NOT an itemized list- instead it stated the general repairs needed, how much our bill is, stating we will possibly get billed more, and get the itemized list AFTER the 30 days by law. I will speaking to Spire in the morning, if they can not send us our full deposit back by LAW. I have no problem paying the $95 fee to go online and file in small claims court. We were told when we put our notice in that we were good tenants- well this is how they treat good tenants. They do not properly fix maintenance request and show up without a notice even after marking in the app that NO no one can come if we’re not home. My stairs were coming loose- what did they do? Staple them down- the staples were coming up and my children were walking on staples- what did they do? Say they would just staple the staples down. Instead of fixing a damage railing that was detached from the wall. The property manager just drilled it in the wall- a temporary fix. Either they can send my full deposit back- or they are getting sued. This company does not follow Iowa law- and was trying to extend the date saying “we will send the list AFTER the repairs are done” unfortunately via law, it doesn’t work that way. And unfortunately the 30 days is up tomorrow so unless someone is dropping it off at my house- we don’t have it and will be requesting the full amount- or you will be getting served. It’s unfortunate that I have to write this review.

This family moved out of a large house that has taken some time to get ready to put back on the market as it has required work on the painting, carpets, repairs and cleaning. The courts in Iowa have consistently upheld the type of letter they received when the property has not gotten all charges compiled yet, Spire has followed Iowa law. This is very similar to a property where the tenants broke a lease and continue to owe rent until it is rented again, it is impossible to have all charges compiled in 30 days. They have contacted us for a list of charges and those will be provided once all charges have been complied.

Negative experience: So I initially had a problem with my neighbor underneath me and reported it to the property management before this and now spire is running my apartment building and they continue to do nothing about this certain neighbor that I have underneath me pounding on the floor constantly yelling screaming cussing talking to my boyfriend when I'm not there yelling up through the vents turning on the water every time I get in the shower causing it to get colder too hot every single shower I've taken since I've lived there for the last eight months they continue to do nothing about it. I have continued to put in a notice to vacate they didn't have validate it they did not respond to my message or my notice to vacate now they're trying to hold me to at least that doesn't exist and say I can't move out until June and they're charging me rent but I vacated because they do nothing about the neighbor and she's gotten way worse. Now I'm living in a garage and my apartment sitting there empty and they're continuing to do nothing about it but they're trying to charge me the rent and they served me a 3-day eviction notice and I'm not even staying there. When I got home from work I'm carrying my bike up the steps she pulled a knife on me and nothing was done about that either and they're refusing to even acknowledge what I've told them about it so yeah. I think this company is horrible and I've obtained a lawyer to fight this so that I can get my deposit. The manager didn't do her job and get my lease signed therefore she has to cover her mess up so now she wants to evict me and tell me I can have my bunnies there when I go to work and I've had them there the whole time Ive lived there for the last year. Like what that's like telling you you can't leave your dog home when you go to work. I think it's just ridiculous the length they're going to cover up what they did and it's a shame that I'm having to go through this all because of their neglect to their own job. I would never went through them again maintenance was wonderful but when it comes to management it sucks I would never recommend this place.

We are required by law to uphold all leases the same way and unfortunately, this person has not paid their rent and so we have moved forward accordingly. We take all issues with neighbors seriously and do what we can, but each individual is in a lease and we must act accordingly.

Negative experience: Company is requesting applications with no intention of renting. I was required to fill out an application to co-sign for my son, pay the fee, share my credit info (which is very good). Just to find out less than 24 hours later they had no intention to rent to my son. They have all my credit info and $75 of our money. This is a scam.

Negative experience: Had similar experiences to others in the reviews; dodgy showings, difficult to contact anyone other than an answering machine with no hustle or motivation to communicate or return information. I had viewed their apartment after the agent showed up last minute and the property was generally unkempt, filthy entryways/hallways with debris everywhere, etc. Ended up putting in a general application that I would regularly attempt to follow up on. I was told processing had been stopped after I had to reach out to for updates. Fixed ‘errors’ they claimed to find same day and was given another 2-3 day estimate to hear back, gave them over 10 all together with still basically null communication. I assume they’re letting listings sit for as long as possible to collect the application fees on them before actually trying to provide rentals. I’d avoid this company specifically.

Fantastic experience: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I’ve had a great experience with this property management team. Maintenance is always fast, professional, and gets the job done right the first time. The maintenance guys respond quickly and are respectful every time. The buildings are consistently clean and well-maintained, which really makes a difference. Overall, management is responsive and takes pride in keeping the property in great shape. Highly recommend!

Negative experience: I will acknowledge my faults within leaving the one star rating. I was with them as Eagle Property Management and it changed to Spire right at the very end. My understanding with Eagle was that I was done and I want to say this was at the end of March or April. To my knowledge, my rent was paid up. I lived at the address for nearly 3 years and for the most part, I did pretty good. I struggled at the end because I was trying to break free from an abusive relationship and I said this on my 30 day notice to them. Yes, the place was left a huge mess. I was trying not to do that but my abuser refused to let me go clean it up or anything and started trashing everything. I stayed with my mom for a few months that summer and then when it came to my next property management company, after talking to Eagle/Spire, they basically said visitors were fine but anyone wanting to live with me had to fill out their own application or it was a nobody besides myself and my children. There was nothing about any past bill or anything of the such. I was never notified of any debt at all. I heard nothing about these people until the very end when I dropped off the rent and my notice as to what my abuser would allow. All of a sudden, this month… Over 4 years later, and I have Spire pop up on my credit report. I was never even notified of anything. I would think, for the amount, there would’ve been a small claims or something for an eviction.

Negative experience: I only give them 2 stars because maintenance issues are quick at being fixed. Far as the office staff most are rude and not very helpful. I was told many different things by different people. I placed my 30 day notice in on the first at 5 but supposedly it due by 4. So because of an hour difference I will be charged for an extra month of rent when I’m one a month to month lease anyways.

Negative experience: They need to fix the problem of drug traffic in and out of the properties they manage. They also don't return phone calls, I've been trying to get in touch with them in regards to proof of rent I paid for 2022. I need it for financial reasons. They don't call back and when they do they send you the wrong information. This shows that the employees and owner do not CARE about the tenants only money

Negative experience: I would suggest not going with this agency. Their cedar rapids branch especially. You only speak to one person the whole time and he seems like a scam just suddenly texting you on a random number. Also, you can never get a hold of his manager who makes the decision to accept your application or not? Also, they wanted us to mail our security deposit (900$ check from arizona to iowa, not sketchy) before they would let us see the lease agreement. When we pressed further, we got an email for another lady who just gave us a sample lease?? Very sketchy so I'm not sure how well they would be as a landlord over you Edit: Spire replied and said that they are accommodating with out of state move ins and will send the lease once there is a move in date and dont require the deposit before - that did not happen in our case at all. Also, I understand they have people upfront taking care of application and I know Raphael was just doing his job but it felt like his hands were tied at what information he had. Also, he was our only point of contact and finally shared another email after being pressed. ( I called his manager three separate times and only got her voicemail. Her number was listed on a property we were interested in and I had more questions but never an answer)

Negative experience: Good afternoon, I wanted to bring to your attention some concerns I have regarding the property management company, Spire, that oversees the 38th and University property. Specifically, I find their approach to be overly intrusive, with excessive walk-throughs that go beyond scheduled inspections and pest control visits. In my experience, Spire's frequency of entering residents' apartments is excessive compared to other property management companies I'm familiar with. I believe it's essential to respect residents' privacy and personal space. I would appreciate it if you could address this issue, particularly with regards to Cameron's behavior. If necessary, residents may need to explore further action, including reaching out to the media, to bring attention to this matter and advocate and call in local and National organizations

Negative experience: Been livin’ in here for over 4+ years, since this property was owned by EPM, have no issue with SPM so far they good, they do maintenance and everything on time good people, but there is a down side, this place used to be very safe, but feels like not anymore…back in 2022 someone broke my car rear window at night prob they were tryna steal something outta my car which I was lucky didn’t leave anything valuable in my car that night, as I found out the next morning and called the Police to file a report, they couldn’t do much coz there are no security cameras or anything around the buildings or the whole complex which could help in finding the suspect or to keep the cedar trail community safe… I had to fix my window myself which I paid around $700… Now few months ago again someone forced opened my garage and went thro all my stuff, they tried but couldn’t get into my car which was parked in my garage coz of extra antitheft features, I called the cops and again they couldn’t do anything coz no cameras or any other way they could help me in finding the suspect they just said they are gonna increase patrolling around this area… recently, I bought a new Toyota Highlander, and again last night on 03/16/2024 someone broke my Highlander rear window, and idk what to do about it or who to talk, coz Ik police are gonna say the same thing again…SPM is responsible for that and needs to do something about this, this is a serious problem for all Cedar Traill village community… Forgot to mention my neighbor car was stolen from inside the garage…

Negative experience: UPDATE- I could only get a more in depth reasoning once I left a review. Ive held my job for a year now. Spire property wasn't aware that I lost my job at the time of FED so there is no way I was denied based on not having a job at that time. I typically don't leave reviews, but I felt moved to this time. I applied through Spire Property Management in hopes of moving closer to my family before giving birth to my first baby in March and found the PERFECT place. I was denied due to a previous eviction process being STARTED, but dismissed (even though the application says "may" be denied due to process starting). At the time, I lost my job making $23 an hour due to company downsizing and having issues covering almost $1400 in rent and utilities. The eviction process was started the same month as the missed payment and I moved before court. The same manager who denied me couldn't even bother to call. I get a text that says, "Decision is final." Where is the consideration and why does the application say, "may be denied," if it's a for sure thing? The worst thing you could do to people is give them hope and take it away.

Negative experience: the apartment was very nice! lived there for a couple years. one star review due to the fact i have debt collectors calling me a year later for 4 months worth of late fees totaling around $400 when i was never late! still on my credit though! LOL! i would turn my rent in on time and they wouldn’t cash my money order till the 16th…based off of my records. tried to get ahold of someone at spire for the last 3 months and haven’t heard anything back. i’m starting to think no one actually works here. hopefully one of you sees this! also if you’re considering renting through spire i 100% advise against it. thanks.

Fantastic experience: I have been with Spire thru my first years lease, and most recently they helped me find another property to rent that accommodates my elderly pet. Negative experience: There's no way I wouldnt have a LAWYER . This company seems very predatory when it comes to giving deposits back. I'm not the one to play with. I promise you I'd get every dime owed if they even tried that with me! And then turn around and sue for suffering. Some of y'all got big lawsuits and don't even know it. You have 365 days to pursue if it recently happened! Get a lawyer!!!!!!!! This is sad.

Negative experience: The apartment is just way too outdated for them to be raising rent every year. They are supposed to give 24 hr notice before Maintenance comes in but never do, also supposed to call before maintenance comes in They don't do that either. Its really annoying especially if you have babies or any pets that you have to put up. I've heard people say they scam you out of your deposit even if the apartment looks good after your lease is up mine isnt yet so we will see. I recommend taking pictures of literally everything before you move in if you rent of these people. The attitudes of the people in the office are horrible! The lady at the front desk also comments on how much I pay for rent and it's actually really Embarrassing because she only does it when people are behind me like she's trying to embarrass me on purpose, I've called her out on it multiple times and she still does it. It's so rude. They all have attitudes for no reason. Let me edit this since spire tried to come reply to my review like I'm lying or something. MAINTENANCE NOR SPIRE HAS GIVEN ME A 24 HR notice the last 3 times they were here, AND to whatever worker replied to my review I have asked for a phones before they come I've went in, I've called , I've complained many many times. I have emails I have text messages as proof so before spire tries to say somebody is lying might wanna.make sure they don't have prrof

The unfortunately reality is that inflation and property taxes are going up quite significantly and we are having to keep pace with that in our rent increases. Maintenance always provides 24 hour notice for entry, phone calls must be requested on any maintenance request. Anytime a person is paying rent in cash, the amount is verbally confirmed so that there is no misunderstanding when paying the rent.

Negative experience: Worst management company. What a bunch of crooks. 0 out of 5. They will take your whole deposit and charge you more. Never had a management company take all of it and charge more. They will ask you to send them a letter which they won’t respond. As they do not answer phones. I specifically picked my apartment bc it was not Eagle( Spire). But ended up with them bc my landlord changed to their management. It looked like the only way to get a return back is to sue them.

Negative experience: I recently had a very odd experience applying for one of their rentals. I submitted all documentation. I have been in my current rental for four years, not one late payment, a 650 credit score. Someone named Raphael contacted me and said he reviewed my application and was submitting it to his manager for final approval. His manager never responded or got back to him. So then he said he would email someone named Tiffany and let her know I was waiting for a response, then he told me she didn't respond either and his words were, "I don't know what I can say " Then I asked for contact information for one of the managers and he said, "sorry, I can't provide that." So now they have all of my private information including my social security number and I have no idea what is going on and apparently the only person I can communicate with is "Raphael" who is not able to get ahold of his own boss. There is definitely something fishy about this situation and I would not recommend applying for any of their rentals. If the communication is this poor during the application process I can only imagine how things would be once moved in to said property. Good luck to anyone who is looking for a rental with this company in a timely manner. It's been two weeks now and still no response, just a text saying they don't know what to say.... **Update I was recently told the property I applied for is now rented out. I was sent a text message, again from Raphael as he instructed me to pick a different rental. I did. But now he's waiting for a response from his boss again for final approval. Hopefully I'll hear back before this one is rented out as well. Fingers crossed because I would like to get my children acclimated with their new school(s). Hoping to get an October 1 move in as I'm moving from Sheboygan Wisconsin.

Negative experience: Fake reviews, staff that lie or don't know anything, and predatory....beware this place is garbage and so are the people that work there they've had ample notice, place was left clean plus I was there long enough to be considered wear and tear and gave them forwarding address in 3 places, with the notice , on their website and with my goal payment and they stole every dime of my deposit... they do that bc they know there is no recourse in iowa unless ur poor and qualify for legal aid or can afford to front for an attorney... eagle property rebranded yet same predatory tactics ... spire, Cedar Rapids and Iowa should be ashamed, glad I left!

Negative experience: Not positive to say. My fiance is a tenant and I'm at his place every day, (but it's several of Spire properties), The dumpsters are surrounded my furniture, there are dead trees with several widow makers, the bushes are overgrown, the buildings are in need of repair, and when you call the office you get voicemail and rarely get a return call.

Negative experience: poor communication, took forever to get maintenance requests filled and some never got filled. Charged me when I moved out for things that were damaged when I moved in and was told wouldn't be charged for. I made a dispute and after 2 months of checking in they just stopped responding to any communication about the issue.

Negative experience: If I could give zero stars I would. First, they gave us 1 day notice that our management was switching to them and that our direct deposit was supposed to go to them. Then for 2 months we got failure to cure of non payments, got 6 of those in the span of 2 days one month, even though rent was paid on time or early. Then we gave our 30 day notice. Moved out, confirmed I didn't have to shampoo carpets professionally, so I used my own shampooer to clean them. Cleaned whole place. On the 28 day mark after move out, they took over $400 from our deposit and gave the most bland itemized bill and didn't give further explanation, so we got a lawyer. The lawyer advised only written communication, so we sent in a formal letter requesting our full deposit back. It then took 2 months of us messaging and emailing a request for our money back with evidence, no response. After 3 months the lawyer wrote a letter and said that if they didn't give us our full money back with our evidence or provide evidence to why they kept it, that we would sue. 1 week later, the check for the full deposit hit our mailbox with a response to our lawyer of asking for our address, no arguments. After legal help they magically complied. During our time there, they never answered the phone either. If you live in a property of theirs, make sure you have photos before moving in and move out photos. Also, make sure you know renters law of Iowa before you do things. NEVER rent from this company!

Negative experience: If I could do zero stars I would. Honestly. Rude staff. Will deny you if you make them do more work then they want to do. Especially anything to do with ESA or answering questions you might have. Don’t give them the same energy they give you cuz that’s “rude”. Wasn’t gonna move in with this company anyway just want to see if I would be approved. Couldn’t imagine actually renting from them if this is how they act when you ask questions and want answers. You have to send screenshots to them if proof you sent any thing over such as shot records and paystubs.

Fantastic experience: I have been renting from Spire for about a year now, and could not be more pleased with how quickly they respond to maintenance problems. I had a plumbing problem after 11PM and they sent a plumber after midnight to address the problem immediately.

Fantastic experience: Had a running water issue in the complex and not sure where it was. Matt responded to.the call and fixed issue. He contacted me (it wasn't my unit) and advise me that issue was fixed and no damage that would effect my unit. ALL the maintenance crew at Spire are prompt and professional. Thank you again Matt .

Negative experience: I arrived on time for an 11:45am scheduled tour of an apartment. I got a text and a call from a Spire staff member informing me that the apartment had been rented out and off market. I was upset by that as I spent my time off for nothing. Very poor timing on Spire Property Management’s, and I I hope this doesn’t happen again.

Negative experience: If their office hours end at 4 pm, don't have any showings available at that time. Update 1/19/2024: Not only did you lie, I was there from 3:35 to 4:12 waiting for the agent to show up. Leaving 2 voicemails.

We are very careful to make our showing times. In our system if a person does not confirm that they are going to be at the showing, it is cancelled. It unfortunately happens that sometimes people don't realize and show up for a showing that has been automatically cancelled because of this.

Negative experience: Day I moved in I found dead bugs and even a dead cockroach inside the kitchen cabinets had seen a cockroach in the bathroom. My freezer had ice build up that melted into my fridge when it defrosted had maintenance come in and he told me it was only a temporary fix and that i would need a new fridge and that he would talk to the company and I never heard anything about it again. the thermostat was duck taped onto the wall and then they tried to charge me for breaking it. Carpets were so disgusting we ended up completely shampooing the carpet so it was stained. it’s unfortunate they are so prevalent in CR and IC because i will never rent from them again

Negative experience: I was a little worried about the poor reviews prior to applying but decided to give them benefit of the doubt. Turns out, I should have just believed everyone else. We applied for a rental on November 10th. It states they will review applications within ~10 days? $20/application. That’s fair. They reached out to landlords, reached out to employers (they asked my supervisor if I had “any problems” at work Bizarre), said our applications were forwarded to the manager and that we would hear back. And then we never heard back. Whenever we reach out to them, we are repeatedly told that “we will hear back by the end of the day” or that “they emailed the manager and she will hopefully get back to us soon” etc etc. I left a voicemail with the manager, Tiffany, on Monday asking if there was any questions or concerns regarding our applications. I expressed I was disappointed in the lack of communication. We just wanted an answer whether it was a yes or a no. Tiffany still hasn’t responded. It’s been 19 days and absolutely nothing. Long story long: this company is useless at communicating, lacks professionalism, and should change their motto to “Relentless Pursuit of Wasting Your Time”

Spire offices in Cedar Rapids are open to the public Monday-Friday from 8:00-4:00 with a 1 hr lunch break from 1:00-2:00 and on Wednesdays there is an additional closure for time for staff to meet. We also have 24 hour service with AppFolio where tenants can pay rent, submit maintenance requests or check their balances. Phones are answered during these same hours and we provide an emergency answering service for after hour emergencies. There is always a way to contact us!

Negative experience: They wont let you rent more than 3 months. After that they tried to get us to leave by not repairing things and they stole our deposit and to this day havent provided a receipt. They will also try to sue for the maximum amount they can even if they’re in the wrong

Negative experience: Place is going to hell, The trees are rotten, the bushes are not tremned, the weeds are out of control. But they sure want their Money. The grass is never trimmed, And the management company never called back and very rude. They never called back or never answer your questions. I would not recommend this place...

Negative experience: Charged me $400 “pet” deposit for a registered ESA. Too bad I found out they’re not allowed to or supposed to do that until after I paid the $400. They need to learn the rules on dealing with ESA and service animals for tenants. They also sent me multiple messages privately telling me to clean up dog waste when it was not even my dog waste. Anytime I went into the leasing office the front desk people were always in a mood. Trashy company with poor customer service and dirty, outdated apartments. Update to the company since they replied: I have photos and receipts of the $400 I paid to whatever employee told me I owed a pet deposit for my ESA. 3/30/21 at 3:39pm I paid it.

Negative experience: Unprofessional, Unresponsive, Criminal. Worst Property Managers I've ever had... If you are looking at an apartment, make sure this is not the management company. My experience has been that they will add fees in the middle of your contract (illegal), take months to fix issues in your apartment, impossible to get in contact with, take money out of your security deposit without explanation (illegal), not send you the security deposit within 30 days of leaving (illegal), and when you try to confront them and get your money back they will ghost you. I lived in the Metropolitan and they recently became the managers of the apartments, which has made multiple people leave because they have done such a poor job. Response to Spire's Comment: False, you added a petty "technology improvement fee" in the middle of my contract and my move out was July 8th and the Deposit is Aug 30th. Don't try to present your response as fact because you can't even be reached by phone or email to discuss the matter.

Spire works hard to ensure that our policies and procedures are in accordance with Iowa laws. We do not add fees that are not in accordance with leases or notices. Deposit letter did go out within the 30 days of our knowledge of move out as the keys were not returned to the office.

Negative experience: SPIRE PROPERTY MANAGEMENT does not do anything right. They are slumlords. We have NEVER been late on rent. We had issues moving in at the start. My fiancé was on military leave, and they told us we would be able to move in mid June. The carpets were dirty, wet, and stinky, as was the entire place. Not to mention it looks like they hired the crappiest people in town. Then, it gets worse. After the derecho, some other tenants had some food going bad, which caused a cockroach infestation. They didn’t deal with this for over 2 months, even with constant complaints and communications. I had to call the landlord Randy, and he is the only person who even tried to help. Then, about 2 months ago, we started hearing scratching in the ceiling. Mice are living there still, and the poison we have set barely have any bites out of it. Because they live in the ceiling lmao. To add why we have been evicted, it was after they “realized”- they were on our lease- that our kids lived here, they said we can’t have their extra space in the basement. “It can only be used for storage,” said the horrible maintenance woman Debra. The “staff” she entertains is a joke, when we called about the mice, she said that, “Well it’s probably a big animal.” I said, “Even if it is, it doesn’t matter. That isn’t a solution.” They came, “looked around” and said they would put poison around. The staff and maintenance crew also tried charging us 3 times when their staff neglected to call us when they were coming. TRASH COMPANY ALL THE WAY AROUND. ‼️2023 update: they are the shadiest and worst run company in town. I know the housing market sucks but it’s going to end badly. Look at all these awful reviews. ‼️‼️

Negative experience: Plan to lose your entire security deposit plus more if you rent a property managed by this company, no matter what. My father rented an apartment for 3 years, through a Derecho. It was a nice apartment in a great location. When I helped him move out the property was in excellent condition. We read reviews here that they were terrible about returning deposits so we cleaned from floor to ceiling and cleaned the carpet. He is single with no kids or pets and didn’t even use one of the bedrooms or bathrooms the entire time. He barely used the apartment as he travelled for work. He left the property in excellent condition and they are requesting the entire security deposit plus more for things that had not been fixed by spire after a derecho. We have photos and will be disputing the claim. I will post an update.

Negative experience: Waited for 30mins but no bother to stop by and view us an apt with prior appointment. When emailed then got a response they stopped viewing by person then why appointment schedule..such a bad management.

Negative experience: Found out today after moving out a month ago that spire took our entire $1300 security deposit. My wife and I even filled in all the holes in all the walls and painted every wall before moving out. Cleaned the entire house before we moved out and they made up a ton of fees to take the entire deposit. When we moved in the house was clearly not cleaned beforehand and we had to handle it ourselves. Would not ever move in with this company again. Editing this because spire responded in a way that it would look to be my fault. They charged me over $200 to replace 5 screens in the house that were not there when I moved in. Charged me $150 for lawn work that I had already done before I moved out. There were drawers upstairs that were broken when I moved in that they then charged me for when I moved out.

Spire Property Management upholds the terms of our leases on all occasions. Iowa law and our leases require a 30 day notice to leave. If rent is not paid through that period, the deposit is used to make up the difference.

Negative experience: Eduardo is extremely rude when asking a question he sounds like he doesn’t care, asked him if he could schedule a showing for me because it wasn’t working on my end and he got extremely mad, TERRIBLE customer service. Deb also has a nasty attitude. All they care about is the application fee and run, never rent through spire, put my appointment in and it took them 3+ weeks with no update, when you call them they completely disregard you, not a welcoming company all they care about is the money.

Negative experience: Spire is one of the worst companies I have worked with. In order to confirm my apartment I had to call over and over again where my messages were not returned or I was told the person I was supposed to talk to was busy. After over a month of waiting we got the apartment. This apartment building was not maintained at all. Stains all over main hallways, walls & doors. The yard outside was always full of trash & no cameras for security purposes. When we entered the room the apartment wasn’t clean & shower doors were taken off & toilet wasn’t level with the ground. Every time you would try to call the office no one would answer & even if I left a message my call was never returned. There wasn’t enough parking at the building for all residents to park & snow removal wasn’t never done throughly. After moving out our deposit return was sickening. We were charged a cleaning dee as well as a painting fee when the place was dirty when we moved in & there was no reason to paint. When contacted for being charged for things we did not do we were ignored. Extremely unprofessional

Positive experience: The only complaint I would have is that Noone comes to clean the hallways outside of apartments. My mom and I keep up on ours for our bldg, but the other bldg is gross. I wouldn't go over there if I didn't have to do laundry. And also noone comes out to spray for spiders and bugs.

Negative experience: We applied and didn’t hear back from anyone until I reached out to them first. Nobody picked up during open hours multiple times. Finally got through to a guy who seemed like he had no idea what he was talking about. They texted us an update and took forever reply to the texts. Super confusing and a waste of time.

Negative experience: Received 6 months worth of gas bills and late fees at once and was told to pay. Apparently when the building was sold somebody made the mistake of taking services out of tenant’s names. Utilities don’t just get taken out of your name when the building is sold. Spire blamed Mid American energy for their error and claimed usage bills weren’t mailed. Mid American says the mailing address was in fact Spire. Spire has been getting usage bills for 6 months and won’t even take responsibility for their mistake. No offer to pay late fees either. Not to mention that they never answer their phones or return calls—they also enjoy turning water off for maintenance purposes *frequently* without notifying tenants. We’ve asked them politely to notify us and their response was “we will try.” I’m growing weary of how unprofessional they are.

Negative experience: I had a private landlord originally who had to sell due to the derecho. Eagle took over and then Spire did which they would be unaware of the condition of the unit when I had moved in in 2020. I lived in the unit for 2.5 years and moved out at the end of January. I cleaned the unit prior to moving out the best I could and it was left in better condition than when I had moved in. I contacted them multiple times about my security deposit and was finally sent it at the beginning of March. I called and emailed to appeal the charges to my security deposit on the 6th. Have since called and emailed them multiple times to get an update, but received no answer. Today I called them 15x, emailed, and texted throughout the day and did not receive an answer until I hid my number. Finally got an email about the charges to my security deposit, but seems highly unprofessional to have taken the amount of attempts I had to make to contact them. I had pleasant interactions with the maintenance staff when I lived there and made all my rent payments on time, but with all other concerns Spire fails to answer in a timely manner. I do not recommend renting from this company due to the unprofessional behavior of staff outside of maintenance I have encountered throughout my lease and since moving out.

It is our policy to have the units professionally cleaned for the next tenant and that was the charge removed from your deposit. Lastly, because we were not your original landlord, as you mentioned, we did not charge you for the additional work that had to be done before we could lease the unit to another resident.

Negative experience: Would recommend going someplace else. They don’t seem overly anxious to help you with a showing on a weekend. They said go to the scheduler but there are no weekend times for any of their properties. Other places have bent over backwards to assist in finding a weekend time. Think they are managing too many properties…read other reviews.

Fantastic experience: Started with Eagle and transferred to Spire. From what I can tell staff has remained mostly consistent with almost always a positive experience. They are picky as a management company should be so that can be a little concerning sometimes but as long as you communicate and do what you agree to I’ve found they are easy enough to work with. Maintenance after Durecho was a bit slow and again to be expected, everything was slow but it was nothing major or unmanageable. Otherwise only two other request and they’ve been very responsive. My home owner is a bit picky too so I try to accommodate and still make things work for my family and it works out. We love our location, neighbors, and school and we’re pretty chill so it all works out for us! I’d definitely recommend the company and staff. Deb specifically has always been great!

Negative experience: Horrible. Communication is bad. Doesn't do maintenance as requested. They forgot to pay the water bill and it got shut off in the middle of winter for a day (almost 2 days).. we had to call the water company and them to get the situation resolved.

Positive experience: I've lived with spire property management for a little over two years now and it has been a breeze. When something needs fixed spore property management has someone attend to it always within 24 hours. I do not have any complaints about other tenants in my building. When I've needed a key changed spire sent seone out to do it on the weekend even though I was charged more I appreciated the fact that that option was a choice for me. One is sure I've had is that the second floor laundry dryer does not work. I have called many times so that this issue would get fixed and have yet to see a change. Also in the summer I have mager issues because air conditioner does not work and I have talked to seone a few tes about it. They have changed the air conditioner and it still won't work. I love my apartment it's a nice little home. Our parking lot gets plowed in a timely manner and salt is supplied to us from spire.
