Fantastic experience: I am so happy with Keyrenter property management. I had a main water line break in my front yard and within 24 hours they had a contractor out and they dug up the yard found the water line and fixed it. Couldn’t ask for much more.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been looking for a place for my family of 5 to rent. And haven’t been too thrilled about most of the property management companies I’ve dealt with up to this point. Until I called Brian from key renter last night. Brian Soto has been absolutely phenomenal to work with from the 7:00 pm phone call and allowing us to view a property same night to all my questions the next day. If everyone at key renter puts in half the effort Brian did for me and my family I cannot wait to land a property with them.

Fantastic experience: Amazing experience with top-notch individuals! Rodney and Samantha are first-class people and everything in their business flows from that. They run the business the right way: follow pre-established rules and guidelines to create a stabile and predictable environment, but always use common sense for unique situations that pop up. We had a short-notice military move and they worked to get our home on the market and listed within days. Traffic was awesome and rented at market rate. Management has been autopilot and communication is always easy and snappy. Recommend 100% if you want to work with good people who set the standard for business with integrity!

Fantastic experience: Very grateful to have been referred to Keyrenter. As a busy working professional I have very limited time to commit to all the intricacies involved in being a landlord. (The interviews, the applications, the possible repair calls, rent collection, inspections, etc) Keyrenter made the process of on-boarding simplistic and did an amazing job finding a great tenant. They even reimburse me for a Christmas decorations that were damaged. Negative experience: Moving from out of state and renting sight unseen from Keyrenter's was the worst mistake I could have made. When I arrived, the home was filthy. There was no move-out clean, cobwebs everywhere, and permanent stains on the floors that were never disclosed. The fireplace that was advertised as a feature was later confirmed by the gas company to be completely inoperable because the gas lines had been cut. I was not provided a single garage remote, the refrigerator was missing shelves, and the microwave did not even have a glass turntable plate. Five weeks into the move (January, mind you), the heat stopped working. I called their “emergency” maintenance line multiple times and was told it would only be considered an emergency if the temperature inside the home dropped below 60 degrees. Even after explaining that it would be 30 degrees overnight and that I have children in the home, I was told to simply “stay warm.” No one was sent out. I am unsure what standards this company operates under, or if their reviews are genuine, but this experience has been far below any reasonable level of professionalism, safety, or basic tenant care. I would strongly caution anyone considering renting through them.

You elected to rent the home sight unseen, which many out-of-state renters choose to do, and we make every effort to set clear expectations about what that means. We provide extensive photos, videos when requested, disclosures, and written documentation so residents understand the property condition prior to move-in. While we work hard to ensure homes are clean and ready, a sight-unseen lease naturally carries a different level of expectation compared to an in-person viewing.
Upon your move-in concerns, our team responded immediately and offered multiple solutions, including sending vendors, addressing items you identified, and making concessions to help you feel comfortable in the home. We have continued to reach out and remain willing to resolve every work order you’ve submitted. Unfortunately, several of our attempts to connect and coordinate repairs have gone unanswered.
Regarding the heating issue, we follow Virginia property code for determining emergency service thresholds, but even within those guidelines, we attempted to schedule service as quickly as possible and did not refuse assistance. We understand how stressful a situation like that can feel, especially with children, and we have been ready to dispatch a vendor as soon as access was arranged.
Our goal is always to provide safe, well-maintained homes and responsive service. We remain committed to resolving every outstanding concern and welcome communication so we can complete the repair process. We hope you will reach back out so we can bring this matter to a positive resolution.
Negative experience: Warning do not rent from Key Renters. They are slumlords. They won’t fix anything and continue to raise the rent. If you see that they’re the property managers run run as fast as you can cause you will get ripped off bad.

The roofing company did a great job, but they destroyed a lot of my Christmas decorations and left a lot of nails around the premises. Negative experience: Lived in 1905 devonwood common in chesapeake for 3+years keyrenters is the worst rental company i ever rented from! They inflated charges to put against our deposit return and also lied about having work done just to take more money from our deposit. They dont fix anything washer machine broke i replaced it and left it in the unit. I should have taken it with me! The hvac system had issues i paid over $600+ electric bill for 3 months no one ever tried to help when I reached out to them to tell them about the bills. Also when you leave they will send a list of approved companies and tell you dont clean the house that they will clean the house carpets and dryer vent. The company ragdollz cleaning is owned by a lady name martha and her son albert. They will tell you one price $325. And then come into a empty house and complain about cleaning and add extra charges and move extra slow! Before you know it she will say it was a 500+ cleaning and charge it to keyrenters who will take that from your security deposit! Dont waist your time or money with them! Keyrenters also They charge $200 for dryer vent cleaning $200 for carpet cleaning even after i just paid $200 for the carpet cleaning but because it wasnt from a company on their list specifically they tried to play in my face saying it needed to be redone. Sent an invoice for carpets a month later from the same morning i called and work wasn’t even done! But supposedly it needed to be done and taken out my deposit! They charged me 510 for gutter cleaning. Thats a homeowner responsibility! The lease will have a section where it states anything not listed here will be a tenant responsibility thats how they get around charging for stuff. Just beware they want money and thats it! And the 64$ benefits package is a joke they send one filter a month and the only way you get pest control is if you call and request but your being charged every month regardless. If you want to see less than half of your security deposit or none of it at all rent with them! Left the house soo good i paid $900 after getting the professional clean walls patched and carpets cleaned and we even helped with painting. Just to have $900+ taken from me.

Your signed lease agreement, which clearly outlines resident responsibilities for maintenance, cleaning, and property upkeep.
-Documented move-out conditions (including photos and inspection reports).
-Actual invoices from licensed vendors for necessary work to restore the property to move-in condition, as required by your lease.
Specifically:
-Maintenance & Utilities: Lease terms define resident vs. owner responsibilities. We address reported issues but cannot control utility usage or costs.
-Cleaning & Carpets: Our approved vendor list ensures standards are met. When non-approved vendors are used and standards aren't met, re-cleaning by our vendors is necessary, and the cost is a resident responsibility per the lease.
-Gutter Cleaning: This, along with other items like filter replacement (part of the Resident Benefit Package), is a resident responsibility as stipulated in the lease to maintain the property.
We understand that security deposit deductions can be frustrating. However, our consistent application of lease terms ensures fairness to all parties and safeguards our owners' assets.

Negative experience: I just wanna start by saying I was forced to give keyrenters a 5 star in order to get my money back. So now I am back, giving them the rating that I wanted to give them from the beginning. If I could give them no stars I would. They took over our property that I was already renting from another real estate agency. to sum it all up these people are crooks. They’ve charged us for things that were never explained. They tried to charge you for renters insurance in some package deal that you are forced to pay. I had my own insurance. They sent me an email letting me know that my lease was not going to be renewed the end of this past july2025. but I never seen the email until two weeks prior to having to be out of the house. I BELIEVE IT SHOULD BE SENT MY MAIL. I had to find a place, pack and be moved into My new place all within two weeks. Not to mention that I had spoken to them on the phone about other incidents and they never not one time mentioned anything about me having to move. very unprofessional! I am a family of 5 with 3 children. I’ve been waiting on my deposit only to find out that I’m only receiving $29.20 back out of the 1400 deposit . They charged me $125 for filling up the trash cans. that I put at the end of the road the day I left the house for the trash man to pick up. Keyrenters would mail me new filters monthly for the air filters which were kept up every month and changed out the day I locked up the house and left the keys. but still charge me $50! lol They charged me $125 for normal wear on the dryer filter. Crazy! Still other miscellaneous charges that I don’t understand. They never pick up the phone and when they do, they have people who answer the phone in their office that cannot help you or never understand how to resolve the issue and that they will get back with me but they NEVER would. And when I did hear from them, it was only to let me know that I still owed them for late fees for some package deal. Again I had my own renters insurance.they can not force me to buy their renters insurance. There’s no way this business will last long. There’s so much more issues with this company That I can write about but it’s not worth my time.

You signed our Keyrenter lease at renewal last year, which included the rental insurance and resident benefit program requirements you mention. These terms were explained and agreed to in writing.
Notices regarding your lease non‑renewal were sent in full compliance with Virginia law and your lease. Email is an acceptable delivery method, and tenants are responsible for checking their communications.
As required by state law, your security deposit was itemized and applied only to actual charges documented at move‑out. We do not charge for ordinary wear and tear, only for documented cleaning, damage, or lease obligations.
Unfortunately, during your tenancy you frequently paid rent late, and our staff was subjected to profanity and rudeness when attempting to address issues by phone. Our team strives to be courteous and professional — and we expect the same in return.

Negative experience: If a negative review was possible I'd do it. My husband hired them for a property he had prior to our marriage and we just terminated the contract because of how God awful they are at business. They cut the agreed upon rent without tell us, they were never available when we tried to talk to them, they tried to cut rent again and sign a new lease with the tenants when we told them not to, and they tried to tell us we couldn't sell the house for more than what we bought it for because a house across the street that was smaller and more worn sold for less. Unfortunately that's just a few of the many issues we've had with them. Highly advise going ANYWHERE else.

When we were hired to manage the property, we followed the request to list the rent at $2200 per month, despite the average rent in the neighborhood being around $1661.25. Unfortunately, after 97 days on the market, much longer than the typical 32-day timeframe for the area, it became clear that the rental price was not aligned with market expectations. We suggested adjusting the rent to help attract qualified tenants, which is standard practice in such situations, and we regret if this wasn't communicated clearly.
When your husband asked us to assist with selling the property, we noted that the most recent comparable sale in the neighborhood was for $251,000, and that property was in better condition than his. He requested a listing price of $290,000, which we felt was not aligned with current market values. As part of our commitment to providing clients with realistic and actionable advice, we believe it's essential to price properties appropriately to avoid prolonged market times and to secure the best possible outcome. Unfortunately, due to differing expectations regarding the property’s value, we decided to terminate the management contract.
We always aim to work closely with our clients and provide guidance based on our experience and market knowledge. We understand this situation was frustrating and wish you the best in finding the right path forward for your property.

Positive experience: So far Keyrenter of Hampton Rds has delivered on and done everything they said they would do. Things are running smoothing and I am very satisfied with the communication, tenants they found, and overall property management. **UPDATE** I decided to part ways with KeyRenter, over the years I felt like they were nickeling and diming me with extras for maintenance. Such as automatic yearly pressure washing at $300 and things like that with no approval from me. Not sure if they were making extra money off the maintenance but it just didn't sit right with me. Also they charged the tenants a $500 pet fee that I saw 0$ of as the owner and the one taking the risk allowing pets in my property.
