Negative experience: I purchased a commercial building that was listed by Commencement Bay Brokers. Since it was a commercial building and Commencement Bay Brokers generally does residential, the rest of the keys were in a residential lock box which my commercial broker couldn't get into. We closed on the building on a Tuesday. Commencement Bay Brokers promised to have the rest of the keys out and ready Wednesday. I made a special trip out there and nobody had showed to get this done. My agent asked them again, they said they would be out by the end of the week. I, again, made a special trip out there and, again, nobody showed. I called them Friday and left a message with the receptionist who said Nic was on the other line. The receptionist was very nice and apologetic and said she'd have someone call me ASAP to get this resolved. I didn't get a call back. I emailed every single email address on their website and finally got a response and 24 hours later I finally had my keys. I wouldn't hire them to sell a used hacky sack. Many broken promises and no follow-through. Not what I would want in an agent.

We live out of state and our real estate agent referred us to Nic since we wanted to sell our rental property. Nic worked around our schedules to do a video call. On this call the process was fully explained to us. His in depth knowledge of the area, the industry and talking straight with us made it easy to trust Nic and his team with selling our house. During the process of selling our house, his team answered our questions in a timely manner and always kept us in the loop with what was going on. Everyone wanted us to be able to sell our house and the process was seamless. Nic, Emily and Kelly were great to work with. At first we decided to try to sell our house with our tenants occupying it and Nic was straight forward with us and said it could be difficult but we would try. We had our house on the market for 6 weeks and we heeded their advice and took it off the market and would wait 6 months until the tenants were out of the house. Every week Nic still remained in contact with us which exceeded our expectations. He truly cared and wanted a successful outcome for us. Once our tenants were out, Nic did a thorough walk through of the house and noted what needed to be fixed. Nic and Emily quickly got their amazing contractors with fair prices to fix what needed to be done with the house so we could get it on the market, The work that was done on our house was quality work. We even utilized their contact to stage our house. Both contractors were easy to work with, got it done quickly and were easy to pay with us in VA. Nic would touch base weekly with us to let us know what was going on with the process which was really nice. We put our house on the market on a Thursday and had three offers on Monday and we accepted an offer on Tuesday. Nic priced our house just right. We had to replace the roof on our house as the inspection showed it had to be replaced. Commencement Bay Brokers contractor came through yet again and replaced the roof quickly with a quality roof so we could close within the month. Emily would send us weekly updates via email, our preference, which was great so we could go back and reference them to see where we were in the process. During the entire process, Commencement Bay Brokers made us feel as if we were their only client. I highly recommend Commencement Bay Brokers to anyone who is looking to buy or sell a house. Fantastic experience: My husband and had a very positive experience with Commencement Bay and our broker, Maddie Names. We started looking for homes before we were fully ready to purchase, and Maddie was super accommodating and understanding of our timeline. She listened to our requests and was patient while we figured out what we wanted in a house. When we were ready to start seeing homes she was responsive and efficient in setting up showings, and when we decided to put in an offer Maddie made sure that we knew what to expect during each step. All the way through closing we felt well informed and cared for. Since we are new to the area and don't have many connections yet, I also appreciated that Maddie (and the rest of the Commencement Bay team) provided referrals for contractors, insurance agents, lenders, etc. I never felt pressured to use the referrals, but we did end up using many of them and I'm very glad we did.
