We’ve rented from Apple realty for several years in the past and are hoping to do so again in our return to Durham. It’s a far better experience than renting from a landlord directly.

They both were very patient with us! We cannot recommend this group with Apple Realty more! Definitely worth more than 5 stars! Fantastic experience: I was pleased with the service we were provided--they made the process of preparing and listing our rental property very easy and were responsive to our many questions.

Negative experience: Apple Realty does not care if you don't have heat in the winter. Awful service for the tenant, and allowed reported leaks to continue and not get fixed in the house. Stay away if you're a tenant who wants heat / no leaks, or a landlord who want your property to be taken care of. Their "maintenance" department does not communicate at all with tenants or landlords and does the cheapest and worst job possible to patch any issue.

Fantastic experience: I have been renting with Apple Realty for about 1.5 years and I have had a good experience with each person I have worked with. They have been easy to work with and very responsive to maintenance needs. It would be to their advantage if they updated their property photos more often because I ruled out a few of their properties during my search based on the photos, but ended up choosing one of their properties after I toured because it was so much better than the photos!

Negative experience: Useless slum lords. Their communication (Shannon) is nonexistent unless they need something from you. It took 3 weeks to hear back about terminating my lease and then an additional week for each follow up question, yet they send my lease renewal 3 months before I have to provide notice and text me for the paperwork back ASAP every 24 hours. They falsely advertise properties with old photos but neglect to do any routine maintenance. This is the yard they advertised and the yard I have, despite lawn care AND landscape being included. The property manager Micah is incredibly uninformed. When asked about yard maintenance during my showing (because it’s clearly been neglected for years, yet paid for with tenant rent,) he said he had no clue the specifics just that it was included, and I only had 18 more hours to sign the lease. No follow up on finding out more information, but I should definitely reach out to him with questions. Zero accountability and incredibly predatory. Avoid at all costs.

Fantastic experience: I had the pleasure of working with Micah Winn at Apple Realty on a rental on Ninth St in Durham. In less than 1 week, even though we were out of state, we completed the virtual walkthrough, application process, background reviews, financial commitment, and the setting up of all utilities to allow us to move in on time. Despite some difficulties getting in contact with Apple Realty and figuring out how to do a virtual tour, it was great to get patched through to him through Sharon. He showed me all around the property with a prompt Google Meet link, shared helpful information and gave thorough responses. I'm feeling a lot more hopeful about potentially leasing through Apple Realty. P.S. If you do need to talk to Apple Realty, call during business hours! That was the only way I managed to get to talk to them.

Fantastic experience: Our experiance with Kyle Conard and Apple Realty was wonderful. We were looking on Zillow for a home to rent and found one we wanted to tour that was managed by Apple Realty. The agent, Kyle, was very responsive and accommodating. He took the time to explain the rental process and answer all of our questions. As the property was undergoing preparations for a new tenant, Kyle detailed the improvements in progress and addressed all the issues. As a bonus, Kyle was friendly and made the tour really fun!

Negative experience: Edit: I have changed my rating to one star for the following reason: I was assured by Kyle that there was no mold in the home. Yesterday, I picked up my keys, and, upon entering the home, was met with the suffocating smell of mold. Upon inspection, I found mold covering the floor of the laundry room and both bathrooms. I also found mold coming out of the sockets. I am requesting an immediate termination of the lease due to the home being uninhabitable. Original: I requested a same day virtual tour of a newly posted property, and Kyle was able to arrange a viewing early that afternoon. He was very thorough in showing me the home and able to answer all of my questions. I highly recommend Kyle - a true expert in the field!

They were always quick to send someone out for service calls, kept everything in good working order, and I was always able to pay online through the online portal. When I had to move out ahead of my lease expiration, they accommodated me as much as they possibly could. It was a very positive experience.

Fantastic experience: We know Mr. Griffin as he helped us to manage property over 10 years. He and members of Apple Realtor are very professional, always very quick to respond to renter and owner’s request. For example, several years ago, on Christmas Eve, there was an emergency with the sprinkler system. Mr. Griffin spent his Christmas Eve taking care of the needs of renters. Because of his professional responsibility, when we purchase a second rental unit, we asked Mr. Griffin to manage it. He did very good job to prepare the unit for rent, and very soon it was rented.

Really great people to work with, and have been so communicative as my partner and I have been looking at places through Apple Realty. Micah not only was there for the viewing, but stayed in close communication and even did a same day viewing for a second property that was kept in mind. His email communcation was prompt and kept us abreast of any new information. Along with being helpful, he was very honest, and this helped us as first timers learn how to pivot when needed and keep on and not loose traction with moving forward. Things go so quickly! Very different from looking at apartments where there's multiple units constantly available. Shannon! We have spoken over the phone, and through email, she has kept me close to the proceedings as much as possible. I'm sure they both felt our stress -but kept things even tempered for us all! I can't remember, but when everything started i went into the office and spoke to 2 women, I do not know if one of them was Shannon, but either way, both were SO kind and kept honest while telling me exactly what i needed. Really great group of people. Appreciate them endlessly. I am saying this all while we have not yet recieved approval, because either way does not change the absolutely great assistance we got!

Negative experience: Apple realty was terrible for me. Lack of communication and absolutely do not care about the tenant. Got the impression they are more concerned about their interests than anything. Not to mention their knowledge of properties and rental expectations are not at all something they are transparent about. Terrible experience from start to finish. Edit in reply to Apple Realty: 10/10/24 My only mistake was not looking at the Yelp Review 2.3 rating and the Reddit forums in regards to Apple Realty which has several other similar reviews as mine. The only contact I could make was with Rachel who couldn’t answer any questions in regards to the property itself. Phillip who is the actual manager of this property refused to call or email. Stephen who gave us a tour of the house couldn’t answer questions about the actual property and told us he had to ask Phillip. We waited a week and nothing, no answers..and they should have been simple answers for example does trash get picked up or do we need to take it, Stephen said the company would refill the propane take…was that true?? The fire place was it opened or closed??? All questions that take 30 secs to answer and we couldn’t get the time of day from neither Phillip or Stephen. So the response I get to my review from you all is not true.
