There was little empathy from the workers who are the true driving force of Playa Blanca and tourism in the Canary Islands. In addition to serious mistakes, for example wanting to charge me about €300 for a water bill, which turned out to be much lower. Real estate agents like Sara seem not to realize what it means for a worker to have to pay rents that are half or more of their salary. For these agents, offering a long-term rental is already something to be grateful for. They join the wheel of buying and selling with which owners speculate and profit from vacation rentals. That is their true business. Profit from housing. This type of business is detrimental to residents and workers who cannot find a fair and decent rental price.
